Looks and is a very experienced Master based on what I saw. I came looking for further information to be part of and learn, unfortunately I was ignored. I was respectful at all times, I'm a martial artist, I'd like to expand my knowledge. There was one man who was practicing there and attended me very nicely, very respectful very kind compared to the master. Maybe Master was busy and had to go somewhere important, but ignoring someone, to what I was taught is extremely disrespectful. My respects to this studio and Masters and piers, I hope and seek to be part of someday. read more

Master Shi (Shifu) spent many years as a monk at the Shaolin temple in China. His practice sessions began before dawn and did not finish until after nightfall. This rigorous training continued for 20 years. This means that his methods are as authentic as is possible because they came from the source. Please re-read this last sentence as it is the most important. Shifu is expert in Shaolin Kung Fu, Yang style Tai Chi, and Qi Gong. The classes are low key and yet keep you moving all of the time. I have been doing the kung fu classes with master YanQing and it has been so much fun. This is my first time learning KungFu and Master YanQing is being very patience with teaching each step with details to help me remember. It trains my mind to be more focused and calmer. I thoroughly enjoy this slower Yin Yoga style. Slow movements while focusing on the breath. This is not your typical trendy yoga, but a more focused, slow movement style. I always come out of there much more relaxed. Lanie is great. She really knows her style and helps one with posture when not performing the poses correctly. You are in for an incredible experience! It all starts with the extremely talented and awesome founder: Master Shi Yan Qing, a true master of Shaolin Kung Fu. His warmth, humbleness, and kindness makes everyone feel welcome to the school. His knowledge, expertise, wisdom and natural teaching instincts provide so much to learn in appropriate amounts. When you are ready to learn, you will take it all in! One does not feel overwhelmed or unable to participate...and if you desire more technique and strength exercises, they are there to challenge you! Master is so benevolent to all and at almost 50 years old, I am able to still participate at my own pace (i.e. what my body will allow me to do for the day! Wink wink!) For children, Master is so patient and kind...even with my sometimes "stubborn" and "naughty" daughter! However, she just loves attending class and learning here! She does not pretend to be asleep on Kung Fu days as she is eager to change clothes and participate with the other children! I am surprised at how quickly she has achieved stances and postures...all due to the extraordinary teaching from Master! For adults that want to progress and achieve higher levels, Master is amazing at developing your technique and talent. Even I just got my white belt and I am anxious to get to blue belt! Yan Qing is a great teacher! He was my shifu at Shaolin Temple Culture center in Temple City years ago . He also taught at the Shaolin Temple in China and had a part in the last film - Shaolin Temple ! He's a true gem of a Shaolin master !! Great place for kids/adults to learn kungfu/self defense, qi gong class! My son (5 years old) started going here about 9months ago. He loves it! Master is great, positive encouragement teaching style. When my son's movement was wrong, instead of saying"don't do that", master will show him the right way and guid him. The class teaches basic movements for the kungfu to the specific kungfu movements. As I watch the class, those movements are not easy..... need lots of practice and muscle memory. Surprisingly little 5 year old can remember all! We should never limit our kids :D active life style is good for their brain development too! They also teach respect, how to respect others, respect parents and elderly, instructors, no abusing the kungfu movements but I think it's good to know how to protect themself! My son attends the kids Kung fu class once a week and enjoys it. He's learning quite a bit of movements which challenges his body to move. The instructor is very good and very patient with the kids. read more

This is a genuine master which will help you achieve your practice goals: martial arts, health and/or spiritual growth. Beside Kungfu, you can learn true Tai Chi and QiGong. I started with QiGong since it is the foundation practice. Sifu teaches main Shaolin groups of exercises which are meant to build up strength and open body meridians. I've seen very fast results with daily practice (you need to put the effort), really worth it. I am also taking Tai chi classes, and i really love it. He is patient and demonstrates movements several times. I like how he watches us moving and then shows us how to correct, explains what we are not doing right and why it is not helping us. read more

If you are looking for the ultimate martial art master, look no further. Master Shi Yanqing, aka Sifu, only recently arrives from China and he is here to pass on ancient Shaolin Kung Fu techniques to both adults and children. His studio offers classes in Tai Chi, Qi Gong meditation, Adult Self-defense, Adult Sparring classes, and Kids Kung Fu. Both Adult Self-defense and Adult Sparring classes, which I've enrolled in, offer quite a workout. I learned so much in both classes that I've enrolled my 7 year old son also into their Kids Kung Fu class. In the past years we have tried 2 Taekwon Do studios in Costa Mesa and he didn't really learn anything. But with Master Shi Yanqing my son has quickly learned some choreograph Shaolin Kung Fu moves. Just after 2 lessons, he gained enough confidence that he defended himself against a bully in school. After my son block the bully's punch and showed him some Shaolin punches and kicks the bully never bothered him again. My son has gained much confidence after a few lessons that he was motivated to keep learning more Shaolin Kung Fu. I learned a lot too in the Adult Defense class. As a woman with smaller stature it is good to learn some techniques so if ever someone tries to attack me I will learn how to defend and also attack. Since Master Shi Yanging knows all about Chinese weaponry he will eventually teach me how to use weapons like long stick, broad swords, short swords/knifes, etc. after I master some basic Kung Fu techniques. Learn from THE Master who has more trainings above all the Shaolin teachers in the area (and can train them too) and you will get your money's worth! read more
