A great experience. I knew it would be good, but it was even better than expected. The service…read morewas prompt and professional. We were a large group of 6, and the server helped us with the menu, provided recommendation, and ensured that we did not over order. I am new to these flavors and cuisine. Can;t really rate it objectively, but I am certain that it is delicious. We were tired of tapas, and this was perfect to rejuvenate our taste buds.

Upon arrival we were welcomed by the friendly host and seated right away. The tables are these cute booth style seating. While very cute, they're also very tight - really designed for two people. I sat next to my young kiddo and we both found it somewhat uncomfortable. The seats are also quite shallow which made me feel like I was sitting at the end of my seat (I'm an average height guy ~6 ft). The restaurant was beautiful and felt like you had stepped into an old Moroccan bazaar. Really great balance of tradition and culture without being too tacky. After asking a few questions about the menu to manage dietary restrictions, we landed on the humus, babaganoush, chicken tagine and chicken couscous. Both the hummus and babaganoush were served with a pita bread. They were both solid. Flavors were on point. My one observation, and this could be due to Moroccan preparation, was the hummus was a bit thinner than most hummus. So while flavor was great consistency was a bit off to me. The main dishes were both wonderful. The chicken tagine was a generous portion, great for sharing. Two chicken drumsticks with a ton of veggies and fruits cooked to perfection that the meat fell off the bones. The sauce was tasty and well spiced. The couscous was similarly generous two drum sticks buried under a mountain of couscous and topped with a selection of root veggies and accompanied by a side of "salsa" aka chicken broth.

Arroyo Hondo is owned by a japanese woman and her brittish husband, hence the theme of the food is international with asian, moroccan and european influences. During the hot summer most of the visitors are sitting in the beautiful and lovely garden which reminds a bit about Japan exterior. The waiters are very nice and service-minded. We ordered chicken karage to share as a starter (8.5EUR) which was pleasant. As a main course we ordered Lamb chops, Skirt steak with soba noodles, turbot with baby potatoes and monkfish with citronaisse (mayonaisse with a touch of citrus). Approx. 18-22EUR per dish. The presentation of the dishes was fabulous and all of the tasted good. However the Skirt Steak became everyones favourite! The children ordered 2 margaritas that also looked really tasty (really good that they had options for children as well). As dessert it was really difficult to decide since the menu were full of tempting choices. However we ordered baked lemon cake and pavlova with berries (6.5EUR). Both of them really good as well. Why only 4 star? Arroyo Hondo has become one of my favourites in Costa del Sol. Food with modern touch, divine view up in the mountains, service-minded waiters/waitresses and affordable. However, for the last star I would like even more spices in the food and even more WOW-feeling (now I am comparing with restaurants in general and not only restaurants in Costa del Sol). Go here during your next stay. Eat, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery high up in the mountains! Pay attention: You need to make a reservation at least 2 days in advance!
