A level of care above and beyond anything in the U.S. The folks here are kind and caring. And the facility is immaculate. I was here with friend who was getting surgery. The entire process, from pick up at the airport to daily transportation to the hospital to the 5 star hotel, was amazing. We stayed at the Quartz hotel, which is geared to medical tourism The accommodations, food, and amenities were top notch. The clinic and hospital itself were above anything that I have experienced in healthcare. This is the creme de la creme of medical tourism. I highly highly highly recommend Dr Michel and his team. A very overweight version of myself visited this place 2.5 years ago and made one of the best decisions of her life. I had tried getting the gastric sleeve covered through my insurance in San Diego, but they ended up charging me over $23,000. Feeling hopeless, I ended up finding this place. I had a consultation with Dr. Michel at the hospital who answered what was probably hundreds of questions and concerns I had about the surgery. Working in the medical field I've seen a lot of success stories and I've seen some complications. He answered and explained everything I questioned. The hospital itself was very clean and the staff was all very friendly. I had scheduled my pre operative appointment, had blood work, ekg, etc. From there I scheduled my surgery date. On my surgery day, the hospital is nice enough to have someone come pick you up and take you to the hospital. After arriving I was buzzed in to go upstairs and they got me prepped for surgery. From there, they played my favorite song and put me to sleep. After waking up, I remember my first thought being, was that it??? I stayed in the hospital for a total of 3 days, they monitored my vitals and made sure everything was okay. They had overnight nurses as well constantly checking on everyone. I was lucky enough to get my own private room for myself and a family member. During one of the nights that I couldn't fall asleep, I went on a walk inside the hospital and ran into a girl who was also having trouble sleeping. This girl is now a very dear friend of mine! Now after losing a total of 125 pounds, as stated above, this was one of the best decisions of my life. I know people get scared because it's TJ and there's so many horror stories, but my experience was nothing like this. I paid 4K at the time, but I'm pretty sure they're doing it cheaper now. i loved everything their friendly etc the only problem i had was with the PARKING GUY he was rude and he ALWAYS wants $ In order for you to park their when i was clearly told their parking was FREE when i had went with my husband he gave the guy 100 pesos then i had gone alone and i guess he wanted me to give him 100 pesos every time i was going to be their and no! The old guy got mad and had me waiting outside for parking I literally went late to my appointment ! hope they really do talk to the guy to change that of him ! read more

Today marks one year of having surgery. Biggest mistake I ever made in my life is going to Tijuana and trusting those Doctors from Obesity Not For Me to do the right surgery I paid for.. I should of known something was wrong when I first woke up from surgery.. as soon as I woke up the were telling me I owed them $600 more because they found a hernia and they decided to remove it when they didnt have too.. after I already paid them five thousand of dollars. I was stressing on how I was going to pay them 600 so my mom paid them.. after that everything started going down hill.. 15 days in the hospital may not sound like a lot but when you have 3 small kids at home scared waiting for mommy to come home feels like years.. I was literally losing my life and the doctors in Tijuana were saying everything was fine and every time I would go to them to see what is going wrong they were trying to charge me $200.. my mom would yell at them.. when I was in the hospital my mom called me and I told her I can't do this no more I was soo weak and tired and in so much pain I was ready to accept not waking up anymore.. I knew my kids were with my mom they were safe.. my mom freaked out and had my kids call me.. they were crying and I remember mickey saying mommy please come home I need you.. I could hear how scared he was in his little voice.. my mom got me out of sharp hospital and took me to Scripps in la Jolla.. as soon as I got there I had 6 drs in my room checking on me trying to hook me up to machines.. after 3 days they were able to stop me from throwing up.. I was throwing up everyday for 1 month straight.. I couldn't keep NOTHING down.. they told me that if I would of stayed at sharp 2 more days i would of had heart problems.. my blood pressure was extremely low. Once we were able to control me throwing up my new dr started running test on me and the doctor from Tijuana started messaging me asking what is happening I told him the name of my new dr and he was shocked that my new dr was the chief of gastric bypass surgery for all of San diego.. my new dr asked the Tijuana dr for the surgery summary and he sent it with videos to my phone.. I showed my Dr's and right away they said something isn't right by looking at the videos.. they read the summary and the Tijuana dr did the wrong surgery and he knew it because all the paperwork I had said they did the gastric bypass and the surgery summary that he sent my new dr said a different surgery.. I had to have a picc line where I would get all my nutrition because I couldn't eat.. I was in and out of the hospital and I also ended up with blood clots that to this day I still have complications.. im on more medication now than I ever was before.. yes I lost weight but it was not worth everything I went through and definitely not worth almost leaving my kids behind.. people would tell me just wait a year from now when your all better you will not regret the surgery.. I still REGRET this surgery and the dr in Tijuana is a bad doctor and doesn't care about people's lifes just his money period!! This place is a complete ripoff! I gave one star because I can't give zero. They push you to put down a deposit and tell you that once you do you can schedule surgery. Nope! Then you must go on a diet before they will schedule. Ok thats fine but when I asked how long to do the diet or how much I had to lose before I could schedule, they would NOT GIVE AN ANSWER. I need to schedule time off like any normal person, so I wanted to have some idea. 10 pounds, 50 pounds, 100 pounds?? They wouldn't say. SO I found a better center/surgery team who was able to give me the info I need and I have already scheduled surgery & started preop diet. Don't waste your time or $300 like I did with this place. read more

I was highly recommended to this doctor by a friend who had gotten a sleeve and lost lots of weight she's currently at her goal weight. She had also recommended 2 family members and a co-worker all with great results. This is something I'd been wanting to do so right after having my 4th baby I started doing my research. Which is why I added them on yelp since I couldn't find anything about them here so I figured I'd pave the way to future possible patients. Let me start by saying the facility is easy to find, not by the border but more like 15 minutes from the San Ysidro port of entry. The hospital is a 2 story building looks relatively new and has onsite and street parking. The outside building says Hospital Insurgentes which was confusing to me at 1st because I expected it to say Obesity not 4 me. So just to clear it up the docs office and the surgeries are performed in the same building. This is also where patients recover after surgery. The hospital is very clean, has a nice cool AC, nurses are very nice for the most part. It has all the US hospital accommodations, oh yea place has outside security and you also have to be buzzed to go upstairs you just can't walk in. I went in to my initial appt in May, couldn't get an appointment with the doctor around the time I could be in TJ so spoke to the psychologist Jacqueline. She was polite, educated and knowledgeable so I gave my deposit and booked surgery for the following month 6/13/17. I was bummed about not meeting the doc that would digest me, however I had pretty much made up my mind before going in for a consult. I just needed to checkout the place for myself and make sure it was legit. While there I was able to speak to returning patients and even one who was walking around, turned out she had surgery the day before. She told me it went great, had discomfort but no real pain. She was American and lived in California. Came back for surgery on 6/12, did the labs and a electrocardiogram and was seen by a physician to evaluate if I was healthy enough for surgery. I have no medical conditions except for thyroid but it's normal so I got the ok to proceed the next day with surgery. Came in for surgery the next morning I was the 2nd operation of the day. The doc came up to my room took me in and what felt like being under anesthesia for 15 mins and I was done doc said ur good Ms, we are taking you to your room. My cousin was waiting for me upstairs the doc told her all went good. I was in a room with another patient, they do have an extra bed for each patient so a relative can stay with you. We shared a room and bathroom and we each had our own TV. Only downside is I was never able to watch it because the nurse said I or a relative had to "checkout" the remote downstairs. There's no elevators so I wasn't going to go down and up the stairs. I was taken back by that answer because why can't they bring it to the patient? Then when I asked for the wifi password I was also told I had to ask the receptionist outside the doctors office for it?!! Really??! The docs were upstairs as well so I just walked over it was part of my exercise however I do think they should be able to provide that as well!!! Anyhow I slept pretty much the whole time those meds are good!! I was out for the most part, I mean I couldn't stay awake which is good because I was there for 2 days and I felt so rested. I didn't have ANY pain whatsoever yes I know sounds ludacris but it is a fact. I mean I had a headache and that was painful. I have 4 tiny incisions, i expected to feel different and I didn't I felt normal which is good. I even questioned if in fact they had shrunk my stomach because I felt nothing. However when I had my first "meal" on day 3, oh yea there was a difference. I got full so quickly with 100 ml of liquid soup. The only bit of discomfort was because I had a drainage I had with me even after being discharged. They finally took it out the last day I was in town before heading back to the states. Overall I'm very happy with the outcome, I've had 0 complications, have lost 40 lbs in 2 1/2 months, I would recommend this office. I did take a star off because the remote and wifi situation at the hospital. Before heading back to the states I had to see the doc to remove my drainage, I asked the doc about a medical pass to cross the border, he said oh yea go downstairs and ask the front desk. I did, the receptionist there gave me some lame story of why they didn't have any "at that time" trying to avoid eye contact and just being very vague. Her story was not creditable. The other reason I took off a star is besides the 1 phone call to follow up on me a week after surgery they have not called to follow up at all. That's kinda disappointing to me, since I do live far, I can't take advantage of the free 1st year doc visits but I'd appreciate at least a call from the nurse every month just to follow up. read more
