He had a great personality, infused a lot of humor with all of the information, and was good with people. The beer was very good. There was soooo much beer on the tour and people kept handing me theirs (I don't know why). Needless to say, I was feeling it by the end of the tour. There was an interesting beer-based shot drink at the end that was good. Again, people kept giving me theirs and the tour guide poured me a second one. Geez! At the end of the tour we got to eat dinner. Yum! It was some of the best food I had while in Germany. There was also a quiz to see if you got some kind of certificate. We all cheated. Lol There was a nice little gift shop that had a variety of things for different interests and ages.

You can serve yourself beer from 5pm-10:00pm and there were 6 options of beer to choose from! We loved every type of beer on tap. We arrived late to our beer pool but the owner was kind enough to leave a note on the door for us and showed up 5 min after we called. Bring your own towels and soap - there are showers to rinse off with after you leave the beer pool! Shout out to Andrea for being such an awesome host! We will definitely come back to starkenberger next time we are in Austria!! Amazing experience!!!

When I was on vacation in Germany I really enjoyed visiting Kloster Breweries. You feel like you are having a religious experience with a beer buzz. Since I was collecting Beer Steins at the time I purchased two at one Kloster Brewery I visited. I like the feel of the stein and the taste of beer when you drink it out of this stein. I've kept my steins for years and years. I'm recommending when you visit Germany that you tour one (or more) of the monastery or castle breweries. It's an unforgettable experience! Klaus, if I get anything wrong please tell me. I don't want to look too stupid. All I have are my happy memories. Plus I have my souvenirs placed where I can see them all the time!!!

The pews look original and you can find carvings people left in the wood. Many Of the carvings are initials with dates. We found some from 1770. The monastery was build in 1330. We stopped by the gift shop afterwards. They have a great selection of home brewed beers, liquors and other little trinkets. I would highly recommend to visit Kloster Ettal when in the area.

You will still see the original restaurant as well as the brewery. The tour of the brewery was self-guided. The equipment is in a separate room with informational signs and translations by QR code. It's all very informative. The ladies in the tasting room are so friendly and helpful in describing the beers. We were able to sample 2 different types of beer. We shared a flight of 5 beers between the 3 of us. The most popular choice among us was the Fruity Cave. I really love the cherry in this sour craft beer. Another stand out to me was the seasonal Grena Gurk. It had an herbal taste with hints of pomegranate and cucumber. It's a unique flavor that you just don't see very often. It's a pretty hot pink color as well. My husband really liked the Quöllfrisch Hell which he said was very refreshing. We were also given some Brewbee Tschipps to try along with the beer. These are made using the byproduct (or recycled grain) of the brewing process. It's a satisfying malted chip treat. I wish we had purchased more bags and flavors. They're actually quite addicting. There's an awesome looking shop full of all kinds of products made by this company. It's not just about the beer and tschipps. They also produce Säntis Malt Whisky, salad dressings, and so much more. I should have bought more as I'm finding it difficult to find any of it in the states. It was a lovely autumn day in the beautiful town of Appenzell. I know this place is known more for the cheese, but I found the beer to be just as memorable.

Poster above it says that's also the world's smallest portable beer brewery. I had zwickle every time I was there and it was good :) Food - really bayerisch, portions - HUGE (at first evening we went there for a beer. I wasn't hungry, but decided I need to try out at least smthn and ordered one knödel. Well, that knödel was about size of my both fists together! :D), prices - ok. So 5 stars from me.
