A Hobart classic that has been in a bit of a down phase the last few years. The interior is dated (so, so dated) and filled to the brim with dark wood. The music selection is cringeworthy and very loud- I heard some true WTF tunes when I was in. Basically songs you'd hear listening to AM radio as you drive through the outback.
Wait you might be saying - How come I rated it 5 stars when I've commented about the old dingy decor and the awful music? The food is good. So, so good - That's why.
The menu has usual pub grub, Parmis and the like but the food is made with love (as corny as that sounds). It's the perfect blend of "home style" food and pub food. The salads are true meal sized, not a few scraps of lettuce with some old veggies on top. My chicken salad was warm with a tangy vinaigrette, and the side of veggies was a big BOWL of steamed veggies. Girlfriend had a steak that was thick, juicy and the sauce nice and peppery. Only criticism is for a pub called the "Ocean Child", the amount of seafood on the menu is quite small! read more
