Rustic feeling yet serene when you look around. The staff were very nice. The wine was excellent. Agnes was our attendant, she was nice but not too attentive. We have to looked for her to give our orders. Waited for so long. We tasted their Red snapper so divinely tasteful. The fish was cooked to perfection. The sauce was amazing . Mouthwatering. We got their freshly baked focaccia with olive oil roasted garlic and balsamic vinegar so good. The best Their house salad was excellent. I loved the way all the leafy vegetables weren't cut by a knife. It looked like peeled by hands. So fresh and crunchy when you bite. The wine was good. We got 3 different wine my choice the Shiraz. It's nice coming here for the ambience alone! They have two or three course dining options and I went with the two course plus a bread order which ended up being the perfect amount of food. The dishes were surprisingly innovative for being a winery restaurant, and I really appreciated the pairings they suggested with each dish. I especially liked their Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot options. It's definitely pricey, but I am glad I got to try dinner here. Only catch is that it's quite difficult to get a car back home - we had dinner at 7:30 pm and it was a bit harrowing getting a taxi. The hotel will help call for you but our driver double booked himself for extra business so we stood outside almost half an hour in the dark. Regardless, the restaurant itself was great and worth the trip.

Then we were taken through the restaurant, up the stairs to the gorgeous patio area. We were given a flight of 4 wines, each topped with a small bite pairing. The Tasting: 1. Sauvignon Blanc paired with house bread and Romesco. This was my all-time favorite out of the entire tasting. 2. Pinot Gris paired with dried Gouda cheese. This pairing was phenomenal. The wine and cheese complemented each other wonderfully. 3. Summer Aphrodisiac paired with Kalamata olive. This one seemed to be the majority favorite of the group. 4. Madame Rouge paired with Sweetened walnuts. This was my least favorite of the pairing. Not that it tasted bad, it was just too sweet for my liking. Overall this was a wonderful vineyard to visit, I'm so happy it was included in our package tour.

It was a crowded off-season day on the ferry, so we decided to make a reservation at Batch while we were waiting for our Western Explorer bus at the Waiheke Ferry landing. We skipped all the other vineyards & went straight to Batch in hopes of avoiding the crowds. We are so glad we did. The view was amazing & it wasn't crowded when we arrived. The service was excellent and the food was top shelf. We had the herb bread with olives, risotto, and pavlova. Focusing on just one vineyard was a delightful way to spend the afternoon without trying to do all the vineyards.

Tantalus Estate - Waiheke Island…read more Tantalus Winery is located on beautiful Waiheke Island, an easy and very pleasant 40-minute ferry ride from Auckland. Once on the island, you can hop on a hop-on/hop-off bus or take a local bus--both make getting around simple and stress-free. The estate itself is stunning. There's a winery, a restaurant, and a brewery, and we chose to sit outside to fully enjoy the vineyard views. The setting is peaceful, lush, and absolutely gorgeous--one of those places where you instantly want to slow down and take it all in. The food was excellent. I tried green-lipped mussels for the first time--smoked and marinated--and they were delicious. Even better, they were served without shells, which made them incredibly easy to eat. The kingfish appetizer was a standout: fresh, beautifully prepared, with a dollop of avocado and a coconut-style aioli that was truly special. A real "wow" dish. We also did a wine flight, which made the experience fun especially given the range of wines available. The only downside was the music--it was blaring a bit too loud. In such a serene, Zen-like environment, it competed with the natural beauty rather than enhancing it. This is a place where you just want to sit, sip, and absorb the surroundings. That said, Tantalus is absolutely worth the trip. Incredible setting, memorable food, and a wonderful way to experience Waiheke Island.

I had never thought of Waiheke as a weekend break let alone holiday destination. We stayed at the Cross Trees Chalet, conveniently located in the property adjacent to the Te Whau Estate. After two weeks of windy, rainy and cold weather, we were blessed to have clear, still weather on this jaunt. Arriving at Te Whau, we were stunned at the view. The restaurant is located atop a hill, and looks down at its vineyard. Across the small inlet, one can see the Kennedy Point Ferry terminal. And what a marvellous view made all the more spectacular by the fading azure blue skies and the sun painting the skyline above Auckland City a burnished gold. Just spectacular. We started with the entree of Seared Kingfish and my wife had scallops. I can't really say much other than superb. For my main, I had Gnocchi wrapped in aubergine while my wife had the lamb. Again, both dishes were just superb. For dessert, I had a cheddar cheese with a glass of Semillon. My wife had the sticky date pudding. The only thing I would have done differently would have been to get the cheese platter because I just wanted more. The sticky date pudding was the best I have ever eaten in the world. The flat white (coffee) she had with it was the best flat white she'd ever had. And she can drink coffee! ;-) This has been the best dining experience I have had in a long time. The service was great. Tony and Moira have really set the bar high with their care and attention to detail. It's easy to see why they have done very well with awards over the years. But don't take my word for it, try it yourself. You won't be disappointed.

I arrived at 2.50pm for lunch, which ends at 3pm. They were more than willing to accommodate my needs, and served me a fantastic lunch of pork and pistachio terrine (see photo). I will be back next time I'm in Auckland!
