They deserve zero stars. This facility has new ownership and/or management and they are still running off the previous reputation. New administration is absolute trash. If you care anything about your loved one please go anywhere else. My mother caught a life threatening post op infection from this place and almost died. Was not taken to hospital until I showed the nurse the puss filled wound. They serve molded food and didn't even apologize about it. I could go on but my mother is safely at another facility and that's all that matters now. read more

Simply put they are the Ritz-Carlton of rehabilitation and long-term care facilities! That's the experience that my brother myself and our Mom have had with the amazing staff at Oakbrook Care as they have nurtured Mom after her hip fracture. My experience with rehabilitation facilities, includes 4 in the Annapolis Md area that cared for my clients ( I work with elderly people some with dementia) and friends and families. In Illinois (decades ago) I worked in several facilities that cared for disabled people and I also had experience with two long-term care facilities when my grandfather was alive. Much has changed in this field, and with Oakbrook Care I see such attention to detail and dignity for their clients, residents and staff ...it's overwhelming at times. Two months after moms initial acceptance for subacute rehab ( she is now blessed to be part of the memory care - called Garden View - and lives full time at OBC ) and it still brings tears to my eyes when I tell people about the facility my mother now lives in. My brother and I have a sense of peace about Mom that we haven't had for years as Mom is well loved and protected at OBC. Mom likes it too ! Sheets changed daily, two lovely gardens, a quiet library, excellent safety protocols, much smaller staff that really gets to know the residents in memory care. In addition staff like Norman, Maggie and Keisha all three who almost walk on water.... Is it prefect? No, but Mom isn't perfect either and I love her! I suggest families continue to respect and thank the hardworking caring staff and still diligently advocate when issues need addressing. Honoring our parents can be difficult but it very worthwhile and offers special blessings. With Oakbrook Care our family hit the triple crown of Subacute rehab facilities, and long-term care skilled facilities with memory care once Mom was accepted in the memory care unit. The staff here is cheerful, caring and competent. An elder relative recently stayed here for respite care while waiting to be placed in an assisted living facility. The rooms and social areas are very clean and it was good to see some of the elderly residents out of their rooms in their wheelchairs. The rehab team was competent. A big thank you to Meliha for your positive and cheery attitude! The place is just shy of $300.00 per day and the patient's room was rather beat up with a clean but old quilt on the very nicked bed. The sitting chair in the room was very worn and looked like something you'd see in the alley to be thrown out. Everything was dinky, including the bedside table. The patient rooms need to be updated for that kind of money. Recommend for a short stay *** read more

Despite the great therapists, they are understaffed and negligent. My husband was on a feeding tube so relied on the staff for all nutrition as well as hydration. On at least 5 occasions during his 10 day stay, they neglected to feed him or give him liquids. This resulted in Total dehydration as well as Renal failure. Do not send your loved ones there unless you can be with them everyday. read more

While we were pleased with the level of care at Oak Brook Health Care/Rehab, especially at the beginning, we did have some issues. When our dad was first admitted, the nurses and aides were very attentive. As weeks passed (by no means was he significantly more mobile), the response times got longer and longer. At no point did we ever receive progress updates from therapy until the very end when we complained that they were releasing him too soon to go home. He was a fall risk and his doctor even stepped in confirming in-facility therapy and care would be beneficial. Our biggest issue was with the two social workers that were supposed to help us with discharge and transitioning back into the home. I would speak with one of them and make an appointment or ask for information and the other would call me a day later and have no idea I had spoken to the other social worker. They were terrible communicating with us and each other. Several times I asked them to help us locate respite facilities and they never got back to us. My word of advice is to know what insurance covers, know that these facilities may try to push you out before you're ready and although the therapy was satisfactory, the front office is run by kids just out of college who hold your loved one's wellbeing and safety in the palm of their hand and they are pretty darn clueless and, well, dumb. read more

I would not recommend. My Mom was there after hip replacement and it was not good at all. She got very little therapy, nurse took her dressings off when my Mom specifically said that's not what her doctor said and a doctor gave her wrong advice on wearing compression machine. We could not get her home fast enough. read more

At first, we thought the place was great. But the longer she stayed here, the worse her care got. And the worse her health got. My grandmother was staying here because she's got the beginning signs of Alzheimers. There was more than one occasion that we went to visit and her oxygen tank was totally empty. Another time, she was clearly over medicated and was sleeping for two days. There was always dried food around her mouth, you'd hit the button for a nurse and minutes later, someone would casually walk into the room. Thank God there was never an emergency. They also never came to her room to get her for group activities like movie night or bingo. So my poor grandmother sat alone in her room unless one of us was there visiting. Good thing we visited a lot. The only nice things I can say is that the ambiance is nice, there is a pretty bird cage when you walk in and the girls at the front desk are always sweet & helpful.. The ONLY reason that this place is getting two stars instead of one! If you love your family, don't ever make them stay here. And if you MUST, make sure you stay on top of every little thing!! This place is TOTALLY amazing! We chose Oak Brook Care when my aunt needed short-term rehab after a two-week hospital stay for the simple reason that no other place we toured came close to it. The others were the same-old, same-old: tiny rooms, depressing atmosphere. But this one? It seemed more like a spa than a rehab center! We loved the Town Square and especially, the therapy room because of the huge windows showcasing all the greenery. My husband even remarked that the therapy room reminded him of the exercise room when we were on a cruise. Her care couldn't have been better. People were very friendly-- to her and to us. Everyone, from the therapists to the nurses to the receptionist had an incredibly helpful and informed attitude. When my aunt went into Oak Brook, she seemed lethargic and but one week later, we could already see measurable progress and she even had made a couple of friends! My aunt got therapy every day and her physical therapists weren't like drill instructors; they were just so tremendously supportive. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great rehab experience! read more

Stay as far away from this place as you can as it's certainly not for the faint of heart. I have no idea how they got a 5 star rating. The food is fair at best. The rooms are depressing and most of them have an extremely poor view out the windows. Some of the staff is good but most of them are far from it. The majority of the nurses just want to pass out pills and do nothing else. Expect to wait at least a half hour to an hour for an aide to answer the call light. The aides do not help each other at all. If you're old and vulnerable? They will take advantage of you and just leave you without help. They know older people are afraid to say anything because they are afraid of repercussions and then getting even less help. They will do as little as possible for you. I couldn't figure out why my loved ones' hair looked so horrible = it looked wet but wasn't. It turns out the aide would just rub it with a wet washcloth and the dispenser soap; she would not use the shampoo that I brought or rinse out the dispenser soap. Her hair was absolutely FILTHY. During a Covid surge I routinely saw administrators without masks on. I had to go back over there at night several times to fix problems of neglect. I was there every single day to try to make sure care was being given. They're fine when you're there and neglectful when you're not. They're too lazy to help patients up at night to go to the bathroom and they won't even put them on a bedpan. They just let them lay in a wet diaper. My love one got diaper rash because of it! The one and only bright spot is the PT, OT, Speech Department. They are phenomenal. They are well aware of the issues outside of their gym and are powerless to do anything about it. They tell people to report the problems to the administrators...............who do absolutely nothing with the complaint. NOTHING. read more

My mother was poorly treated she developed bed sores on her back and both heels. Before physical therapy began an X-ray of her hip showed the surgery had failed. The facility never looked at the X-ray and forced her to walk for three weeks on this failed hip and heavily medicated her with pain meds and told her she was not trying hard enough. Please don't take anyone you love and care about to this facility. The staff is untrained and the management overview is allowing the mistreatment of helpless elderly people. This facility should be shut down. our family finally forced them to re-xray her hip and discovered that the first and second X-ray showed the failed hip. We took her to Hinsdale orthpics and then to Marion Joy in Wheaton. I can highly recomended Marion Joy. read more

My dad was discharged from the hospital to OBC after a fall. The social worker at the hospital referred us here, and all I can say is this place is tragic. There is zero continuity of care, and from one minute to the next, no one knew anything about my dad, his case, or his orders. The care and attention here was poor at best, the staff was ambivalent and uninformed. My dad's health significantly degraded during the few days he was here, and ended up back in the hospital with pneumonia. If your loved one needs any level of care or attention, I would not send them here. IDK if there's any better place, but I couldn't imagine anywhere worse. read more

My mother lived at Oak Brook Care for 5 years and we are grateful to the staff. She was in the Rehabilitation program, then nursing care, then in Memory Care. The Rehabilitation area was beautiful and much less impersonal than other centers in the area. The downstairs care for dementia is very well run by Norman. The care team had high standards and listened to our family. They were kind to my mother and were serious about finding ways to solve problems--to increase her calorie intake and encourage her to take her medicines or make her comfortable in her wheelchair. Their expertise was effective and comforting. They collaborated seamlessly with hospice, too, and supported us through our final vigil. Our family had a room to ourselves and they kept checking to make sure we had food and drink. Members of the staff came by to say good-bye to Mom. I felt supported by a Community during a very difficult time and believe that she was well-cared for and treated respectfully as an individual during her final years. read more

My dad went there for physical therapy after a hospital stay. He needed to regain strength after being in the hospital for a week. He had a catheter due to his illness. He died three weeks later due to septic shock. While I was not aware that a blocked bladder could cause septic shock the staff there should know. We went on New Year's Eve to spend the day with him. His was very sleepy and slept most of the morning. In the afternoon they took him for physical therapy. While there I told the therapist that he did not seem like himself. They checked his blood pressure and it was very low. And he also needed oxygen. He was taken back to his room. All day his catheter bag was empty and we thought it was because he had been sleeping and not drinking much. The doctor came and told us that we can take him to the hospital or they could keep him comfortable but if we wanted him to go to the hospital to make that decision within the hour. At no point did he mention sepsis or the fact that his bag was empty. We took him to the hospital and he died a day and a half later. His bladder was full of urine which caused his infection. If the staff had been properly monitoring his catheter bag and made us aware of the risk of infection this would not have happened. At the very least we could have gotten him to the hospital much sooner. read more

It's definitely a place better than the amount of other places we refuse to be in. They have a huge and lovely birdcage inside. They also have a library room and cafe. However, I found that some nurses, especially on the more sickly wing, can be very ignorant and not kind to loved ones. The nurses also sometimes take too much time to get to the room which can be too little to late when you have to go to the bathroom. By the time they get there, your loved one has already gone to the bathroom in their pants and has been sitting in their own feces for quite some time. The parking is horrid. The desk who answers phones do not attempt to help to connect to the room. I was even given the excuse that they were busy which should not be an excuse to tell someone. Instead they should be more helpful. With all that being said, this place can be much better than most other options if the one you want is unavailable, this is the next best option in the area. read more

My sister in law was in a major car accident and left with severe physical deficits. Oakbrook therapy not only got her up for the first time but she is now living on her own, something we never thought would happen again. They are wonderful. read more
