I came here for my very first all-inclusive vacation hotel stay and it really was a lovely resort. Service was great, our room was upgraded for our original stay and we really loved the food quality at the buffet and at all the specialty restaurants. The evening entertainment was well-choreographed and very entertaining -- even the shows for children that we saw were lovely! I was quite happy with the service level and the activities (especially water aerobics and BINGO) were good too. I appreciated the fact that you didn't have to walk far to get from rooms to restaurants or from the pool to the beach. The resort had enough great features to keep us busy yet relaxed on vacation. When we unexpectedly had to extend our hotel stay due to a situation in the country making travel home temporarily impossible, the resort honoured the price that we paid through our travel agent initially. We had to go back to a regular room (and I definitely found the upgraded room better) but the resort still did their best to take care of us despite the fact that the situation meant that they were running into staffing issues. We still had great food and drinks, the pool and the beach to enjoy while awaiting our safe return home. I would wholeheartedly recommend staying here in the future. And I would certainly entertain the idea of going on another all-inclusive vacation like this one, or staying at another resort by this brand. read more

It was a really great stay. The only thing I wish food wise was that there was a little more variation in the buffet from day to day, but it was cool that the snack location was pretty much open all the time. The activity people were very fun and they had great events from kids events with paw patrol and sonic to mariachi. The bar tenders are wonderful, especially Francisco at the main bar by the lobby. Night time gets a little bit loud with parties beginning around 10 pm and lasting long into the night... and you need to be ready for beach peddlers to truly insist on selling you stuff, but we found quiet shade down in front of the snack place and it was calm in the corner for the most part. One other frustrating part is the concierge was completely unhelpful. You have to book the restaurants in advance, but not too in advance. One night she put us down that we had 2 coming to eat when there was 5 of us. The other night she said she would put us on the patio and the men didn't have to wear pants that way, but we got there and they had a table for us inside - then forced the men to go all the way back to the room to change. No good story starts with "I found a used condom next to my VIP area beach chair, & when I called a staff member, he kicked dirt over it until someone cleaned it 30 min later. You read that right folks. Staff memeber kicked dirt on it until someone came and cleaned it; 30 minutes later. When I tell you I gagged and had to take nausea meds I am not exaggerating. I have ZERO coping skills in situations like this. After I complained to the Gm, ABEL, he said "well Its a different story if it was in your room" and "its a public area". Umm, no its not. Its a ROPED OFF VIP "ROYALE" area for customers paying extra so we don't experience sht like this. Cool story bro yeah it would have been a different sitatuion if I found a condom in my room because I would have grabbed my luggage and high tailed it out of this hell hole if anything like this was in my room and likely paid someone to take it and hang it on the Mangements door to see how he feels? My bad- didnt listen to yelp instead read TRIP ADVISOR that called it 4 star LMAO No air con for HOURS No water- NONE for almost 2 hours yesterday and when it turned on, it was brown. Security latch on my door broke off. NOBODY answers the concierge phone. Management is RUDE NO BALCONY in my room. I feel as though Im stuck in a dirty aquarium. CON**** there is a pharmacy across the road to get pills and pretend this is just a 3 day nightmare. You better believe AMEX is going to hear about this and trip advisor. Ive been coming to PV for over 16 years and NEVER had a bad experience until this trip because certain friends of mine kept saying "at least try something new". Nope; Im done. Im sticking to the 4 awesome resorts I normally stay at. You may ask "why didnt you leave and stay at another hotel?" Its storm season so the evenings are extreme weather and lighting- I just sucked it up since it was just 3 nights. We stayed here 10/18-10/22/2025. The resort was nice and clean. But there is NO AC in the hotel other than the rooms and the buffet area. I want to emphasize on the NO AC in the lobby, the bar area or even one of the specialty restaurants. The ac in our room did not work, the room was so humid! We told the front desk about it and they sent someone to fix it but it was not. We went back to the front desk the next day to let them know there was no improvement, again they said they would send some to check it BUT they didn't come until the next day. Day 3 of not being able to sleep comfortably because of the humidity in the room. We went back to the front desk and they did offer us another room but it would be a downgrade and we would not get a refund for the difference. Since we booked through Costco we gave them a call and they did say if we decided to take the downgrade they would reimburse us. Within minutes of getting off the phone with Costco the front desk called us to see if there was any improvement with the humidity mind you they never checked with any other time we had complained. They offered us an upgrade free of charge and although we only had 2 more nights with them we decided to take it even though it was a HUGE inconvenience for us. The room was so humid we couldn't sleep so we said why not? Well the upgraded room was slightly better but the humidity returned that night. Our father's room had no issues with humidity or cooling. The food was edible in my opinion, it wasn't horrible but it wasn't great. You couldn't take any food to your room which we did not like because they didn't offer a late snack area like most of the resorts we have stayed at. If you like an open space resort where you feel all the humidity then sure check this place out. I would never stay here again unless they did some upgrades to the resort like have an enclosed lobby to have a drink or relax with the family. read more

Food quality: low to mid grade Food choices: no to few choices, very repetitive Food service staff: hit and miss, a couple of people very pleasant, friendly and hospitable. The rest seemed less so. Facility: newish and nice facade. Ceiling fan wouldn't work, shower was overflowing, shower door leaked water all over the bathroom, the steam iron didn't work. Beach location: the one great thing about this place. Swimming pool: only one and was very crowded for the number of people the hotel is designed for. I wouldn't do this place EVER again. Highly recommend avoiding this place like the original strain of CV19 that was killing people. Don't do it! Save your money! Go to ANYWHERE else! I had a great stay at the Occidental in Nuevo Vallarta! Seeing other reviews here, I'm not sure if they really cleaned up their act or if only the people with mostly bad experiences reviewed this place. I was skeptical after seeing their Yelp page, but truly I was extremely pleasantly surprised. CLEANLINESS: Spotless. Everywhere. They were even cleaning the cement walkways by the pools. No problem here, I always felt very clean all over the resort. Housekeeping would even reorganize our bathroom everyday in a more minimalistic and organized way. So nice! FOOD: DELICIOUS! My mom and I were seriously blown away. Was absolutely everything a hit? No, but I'd say 95% of all the different daily food options were delicious as hell. They had rotating breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, plus refreshing juices. The buffet was even better than the restaurants they have on-site in my opinion. They have great drinks here too and yes, they are constantly pouring that liquor all day every day. Vacation, right? ;) SERVICE: Don't have a bad thing to say. Yes, some staff don't speak English but like - you're in a different country lol. I think that's expected! The front-of-house staff like bartenders, servers, front desk, etc., all spoke English. Not only that, but the staff here truly goes above and beyond. I have seen multiple examples of the staff caring deeply about any issue that occurs here, no matter how minor. Special shoutout to Carlos and Julio for being the best bartenders and servers! The have pool beds all over the pool then some by the beach as well. It's louder / more of a fun vibe at the pool with entertainment, periodic pool games, and drinks, then the beach area is a little bit away with more peace and quiet. I would alternate between the two areas. The only cons of the trip: - The pool bed takerers are real. People go out to the pool at 7:30/8am and mark their spot with their towels already so their bed is reserved for the day. Finding seating (especially 2 or more together for your full party) is scarce later in the day. Our first full day we got to the pool around 12:30pm and we only found 1 spot by the kiddie pool after 10 minutes of walking around and searching. I recommend getting to the pool early because of this. - You need to make a reservation for the other dinner places (besides the buffet obviously) early in the morning with the concierge. Otherwise they get snatched up SUPER quick. But to be honest, the buffet was better than the restaurants anyway. - They offer no transportation from the airport to this resort. They help get you a taxi back to the airport after your trip is done, but nothing to help accommodate you getting there. Upon site, we got a free upgrade for no reason. We weren't in the First Club (their ultimate premier club) but did get some sort of upgrade when we checked in. We were initially given a room which had a side door ( to the next room) broken at the bottom. The bathroom was dirty with black spots in the shower and on the shower door. We were given another room and the hot water for the shower did not work. The bathroom sink faucet was loose. There were water stains on the tables. Also the Mexican and Italian restaurants were mediocre. The drinks were watered down. They even called us after we returned to the U.S. and stated that they would get back to us within a week, It has now been three weeks. We will never return. read more

First, I've been to Mexico four times before, but this was my first time in Puerto Vallarta. Transportation was smooth. We checked in, but they gave us a room with two beds, despite us being a couple of 11 years. We didn't mind it too much, but the room smelled strongly of fresh paint. We complained, and they took care of it quickly, which was a positive. On the first day, we had the buffet, and it was good. However, the second day we made a reservation at the Mexican restaurant. I ordered the queso fundido with chorizo, and it was the worst I've ever had! The cheese had a plastic-like consistency, as if it was microwaved. My fiancé ordered mixed meats.He always finishes his food, but not this time, which says a lot. We complained, and the waiter explained that some equipment in the kitchen had broken, preventing proper heating. That explains why the food was cold, but why not post a sign saying, "Kitchen closed for dinner due to technical difficulties"? Instead, we wasted our time and had a terrible dining experience. We also attended the "presentation," which we're obligated to do for 90 minutes. They were clear and respected our decision, which was a relief, but I don't understand why the resort would put guests like us, an engaged couple, into a room with two beds and no ventilation for an entire week if the goal is to upsell them on a more luxurious property. Why not place us in the beautiful property to begin with, so we can experience what we could have for future vacations? It seems like a poor sales pitch to me. Moving forward, there were barely any activities during the day. There was no music at the pool. This is the first time I've been to a resort without music by the pool after 1 p.m. Vacation is supposed to be fun! One other thing: we went to the hot tub, and five minutes later, we were kicked out in front of everyone because it was for "special members." There was no sign indicating this, and while we wouldn't have minded, it was embarrassing. They could have told us in private. The service at the buffet was also poor. Everyone else was offered coffee, but we weren't. The ladies with purses were given purse stands, but I wasn't. There was a day when all the waiters were serving water to everyone but us. I told my fiancé I felt discriminated against because we aren't white. We paid for this vacation just like everyone else, but we were consistently overlooked. The only restaurant where the food was amazing was the Japanese restaurant, and the service there was fantastic. I'm shocked by how many people think the food is incredible. Perhaps it's because many Americans come to Mexico and the resorts try to cater to them? It's unfortunate. If you want the same food you get at home, just stay home. We even told one of the waiters, "This isn't Mexican chorizo," and he replied, "No, this is American sausage." Are you serious? The nightlife was lackluster. The only options were to attend a show or go to the lobby for drinks. There was no karaoke, no dancing, and if you're going to have a show, at least make sure it's coordinated. The dancers seemed to be performing to different songs, and the main singer wasn't good. The sound quality was muffled, and it was especially noticeable since the Hard Rock Café was next door. Their show was happening at the same time, and we could hear huge cheers and applause while ours had nothing but silence. The shows were terrible, to say the least. One day, we decided to play our own music at the pool because we were tired of the silence. An employee told us to turn it off, and another guest mentioned they were told the same thing. The whole experience was boring and easily the worst of my five trips to Mexico. The only good thing about the resort was the service from Renee, Jesus, Gustavo and Francisco and the ladies serving at the lounge. I will never return to Occidental again. They need to learn to treat everyone equally because they definitely didn't during our stay. read more

Pros: -Friendly Batenders -Friendly pool staff -Great Pools -Great Beach -Beautiful Views -Nice room and shower -Cool mall right across the street. -Massages on the beach (not associated with the hotel but amazing and priced great) -Although a dated resort, very pretty and well kept up. -Amazing coffee machine with various options was my wife's favorite -Olivos was great Italian restaurant and the service and attention to my wife's birthday was like nothing else on the resort. - the Cirque nighttime show - my wife loved the beet and pineapple salad. - the bracelet room keys were very convenient and made it easy to leave the room without wooryiing if you had a room key or room card to enter.  Cons: -Other than the staff mentioned in the pros list all other staff were rude and unfriendly. -Lost electricity for 3 hours -Someone stole one of my favorite outfits from our hotel room closet. When I filed a report security searched through all of our things indicating I was lying and wanted to see if they could find my outfit. When I asked for a report to file a claim with my travel insurance they declined me a report. -Food was awful EVERYWHERE on resort (other than the Italian restaurant) -I was promised a cake delivery to our room for my wife's birthday and it never came.  When I asked about it the Royal Representative blew it off and said if he can find the cake he will have it delivered..Never delivered no explanation. read more

The Hotel was ok, definitely not worth the "all inclusive " price. First, they try to up-sale you to Royal status to use the private pool, get additional dinner reservations, etc. Second, every time we tried to do a dinner reservation, they were completely booked and could not accommodate us, our friends went and they're was an excess of 9 tables completely open during their dinner time! Lastly, there was a leak and mold in our room, you could smell it! When we reported it, they told us it was "condensation" and would not move us rooms. I was very disappointed as this was my big birthday trip and they would not make things right. Would not recommend this to anyone. read more

The stay at the Occidental Nuevo Vallarta was disappointing in two areas-Check-in/front desk and the cleaning services of the rooms. I had booked two rooms at this resort and only one room was cleaned. I had to constantly call and request the service which was never done promptly. I am one that loves to tip accordingly to the customer services provided- in the cleanliness of the room and the lack of it being overlooked- I will not be returning nor was a tip given. However, the positives should be acknowledge- the employees at the buffet and the bars were outstanding. They did go above and beyond in providing drinks, asking if we needed anything else. The nightly entertainment also was outstanding. I really wish the front desk and cleaning department could get their act together. read more

In a nutshell don't go here. This resort is old and outdated. For starters the food isn't good, for an all inclusive I don't expect the best but I at least expect it to be worth it. The food lacks flavor and is never served hot, I couldn't even get a hot cup of coffee the whole trip. They have three specialty restaurants that you must wake up at 9 AM and stand on a long line in order to make a reservation for that night. It's vacation who wants to wake up early and do this every day only to be met with lackluster food. The one restaurant that was pretty good was their Italian restaurant surprisingly, at least that food was served hot. The pool is good but would be better if most of the kids actually stayed in the kiddy pool instead of flooding the main pool with large floaties. It sucks that you can't have snacks/ light eats brought to you by the pool or by the beach which is what I am used to at a resort vacation. The drinks are not that great except for the one bar near the lobby they were the best. The room smelled musty and moldy I found evidence of the previous persons shavings along the bathroom and there was other hair all throughout our room that was obviously not our hair so I seriously doubt the cleanliness of this place. The bed itself also smelled horrible which I believe was coming from the blankets. No matter how low we turned the AC it would not get cool in the room it's like they have a block on the temperature. Twice there were roach type bugs. The one good thing they had was that the wristband they give you it's also your room key that was a great help when it comes to carrying things around. As a resort that caters to people from all over the staff definitely needs to brush up on English. Thankfully I know some Spanish but it was really surprised that most didn't know basic things in English related to their job and my friend who speaks only English had to rely on me to communicate with the employees. Also when catering to people who are not from Mexico it would be good for the DJ to mix it up a bit and at least play a couple of English songs throughout the day. All in all this location is good if you are local and it's simply a couple of hours road trip away. For those who traveled hours by plane you will be highly disappointed stay somewhere else. read more

Rooms were super basic. Not bad, not good. Beds were very comfortable! A/C worked great. Mini bar restocked daily. Very limited beer options (corona, modelo, negro modelo) but mixed drinks were good and strong. The buffet was terrible. Italian restaurant was better but not great. The vibe is super sleepy. Very low energy for the most part, which is good if you are just wanting to lay by the pool and do nothing else. We got bored of that pretty quickly and took a uber to downtown PV one night. It was a 45 minute ride. The area where the resort is doesn't have much happening around it but did feel very safe. There's a grocery story across the street and very handy. Overall, if you are looking for an all inclusive with mediocre food and not a lot to do outside of resort, this could be your place, but if you're a foodie and like to experience some nightlife look for another area in PV instead of Nuevo Vallarta. read more

I was very disappointed with the hotel room. The bathroom faucet was broken, the freezer had only 3 legs so everyone I open the refrigerator door everything slide down the door made a bad creaking sound and also the shower water didn't turn off while there was no cold water coming out Besides the buffet was the worst I have ever been and the only restaurant that was decent was the Japanese restaurant called Tokyo which was impossible to get reservations. I guess for the money it was decent but I would not come back to this resort. Also the room was locked exactly at noon for the checkout and had to go downstairs to get our bags from the room and was not able to use any of the facilities after the checkout. read more

Stayed here with my friends for a week and were overall pleased with our stay. The highlights were the beach, food, and cleanliness of the resort. The beach was quiet compared to an otherwise noisy pool area. The food was fantastic; we especially loved the italian restaurant and the hibachi restaurant. Also, Estaban (bartender at the pool) went above and beyond all week with great service, humor, and Spanish lessons. However, there were two things that greatly affected the quality of our stay. First, they offer COVID testing 72 hours before returning to the US. However, when we saw the doctor for our tests, he told us they were "out". Luckily, my friends and I were able to go to the hospital across the street and get tested on our own, otherwise, we would have been out of luck. **If I were to do it again, I would not even waste time dealing with the hotel and would just walk to the hospital. $32 dollars apiece and results come in 3 hours.** The second aspect of the stay that was frustrating was that I was overcharged for the stay--they charged full price upon arrival when I had already paid half online. It took them days to recognize this error, an hour of my stay at the front desk explaining their error to them before being told the refund system was currently "broken", and was not offered any compensation for the inconvenience. I have still not received my refund of hundreds of dollars from the hotel. (Update: I did receive my refund) The value of the stay for the price was fantastic and my friends and I greatly enjoyed it, but their organization and front desk service is what ended up taking away from an otherwise smooth stay. read more

Let's just say, you get what you pay for. We did not pay for this resort, it was part of a promotion, with that said, reading all reviews and looking it up online it all looked good. Our room was small but fine, considering we rarely spend much time in our room on vacation. We had a small peekaboo ocean and pool view. The room smelled like pinesol. The resort is "all inclusive " the mini bar had four beers, sodas and waters. The bathroom had one sink, a decent shower that leaked onto the floor and room to turn around. The shower had great water pressure and immediate hot water. The bed was very, very uncomfortable. I woke up with a sore body every single day. Day one the AC was not working. I called the front desk and they obviously flipped some switch and the AC began working. The pictures make it look like there are 3 pools. Don't be fooled. There is one main pool, a kiddie wading pool and a pool for their "Royal" club members. They have 3 restaurants and a buffet. Only one restaurant and the buffet were open each night. You had to have reservations for the restaurant or no entry and could only make a reservation the day of dining. Food was mediocre at best. Staff was nice and attentive. The beach was soft and easily walkable. Beautiful sunsets. We went here based on a promotion and did not have high expectations. Not a place I would recommend or return to. read more

They really need to train their employees on what is good customer service. Their food was not good. Their chef was not familiar in cooking Italian food you have to wait at least 1.5 hours to get your food. Same thing goes for their other restaurant called Tokyo. Their check in and check out is so bad. During check out I was waiting in line for about 20 minutes then the front desk employee says that the line I'm in is not for check out and she was expecting h me to stand in line again there are not signs as to where check out is. The resort is unsafe. Windows' locks are broken, and several public bathroom locks were also broken. Staying on one of top floors with a 7 year old with a broken lock on the reachable window, would made it difficult to enjoy yourself in the room. The food including VIP restaurant were just awful. The Mexican restaurant had a great view and that is all the good things I can say about it. The Italian's food was very low quality and the meat was fatty and utterly disgusting. The Asian restaurant was at least fun with table side cooking. But honor for the worse food goes to the buffet. Unfortunitly, we had no choice but to eat there several times. Honestly, we had a difficult time finding anything eatable that wasn't bland or even look delicious. The two stars are really for most of the servers and room cleaners. Stayed here for a short time (check in Tuesday- check out Thursday) but overall enjoyed my stay. I booked through Costco travel and like someone else mentioned, did not receive the royal package, they said it would be an additional $72. Anyways, Room- stayed on the 5th floor. Had a partial view of the water but mostly of the kiddie play area. Double beds, decent comfort. Nice shower that is stocked with shower gel and shampoo. Safe located in the closet and was easy to use. Outlets by the bed that you can plug your USB cord into. Mini Fridge (in room)- stocked with beer, orange juice boxes, Pepsi, Sprite and peanuts. They are supposed to come and restock it daily, but unfortunately did not for us. Room was very cold, so so cold. I tried to turn on the heat but it was still freezing. Pool- nice size. They played music and held activities every hour or so. Things like water volleyball, water aerobics, a soccer contest, bingo etc. Chairs are plentiful but people come and reserve them early by placing their towels on them so if you want one with an umbrella or table I would get there early. Drinks are brought to you. Cheap liquor brands and sour mixers but it was expected. I didn't get a buzz at all and drank a lot lol. Personal problem. Beach is close. The water is really dark though so I only put my feet in. Food: The buffets weren't bad. Repetitive but not bad. I am a vegetarian and they have a lot of meat/fish options so I mainly had salads, build your own pasta and crepes everyday. Breakfast I was able to get veggie omelets made. The snack bar was a sit down place. I wish you could bring a plate of food closer to the pool area or chairs but they didn't allow it. We could only get reservations at the Mexican restaurant for dinner and I was pretty disappointed. We came at 9pm, the service was ok but he was cleaning up and it took a long time to get refills and our food. Staff- very friendly. Esmerelda in the dining area learned our names right away and was also sure each day to smile and say hi. Jose outside by the pool was awesome. He memorized my drink and made sure I was always set. Everyone who passed us spoke and smiled. Nearby: The city bus can be caught right outside. We went to Walmart/Sams Club/Mall and it was 36 pesos for 2 people each way. To the right of the hotel, there's a little mall or shopping center but we literally walked in and walked out. Unless you want food (subway, dominios, coffee, ice cream) it's kind of a waste of time. Bring lot of $1's and tip the staff. They work hard. We left $1's for the wait staff, bag valet, bartenders etc. Overall, good experience for the short time we were there. If you've been on the fence about booking this hotel, don't think twice! This is an AMAZING resort! For our stay here we never encountered any problems - if we did, it was quickly resolved! So what was good about it? Everything from the pools to the pool bar - no complaint there! Bar attendants were on top of their game! They knew what we drank daily! It was fun to be on the pool deck! The beach is beautiful! The sand was fine and we played out there for a bit!next to the resort was a small store and I bought myself a floatie to play in the waves! What else? The food from all the restaurants ! Hands down - the taste daily was impressive - the menu in the buffet rotated! The other 3 restaurants - Italian, Japanese and Mexican were impressive! Rooms were perfect at the end of the day. For a mid size resort I loved it! Bigger doesn't mean better! This was the best! read more

OCCIDENTAL = ACCIDENTAL! I don't know how many times I have to say this... waste of $$$zzz The occidental makes me feel that I've made a accidental choice. So how do I start my review.. I'm still at the resort. It's been 2 days since our arrival and I have mixed feelings and a bit of regret. My boyfriend purchased this holiday for our 4 year anniversary. The flight was good, then we arrived to the resort and it just been downhill from the get go. We were approached by Annabelle who is one of the many concierge at this hotel. She approached us and was very friendly and helpful, but we can tell that there is a undertone within this resort that they want us to purchase a timeshare, we've done these presentations a couple years ago. She is great and make you feel comfortable!!! We got our room and our luggage was delivered by Antonio who is super friendly and was helpful in telling us where to go and what areas to visit. Then after our bags were dropped off we looked outside the room to see the "deluxe ocean view room" and well our view was ummm, how can you say, blocked by tops of the trees and huts so we went downstairs and asked to change rooms. We were told to come back next day and we did as told and was offered a room but was facing other side of hotel. There was a room which is the main floor but had a cute terrace so good for smokers and to dry our swimsuits. But there are so many flies inside our room and I'm looking at them right now while I type away. The washroom smells like sulphur, sewage? Which is disgusting, and I DO NOT expect this from such a higher star resort. Then we go to the snack bar, the server would not give us any attention only to the locals who do not even have the all inclusive wristband on. What is stupid is that we cannot even get any cutlery!!!!! So we ate with our fingers, we are in Mexico not India!!! and by the time we finished our food, we had to go up to her and ask for beverages and the vibes from her was not good nor positive. Even the bars, we wait politely and then a local comes and they get served before us. I feel the locals get more service and this is not right. I know they do not pay as much as us foreigners do. I've been to PVR many many times and I am a high reviewer and just disappointed. We thought that Nuevo Vallarta would be great but Christmas we will be staying most likely at Hard Rock or else Paradise. The beach is beautiful and the peddlers are not as aggressive as downtown Puerto Vallarta which is good. We were told our rooms would be cleaned ASAP and the cleaning cart was in front of our room since 10:00am so we left and thought the cleaner would be done by 12:00pm, so we came back and still nothing touched. I asked her if our rooms next and she told us yes, so we left again and sat by the pool. 12:45pm, we went back thinking everything would be cleaned and we can take a quick shower and sleep but nope. So I asked the mini bar stock boy and he said he will tell her and should be next. We waiting again and i wasn't feeling 100% so we sat inside the lobby. We decided to give them another 45 minutes. 1:30pm my boyfriend went and still not even touched and the cleaning cart still remained in front of our room. 2:00pm came back, not clean, 3:00pm came back again, still nothing. By the time it was 3:40pm I was dizzy and wanted rest and i was upset so went back to the room and told them check in is 3:00pm so rooms should be cleaned close to that time? Approximately 4:15pm our room was finally done and after over 6 hours of waiting, we've had it. I checked the sheets and there is still blood stain on side so now we will sleep on top of of blankets. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL if you expect to have any service on the beach, even Holiday Inn Resort PVR had the servers coming and checking up on us every 30 minutes. The buffet is great but during 45 minutes we only got one refill of water in first day, second day Erik was super friendly so I tipped him well. I honestly expected more from this resort, as it is not a 3 star but a 4.5 star. Also more expensive than Krystal Vallarta and Holiday Inn Resort. All I can say is I do not think we will be back, nor would I tell my fellow readers and friends to come here. I expected some sort of credit or money back, even a free massage with downsizing our room to a regular room! Super disappointed. Dreading what is going to happen in the next 5 days. If we could go back home now and get refund, We would. Our friends that are here with us as well feel the same and this is just sad and terrible. My reviews are mostly positive and good experiences but this Occiental Grand is not a good one for me. There is room for improvement and the staff need to acknowledge the fact that yes we are paying customers and I do not expect anyone to jump through hoops of fire but some decent service. If the HI wasn't closed for renovations we would of switched to them yesterday. read more

This resort was a little gem. Tucked away in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit this beachfront property has everything that a 5 star all inclusive has to offer. Good food in the restaurants. The general buffet was just ok and sufficed if you couldn't reserve a table at one of the specialty restaurants. We visited the International, Mexican and Teppanyaki specialty restaurants - all were excellent. Entertainment nightly with unlimited drinks and cocktails. Loved it. read more

Terrible customer service. We had a stay booked at this hotel. My wife had severe medical issues and was hospitalized for a month. While we were in the hospital, I contacted Bavaro( the parent company of this hotel) and provided them with a medical certificate of the occurrence. I was assured that I would be able to change the dates and stay at a different time. I provided them with new dates and was told that the hotel denied the request that i had been assured would be approved. We will definitely never book with this family of hotels again. read more

This place has been good far and the servers have been good. However, they basically up charge for anything and the management team especially Alberto Rodriquez does not have the best manner and not good communication skill in dealing with customers. We had to pay a significant amount in order to stay a few more hours since our flight was change to the evening. In addition. The premises needs some upgrades in the rooms and had to get reservations to dinners. I would not recommend this hotel or dealing with Alberto if you can have other options. read more

Compared to the resorts in Cancun and resorts in Cabo I would barely rate this a one star. It was taunted as an all-inclusive. But there was no room service no top shelf alcohol. They said there's a mini bar in the room. There was two bottles of water two bottles of soda and two bottles of beer. What a joke. Oh let's not forget the one bag of chips and peanuts that have been expired since 2022. Basically two restaurants that changed names every other night. The smallest Buffet I had ever seen at an all-inclusive resort. And we were told most of the times you have to put name in a couple days in advance to eat at one of the restaurants. One of the most ridiculous things ever. I've been staying at all inclusive for over 15 years. Not a chance I would recommend this to anyone or ever come back. read more

Honestly I am surprised, and sad to write this review. My friends and I decided to go with this hotel even though there are many options. When we checked in, it literally took an hour to check us in. The nice gentleman at the front desk had no idea what he was doing because it was his first day, and there was no one around that was actively training him; poor guy. he had no idea how to check us in which is why it took him an hour, and there were four people scheduled to be in the room with the double bed and when we arrived in our room there was one single bed. We had a destination to go to and we were on a tight schedule, and advise the front desk that we needed our luggage brought to our room as soon as possible. I kept saying oh yeah two minutes, oh yeah five minutes, even called our room to tell us they were going to arrive to our room with our luggage into minutes... Nothing. Then when my friend called to try to check the status of the luggage, she kept getting hung up on. Finally, the luggage arrived and we got ready in five minutes and ran to the elevator. One of my friends was so excited to eat her tres leches birthday cake, however the fridge was only as big as my foot. We called the front desk to tell them that we had ordered a room with two beds and they said no problem, that we would change it later. This was not the case... When we arrived back from our excursion, when we called to change the room, they informed us that there were no more rooms but they did come into our room while we gone and blast our air conditioning. Then we called the front desk because we had no washcloths to wash our face, and they told us that they ran out of washcloths because they are completely booked. In fact, the front desk receptionist when we finally did get a hold of her, stated "we are booked at 104%". Basically, the staff gave us the run around so many times during our stay and would tell us things that were not true so we would leave them alone. When we would talk to them to follow up, they wouldn't honor what the previous person said. This is a big problem and needs to be improved with this hotel. I will not stay here again, and my group is looking into reservations elsewhere as soon as we awoke this morning. Never again! read more

Cater to the masses - single traveler and waited forEVER to be checked in and then room had broken door (balcony does not lock) and room not stocked (waters drinks) late arrival means no restaurant meal as those are reservations only at 9am!!! Only choice was buffet and I sat for over 10 minutes without a server or water next morning- in LINE to make dinner reservations- only one attendant - so far been waiting for 20 minutes and have 4 groups ahead of me ‍ and balcony door still not locking This is my first night and I am NOT impressed- should have stayed at the RIU where I know the service is awesome read more

Had a good time here, Luis Robles was our server on the beach, and he was amazing. Really made my trip easy and stress free, was friendly, attentive, and kind. All the staff here have been nice and accommodating but Luis takes the cake. Rooms are clean, beach is nice, food is okay, drinks are good. read more

If I could I would give this hotel even less than 0 star. I don't know where to start. The check in process was completely a disaster. The person who was helping us spend almost ten minutes only looking for a pen to write something down. The room was pretty bad. Bathroom was so nasty beds felt moist and damped. Horrible place to stay! It's supposed to be all inclusive!!! Their customer service is horrible! They make you wait in a long line to make a restaurant reservation and once it's your turn to make the reservation, it's suddenly all booked and you're out of luck..the same goes with the beach towels.. they run out and you get none...
