I didn't visit any of the anchor stores, but I did go to Bath and Body Works to get a hand soap. The food court area was nicely sized and looked clean. When I went on a Saturday, the crowd looked fine and I didn't see any rowdyness. The mall is still alive and doing fine. This is a still a decent mall in Jacksonville. Overall: B

We frequent Bisciotti's, Josephine, Mojos and Southern Grounds. All 5 star locations for us. No chains here for shopping either. Everything is a privately owned specialty. Vintage, gifts, clothing, and pet boutique. All of them Top Notch. Steady occasions here for festivals and celebrations as well. Just a great place to spend the day with friends or a romantic date. If you haven't spent a day in Avondale, do yourself a favor and check it out. If you're from Jacksonville, you know, but it's one of the hidden gems of Florida.

There's also a coin laundry, a small mom & pop pharmacy, a Hair Cuttery, and Hot Wok which serves up some pretty decent Chinese food. 3 stars because it's not the best part of town, and don't be surprised if you're asked for money from someone nearly every time you step out of your car. Looking at the shops as I was walking through, I didn't see many stores that had closed down, though there were a few. It did lose Forever 21, one of its biggies, but it will be replaced in the not too distant future. The Avenues three pillars at this time are Belk, Dillards, and JC Penny. I came on a slower day during school time and it was a very pleasant visit. There are more than 150 shops and specialty outlets here (like two fantastic coffee kiosks!). Certainly far more than anyone can cover in a day. For me, I love the three sports shops here! Lids, Locker Room by Lids, and Palm Beach Autographs. I'm always guaranteed to make a visit in all three of these stores! Palm Beach Autographs sells sports paraphernalia you won't find at many other places in JAX. You'll find banners, pro and college football team pennants, helmets (large and small, many autographed), signs, and many other unique items for sports' enthusiasts. Lids is mainly a ball cap shop. I got my new Jaguars ball cap on this visit! It also provides stitching on ball caps - a unique feature found rarely in stores of this type. Locker Room by Lids provides all the Jacksonville Jags jerseys, ball caps, T-shirts, and other team player jerseys any fan could hope for. Lids at Town Center has closed. So now I'll make the trip here more often. Two other places I love are Le Crepes and now, Coffee Mood. Make sure you stop at these stellar coffee kiosks when you visit. I'll drift in to Van's, along with a few others. Of note, there are many similar clothing stores and plenty of places for cosmetics and clothing for women at this mall too. As for value, most of the stores here are reputable and things are priced higher than what you may get online. Of course, many shops offer deals, so even this can make visiting The Avenues worth it. Personally, I'm glad it's here, and as one fellow Yelper wrote, "I hope it lasts for another 20 years!" I agree Terron B! And I hope for even more! Recommend: HIGH

Roosevelt Square is an older shopping plaza with a lot of dining options, as well as a Publix and…read moreseveral other businesses. This mall has been open since 1961 when it opened as an open-air center. In 1968, Roosevelt Square was enclosed to compete with other shopping malls like Regency Square Mall and Gateway. In the late 1990's, parts of the shopping plaza was demolished and remodeled and retrofitted for a new stage of this plaza's existence. All in all, Roosevelt Square is a satisfactory place to head for if you have plans to stop at one of the businesses. While nothing spectacular, it is also not overly terrible. I feel it definitely warrants a middle-of-the-road three stars.

Why did they tear up a perfectly good parking lot and put in these awful pavers?? The construction…read morehas been unbearable and they clearly went with the lowest bidder. The pavers they put in are uneven and impossible to navigate. It's like off-roading. Less than a month old and they already have huge potholes. They also took out landscaping and put in palm trees that offer no shade. And don't get me started on navigating! There are medians that are too low to see but right in the middle of the driveways. It's impossible to dodge other cars and the parking lot gets so backed up, especially for Chipotle and Chick-fil-a. This place is so poorly planned now the developer should be banned from ever developing again. Such a shame too because the businesses here are pretty good (although loosing Stein Mart was a big bummer.) This place used to be great but has gone downhill since they tried to fancify it.
