She has dementia and we came back to pick her up shaking, covered in urine from illegally being tortured by this doctor. He claimed that as an older person "she couldn't have too much anesthetic" so he pulled out her teeth and SHE FELT EVERYTHING. We would have never agreed to this and she had dementia and couldn't stand up for herself. He completely abused the situation and took advantage of us. Apparently he wouldn't even stop when she asked and wouldn't let her go to the bathroom. She lost control of her bowels three times during this torture. I can only imagine how many elders and and other vulnerable populations he is torturing. Our family is devastated by what she went through. They take many forms of insurance and any out-of-pocket expenses have been low and fair. We never feel that they pressure us to perform work that isn't required. The waiting area isn't large and neither is the office. A short walk from the subway or bus. Parking can be difficult. The only thing preventing them from 5 stars is the back office staff: they're not good at follow-up. I frequently have to chase them for preventive procedures as they need insurance authorization. Sometimes they overbook or allow walk-ins delaying our appointments. All in all, the best dentist we've had for many years, and highly recommend this practice. Much love to Dr. Weiss.

For some reason, they sent it by mail (unlike electronically, like everyone else) and insisted it would take 3 weeks to hear back. After a week and a half, my insurance told me that if they just sent it electronically and labeled it as "emergency", I'd hear back after 48 hours. I communicated this to the front desk, but they sounded annoyed, and wouldn't lift a finger to help, and insisted I had to keep waiting. They refused to submit the pre-auth electronically or call insurance to speed up the process (even though insurance recommended this, and earlier, the receptionist herself said she would call.) So, I went to a new dentist, who immediately filed an electronic pre-authorization, and heard back within a few days. The new dentist requested the full set of xrays, which Avant Garde Dental promised to send, twice -- but didn't actually send! This delayed the process by another week, until I called myself. It's now been a month of phone calls to insurance and multiple offices -- while dealing with a tooth in bad shape! Had I gone to another dentist, I would've had an approval within a week. I think the front desk needs to remember that people who call them are having a very bad time, and telling someone with tooth pain to "just wait 3 weeks" is brutal, especially when they can help. The office is modern and nice, and the dentist who saw me was fine. But they wasted a month of my time with tooth pain. Beware.

Well, I finally decided to make a dentist appointment after 5 years of not going. I was looking for a new dentist where I live since my old dentist is located in my hometown and no longer convenient. I found this place on Groupon, and since I don't have dental insurance decided to make an appointment because it was a great deal. I scheduled my appointment with Dr. Levite about 2 months in advance, but was actually seen by Dr. Kedem. {this was of no problem to me} My x rays, cleaning, and exam were completed in 45 minutes and found everyone there to be welcoming and kind. I will say during the cleaning a bit of water splattered all over my face which I've never had before but it was painless and very thorough. I did not feel like I was treated any less because I came with a Groupon. They didn't even try to push any upgrades on me which was a pleasant surprise because I came in expecting that as a Groupon user. My visit resulted in 0 cavities so I left feeling very happy. Elizabeth in the front is exceptionally kind and made me feel at ease as soon as I walked in. I will no longer put off going to the dentist once every 5 years and will be returning in 6 months!
