Unfortunately, that changed once they moved here from California to Iowa. Things started to shift when they began questioning my faith and making me feel uncomfortable at work. Their attitude toward me seemed to change daily, and so did their story about my position. Eventually, I was asked to contact my previous boss to see if he had work for me. I can't even describe the feeling I had in that moment. After everything I had built over the past five years, I was suddenly worried about losing it all. I explained that I had bills to pay, and the response I received was, "That's not my problem. We all have bills to pay." It felt like a slap in the face.
