visiting the Oark General Store was not just a visit, it is an experience. the food was great, the people are nice and the service is good. They are off the beaten path a bit, but the pie alone is worth the trip and they have the freshest fries anywhere. they are cut to prepare for each order. they have many interesting items in the store I hadn't seen in years. I am truly happy our friends took us there. we don't live anywhere near this area, but we definitely hope to visit again. read more

This place was awesome! Amazing burger and wonderful staff! The building reminded me of Going to Cotham's in Scott Ar. Was worth the drive! Will go back! read more

I detoured to come here and am glad I did. It's the smallest of places, but there's a huge dining area and a small general store. I picked up a jar of local sorgum molasses for my detour troubles. Be aware they close at 4 and it didn't appear to be grab and go food service. That's ok...there's always a future time to come by and stay a while. The local library has a book drop and book lockers for community convenience. Super cute! read more

All I will say is it's legendary. Hamburgers are huge and the fresh cut fries are great. But don't forget the possum pie and some ice cream Staff is fast n work hard getting groups in and out. I stop at this location every year we are riding as it's one of the must stop places read more

Oark General Store - Possum pie - Grocery Near Me - Oark, Arkansas

The Oark General Store is a must stop if you are touring around Arkansas on two wheels or in your car. On a recent motorcycle trip, some friends and I decided to include this place in our plans and it was one of the best food stops on the trip. While you wait in line, you can peruse the souvenirs and t-shirts for sale as well as other general store goods. The line moved pretty quickly for us and there is an awesome guy at the counter running the whole show. At one register he will take food orders. At another, he will check out people there for general store stuff. Finally, at a third register, he will check out people just interested in pie or ice cream. It was impressive to watch. He was so patient and kind with everyone as well. Very welcoming. I went with the steak and cheese sandwich with hand cut fries. I also ordered a slice of pie with ice cream. They give you a slip of paper to hand to the pie counter showing you've prepaid for the dessert so you can go get it after you finish eating. It did take a while to get the food, but everything is made fresh to order. I saw them hand cutting the fries as well. The food was well worth the wait. I really enjoyed my sandwich and fries. Everyone I was with enjoyed their food as well. They would come around the restaurant offering refills and cleaning up. Everyone we interacted with was super nice even though they got super busy while we were there. The star of the show was the dessert counter. All the house made pies looked amazing. I heard the apple pie was must try, and it was served warm with vanilla ice cream. It was the best apple pie I've ever had. When we left, a couple of car clubs had a meet up there, so it was fun walking around looking at all the exotic cars and motorcycles. This is a must stop if you are anywhere near here. read more

This place is OUT THERE. I mean, it's extremely remote. About an hour outside of civilization/cell phone networks. And it is the only thing going on "in town". This is a beautiful, small community of people, and if you're looking to meet the locals of the Arkansas Ozarks, this is the place to go. Everyone is friendly. You can buy some hot food or a cold soda. But, it's a dry town, so don't expect and beer or wine. Fair prices, and there is even a gas pump. You pay at the counter with the clerk, and tell them how much you put in your tank. What a true gem. read more

I see what all the hype is about. A great relic of the past that serves wonderful food. I had the steak and cheese sandwich that came with a drink and homemade fries. Think a Philly Cheese Steak on Texas Toast. Perfect with a lot of slivered steak, melted cheese, and plenty of green peppers and onions! The fries were piping hot and cooked perfectly. It's worth the drive! read more

While riding the Pig Trail we detoured to have lunch here. The food was excellent to be sure. I had a burger and fries. I really wanted to try the pecan pie but just didn't have any room for it. The wait for the food was a bit long but it was worth it. Considering this place is a located way off the beaten path and the food is made fresh I was really impressed with their prices. The employees were super friendly and the manager stopped by to chat and expressed disappointment that I didn't save room for pie but I am only human. It was a great place to stop and I'ld go out of my way to eat here again if I am within a hundred mile radius of this place. read more

Food is great and made right in front of you and the owners are friendly, we go here once a month or so. And great dessert choices but the best is the possum pie. read more

Was randomly driving through the state park and came across this place. Was lucky enough to find a spot to park the truck on the side of the road. Had no idea the gem we stumbled on. Had a slice of pie and coffee on the porch. The store had all the essentials you might need. Will be back! read more

Fun rest stop! All the dirt bike adventurists were there! Fun Arkansas merch and delicious burgers and malts!

I found Oark Cafe last year and have been every time I come to Arkansas to camp. It's a staple. Today, they were overrun with Rendezvous In The Ozarks attendees and a ton of adventure bike riders. We walked in and there were 25 people ahead of us, but the wait was short. The most impressive part is that after we ordered we maybe waited 20 minutes for food. And... the food was amazing like normal. Thank you to the Oark staff for being consistently nice, consistent with the quality and taste of food and service. By the way I had the bacon cheeseburger today and fries. Even being slammed it tasted amazing and was hot and fresh. read more

This place is worth a detour if you're close. Quaint little (former gas station) that serves GREAT burgers. This was also the first time I'd had buttermilk pie. Very good! read more

What is to not like about this place! Their burgers are, well, one of a kind. I'm struggling to put together words with how amazing their hamburgers are and their breakfast... If you're from the dirty deep south like I am, it will take you back to your grandma's house. Simple straightforward none of that "city stuff". Well worth the trip and the experience. read more

100% okay with the slightly over 2-hour ride. Couldn't be more hidden. Yet still a full parking lot when we arrived. This small building is about 130 years old, and the there's a modernized 1890's vibe here, playing 1970's music overhead. I'm not sure what I liked better: my bacon cheeseburger or my slice of chocolate pie. The burger was two (seemingly) mini meatloaves, perfectly seasoned, topped with fresh lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. The cheese was bubbly. I found the bun somewhat weak for the job it was trying to hold together. Collapsed into itself at one point. The bacon was fine (isn't it always!), but just not my favorite. The home-made fries were potatoey perfection. My grandmother passed around 1982. If she were still here, I'd be forced to tell her someone makes a better chocolate pie than her. At least I avoided the cussing and getting walloped by a broom. The crust was buttery and of perfect firmness. The chocolate cream was covered in heavenly whipped cream, I assume homemade. Will absolutely be coming back in the Fall, for the leaf show. And a burger. And that pie. Great staff also. Very welcoming, including the owner. read more

We got there before the rush. Burgers came out in 10 min or so. GREAT staff - super friendly and they work hard‼. Pecan pie was my favorite read more

One of the best parts about a motorcycle trip is when you meet a local somewhere and they tell you about a place you never would have found on your own. The Oark General Store is that place. You have to want to get there to get there but once you're there, you're really happy you're there. It's a very old-fashioned place that's been modernized a bit (orders taken on an iPad up front) by the new-ish owners. Great history if you take the time to look it up. More importantly, one of the best burgers I've had in quite some time and a slice of apple crumble/pie that was amazing. The service was equally fantastic from the friendly owner taking our order to the outgoing and enjoyable server who stopped by to check on us a few times. Wish this place were closer so we could go more often--but it's going to make me ride up to Arkansas more often than I have before knowing about it. Do yourself a favor. Take the detour. Enjoy the scenic drive. Order the burgers and some pie. You will not regret it. read more

All I can say is WOW. Menu is super simple yet the options are plentiful. Mostly it's selecting from a variety of 1/2 pound burgers with various toppings. They make the BEST homemade onion rings. Do not skip this step. Order the onion rings. The pie case is overflowing with amazing temptations and they have hand dipped ice cream. I skipped it ( diet) but I was the only one that did in the place that day. Several seemed to come only for the pie! It's a long way from anywhere. But, it's a great excuse for a long and winding drive... read more

We have come with family to vacation the past couple of years. This store is one of the highlights of our trip!!! The hamburgers, homemade fries and pies are to die for!!!! Even if your not hungry, when you drive by the store and smell them cooking, you want to stop and get a burger.. The entire staff is amazing!!! We will continue to come back!! read more

Hop on the "Pig Trail" at I-40 and AR 23. Head north. The Workman's Travel Center is on your right. Your last chance for gas and a bio-break until Oark Store. Just north of Cass, catch the AR 215 east. This drive is a biker or sports car enthusiast's candy, culminating with a delicious juicy hamburger and greasy fries served up at the rustic Oark Store. This little store is the oldest operating general store and restaurant in Arkansas. The "Angry Hornet Burger" is recommended. Save room for pie and ice cream. Retrace the drive west on AR 215 back to the "Pig Trail" and head north to Fayetteville. Enjoy the curves! read more

If you are "in the middle of nowhere...somewhere", you really need to make a point to stop at Oark General Store! They are not so much a store as they are a place to get some really good food, as they do have local jams and jellies, T-shirts, chips, silly games and some other items, but it's more about sandwiches and breakfast items. And pie. Fresh, homemade, incredibly fantastic pie! I got the breakfast sandwich with bacon, which was on two pieces of grilled Texas toast. There must've been four pieces of thick bacon on there that were extra crispy, but not burnt, and totally delicious. They contrasted nicely with the fluffy scrambled eggs and a slice of American cheese. Overall, a very enjoyable sandwich! But the pie! I could go on forever about that, but all I will say is, you can't go wrong with any flavor you choose. When I was there they had peanut butter, Oreo, possum, buttermilk, blueberry, coconut cream, and a few other flavors, all of which were made that morning by the ladies that work there. I chose the blueberry, with a lattice top and a thick blueberry filling and the possum pie. I could not decide which one was better, the sweet, but not deathly sweet, blueberry pie or the possum pie with the fantastic chocolate layer in between whipped cream and a marshmallowy-like bottom on top of a graham cracker crust. So good,!! The service was friendly and quick. There are tables for sitting inside the place, or you can choose to sit at the picnic tables outside under the pavilion that overlooks, on the day I was there, a field of beautiful yellow flowers. Don't miss out on your chance for a bit of deliciousness and history, is it has been operating since 1890! read more

An experience everyone needs to have at least once. The pecan pie was outstanding! The burger was worth the drive.

Hit this spot back in February 2020. Great little general store and restaurant. Met the owner. Super nice guy dishing out quality meals at a great price. I had the chicken fried chicken -off menu. He heard me asking the server about chicken fried steak. He wasn't able to make, but created the chicken version. Located right by the Ozark National Forest, this a must visit in the area. In fact, I've rented a cabin near there and will be back in a few weeks. It's that good! read more

Awesome place the owner was so cool shipped me items from store and was so accommodating. I would recommend swinging in if you are ever going to Ozarks read more

I would recommend this place to anyone passing through or vacationing in the Ozarks. The drive to get here is breathtaking, and it's the cutest store and cafe I've been to in the area. The owners did a great job maintaining the historical integrity of the building, and the food. Is. Scrumptious. We did an early dinner of burgers and fries, and split a few slices of pie, and even came back the next day for lunch to try more flavors! It's that good. The burgers are incredible, so juicy and flavorful, and the fries are also perfectly crisp and delicious. I'm not even a sweets person but you'd be silly to pass up a slice of their pie. We tried the pecan, blueberry, coconut cream, and possum pies. They're all homemade and just soooo tasty. They also have great merch and an assortment of local jams and jellies for purchase. You'll likely be served or greeted by the owner himself (as we were both times), who is friendly and welcoming, and will ensure your visit is pleasant, and that your food is tasty. Go here. Get the burgers. Get the pie. You won't be disappointed. read more

This is the most amazing little store. You must stop in if you are in the area. I spent 5 days at Wolf Pen Recreation Area and came here 3 times. The pies are awesome, burgers are great, reasonably priced and the customer service is impeccable. Highly recommend. read more

This was the filthiest place I have ever been in. The hamburger I ordered was raw, so I asked the waitress to take it back and recook it. She took the beef paddy in her hand back to the cook to have him cook it! What type of person does this? When I went to pay for it although I did not eat it, she was more interested in how much her tip was than anything else. it was a Tuesday and I expect it was a slow day and she was there because they could not get anyone to work that shift. I will never set foot in there again. Don't waste your time. read more

Good burgers, friendly service. Truly an Arkansas experience because the roads to get there are twisty!

Once or twice a month we take a trip to this place. Short drive, nice scenery and great food. It's a short menu but perfect. Always ask for the specials!!! They run out quick!!! So you know it's tasty. I love the waitresses!!! Such a good feel when folks are sincere with their kindness. So dang friendly! Fat burgers and homemade pies to die for... I would tell you the best pie there but then it would limit my chances of getting it when I go!!! It's usually 50/50 that I get it now! Oh well, BUTTERMILK pie like great granny use to make. I get weepy just thinking about that pie! ENJOY! read more

Love this cute landmark. Not sure who the guy was at the window but he was so kind, happy, well mannered, and a respectful gentleman. Although the facility is closed due to COVID, they were kind enough to let us use the restroom which was very clean. The food was okay and reasonably priced. If you don't eat it all, there are stray dogs scavenging the area and will circle you for it. I was bummed they didn't have patches but they do have cute Oark Store stickers read more

Oark General Store - a purple jeep parked in front of it - Grocery Near Me - Oark, Arkansas

Sad, but it appears to have become a high priced tourist trap since the popularity has grown. Food quality has slipped.

Stayed next door in a wonderful Airbnb - Mary's Cottage in Oark (literally across a driveway!) And ate breakfast here several days and lunch on Saturday. Food was so good and fresh. Biscuits were huge and tender and home fries were tasty. Had burger and Oark Melt for lunch. Both were great- not greasy with fresh veggies. Good fries also that were freshly fried. Pies were also wonderful. Tasted home made. Everyone was very nice also and we chatted several times during our stay next door. They built a pavilion with née picnic tables sometime impending 2020, I would guess in response to closing their dining room, which is still closed. The outdoor seating is really nice especially when a large group fo off-readers pull up for lunch. Great idea that I think people will enjoy for a long time. We will come back when in the area. Heck out Mary's Cottage also (lovely 3 bedroom home for your visit)! read more
