I am giving this a 3 because the server was so nice and the place is so eclectic. The food was sooo underwhelming. The steak was as thin as a sandwich steak, it was just flat. The side salad consisted of greens with a celery stalk and carrot stick. I was hoping to go nextdoor to the Virginian, but they were not open. Walking into this place is like entering an episode of Gunsmoke. You could spend hours looking at the history on the wall , but you should focus on the comfort food inside. Service is super pleasant and helpful. The ambience was so good that we ended up talking at length with people at our table. read more

We ate at the Occidental Saloon Thursday night while at Longmire days. I had the Bison burger it was as expected a little flat due to not fat in the meat and not seasoning. The fries were pretty good. My wife had the mushroom burger with Swiss cheese and she loved it. We also had a drink. Gin and Tonic rather light poor on the first one and heavy on the second. I had a Pendleton on the rocks with coke and it was also light poor. Service was fair by the gentlemen but the lady was gracious and very nice. The ambiance was that of a 1880 bar with animal heads on the walls and a variety of people. read more

My family of 7 stopped here this afternoon for lunch on our way to Yellowstone. We were informed that ordering tap water was a $1 charge and since we were driving none of us were going to order alcohol. I ordered a side salad, which came out and couldn't have been more than a couple of lettuce leafs and 2 tiny carrots for $5. We also ordered a veggie tray and the veggies platter and what came out was so tiny and miserable. One in our party had the BBQ chicken flat bread and the chicken was so dry...it was like eating cardboard. I'd avoid this place at all cost. We love the Occidental Saloon. It's a favorite stop for a bison burger or beef tip and noodles. There's plenty of history to occupy the conversation as you wait for your food to arrive -- which can be a while if you are in during the diner hour. ;-) Love the live music nights. I ordered the rib-eye and my husband has the bison burger and they were both delicious at a very reasonable price. They were pretty busy for a Tuesday night but we were waited on quickly and they were friendly. This place has been there since 1880 and they had lots of cool old photos on the wall from 1880 and on. It had a great old feel. They had people there singing that were ok to listen to but I wouldn't go there specifically to hear them. read more

This is a very cute family owned & operated business. Located in the heart of downtown Buffalo, you can find this old cowboy Saloon inside the hotel. There is SO much history in this building. Many pictures, memorabilia, etc dating back to 1900s! Live music every night and a big band on Thursdays. Menu & drinks are reasonably priced for this establishment. The Bison Burger, Beef tips, Longmire sandwich are to die for!! **Let it be known they do things super old school here, theres no tech-y credit card machines table-side. And it does get very busy in there, they all work together so you can really ask whomever for help or for the bill. The family employees write things down by hand on a ticket and man do they WORK! Came in on Fourth of July with my husband who is a professional bluegrass musician from Nashville. We are traveling to Washington for him to play gigs. Was soooo excited it happened to be open mic night and it seemed like a fun opportunity to make a room full of people happy in a new and cute western town. The owner and head musician refused to make time for him during their open mic, even though there was clearly time and space to be had. Made comment that hippies play on Thursday, straight profiling as if my husband wasn't an accomplished and talented picker/singer because of his wife's sweatshirt. Pretty disappointed we spent our hardworking money somewhere that puts ego and judgement in front of beautiful chance moments with magical musicians and customers. read more

The service here was great and it would be a fine local spot for some spirits but we came in for a meal. Food was lackluster. Great atmosphere and nice staff but onion rings were mushy on the inside. Burger was spartan and side salad was a small handful of greens likely from a bag served on a very small plate. That's it. But really a cool traditional saloon from the old west with a wooden bar and tin ceiling tiles. They do have Musiic and could be fun for a few drinks and music too. read more

Love this place. Food excellent and reasonable. Vanessa, Shana, and Kelly will take great care of you. They often have live music, never know who might be playing. They do concerts several times a years. Big name bluegrass bands, tickets are only 10-15$. Only sell 100 seats. Fun time! read more

This place was sold as a hospitality hot spot. They go on ad nauseum about how great they are at welcoming guests. We did not receive that sort of service. As hotel guests we were repeatedly passed over for regulars, making our wait to order over an hour long. The juvenile bartender was the brightest spot, even though she had never made several cocktails before-if you want a standard bourbon drink, go elsewhere. So far the quaintness does not outweigh ignoring of customers. There are closer hotels to stay at unless dead animals on the wall are your thing. read more

We wanted to get a hot breakfast before we got on the road, the Occidental Saloon looked like the only place in town. It is the same kitchen as the Busy Bee Cafe down the street. I ordered the omelet and it was solid. The hash browns were a bit overfried so a little hard. The biscuit was great. My friend got the blueberry pancakes and said they were decent. My omelet was about $10. The service wasn't great. The bartender was very pleasant, but she wasn't our server. I wish our bartender was our server because she was really nice! read more

Where do I even begin? I worked at a ranch this summer and didn't have much free time but I made sure to be here on Thursdays. I was naturally a shy person to begin with but this place made me open up so much. I would've have NEVER danced with a stranger, let alone in front of 50+ people. At the end of the night we all would get together, hold hands and sing the last song. My favorite dancing partner started it all. I came back to visit and word got out that I'll dance with all the old men. Between the incredible staff, food, music and the pure history of the place... You'll never want to leave! It's not accidental that I stop by Occidental Saloon. It was but by good fortune that I made the choice to stop in and enjoy the atmosphere and great bluegrass music. Good food good entertainment and good people. The bluegrass band consisted of four gentleman whom we immensely enjoyed and felt as if we step back in time. But let me get to the food, It was excellent I enjoyed a buffalo steak well my other half enjoyed a ribeye. If I was to suggest for you to stop by this location to enjoy everything I enjoyed. Stopped in for a bite. The Angus Burger was large and delicious. The fries so-so, the Turkey was good but lacked the advertised bacon. Seems that they were out of bacon until 3:00. Would have been good to let us know so we could pick an alternate. Really unique place. read more

The second visit was not so great, the older woman behind the bar covered in tattoos who dressed like teenage girl was surly and ruined what we were hoping would be a nice second visit. We stopped in on a Friday afternoon, not very busy. Took over a half hour to have anyone take our order or get a drink. Ordered two cheeseburgers and fries. It honestly took an HOUR to get our food and people around us who had come in later had eaten and left. The burgers were so undercooked that we had to take them back to the hotel and cook them in the microwave. So we paid about $50 bucks for one beer, two sodas, two orders of about 15 fries each and raw hamburgers. The waiter ignored us the entire time we were there. Did not even offer condiments. When we got our check, I told him (older guy, possibly owner?) how disappointed we were and he agreed and stated "yeah, I saw everyone else getting their food before you." He didn't even offer to cook the raw meat, just sent us off with a 'to go' box. I would not recommend eating here at all. We'll never go back. read more

Went in tonight for supper and when we arrived it wasn't very busy. Ordered a beer and a Pepsi. No one came by to offer another drink for over an hour and I had to finally ask. The people around us who came in after us were getting their food. Finally after over an hour we got our food. Two hamburgers and fries. My husband's was rarer than he likes, mine was darned near raw. I picked it up and the blood ran out. I ate the fries and asked for a box to take the hamburger back to the hotel room to microwave it. Told the waiter and he agreed that it took too long and that he knew people coming in after us were getting their food first. We paid $36 for two Pepsis, one beer, two orders of about 20 fries and two undercooked hamburgers, one completely raw!! I wish we had gone to McDonald's. read more

We drove around looking for a place to get a drink and dinner. The Occidental had several cars so we came in to check. We sat at the cool old bar and decided to eat here. Great bar tender! I'm not usually one to write Yelp reviews, but I don't want others to make the same mistake we did by eating here. The food was adequate at best, especially for the high prices. The real problem was the awful, non-existant service, though. We were never checked on again after putting in our original order and more than once had to walk to the bar for things like drink refills and extra condiments. After we were finished eating, we expected to get the bill but of course no one ever came by and we ended up going to the bar to pay. What happened next was unbelievable. The bartender refused to let us look at an itemized receipt of our order even though we were suspicious of the $75 bill for three burgers and two drinks, one drink being a domestic beer. Ended up paying the bill to avoid making a scene, but I am very annoyed. Cool historic building (although very dingy and dirty - bug trap FULL of flies right next to our table in the window), but not worth sitting down for a meal. Stop in for some pictures and then move on elsewhere - maybe somewhere in Sheridan? read more

My wife and I had the burger and it was awesome. Might have been a combination of being very hungry and having been on the road all day, but we were both impressed with the beef and flavor of the simple burger. Local beer on draft is cold, wet, and tasty. The setting is exactly what you should hope for in a town like this. A lot of character and history in photo's on the wall. I hear the bluegrass jam is awesome, but we were not there on a music night. Staff was very friendly, but miscounted our change at the end of the night. No worries, it was a simple fix. Old bullet holes in places give this place some western ambiance. You better hide it if you are a liberal here... the staff was hammering Hillary pretty hard, much to the dismay of my partner. I didn't care one way or the other. I jsut wanted some beer. So I had two while I waited about 40 minutes for a burger (they were busy due to a couple of events in town).
