However I think I took for granted just how lovely my LQS is until I started participating in the "All Texas Shop Hop" and experienced OTHER shops that I realized just how much of a gem we have. Fabric and Notion Selection at Poppy's is really great without being overwhelming. On the fabric side, I think there's a good balance between the blenders, batiks, and other quilting fabric compared to other stores I visited that were extremely heavy in only one type. Everything at Poppy's is of the highest quality so you can feel confident that it's money well spent. I've taken a few classes that were all taught by a true experts and artisans. I especially appreciate the Michelle is considerate of the variety in clientele, offering most classes both during the week as well as weekends. I love how every time you walk into Poppy's, you are greeted with a smile and a welcome. Look, I know that every time the bell rings the "Welcome to Poppy's" phrase is said loud and proud... and yet, I still feel like they are truly welcoming ME in. As a person instead of just another customer or worse, an interruption.

After class they are always happy, encouraged and excited about coming back. We continue to choose Arts Avenue because we know the teachers genuinely care about our girls and provide a loving and encouraging environment for them to learn and grow in dance. This year we have classes with Ms. Kate and Ms. Alex. Ms. Kate is highly qualified with a B.F.A. degree in dance and choreography with many years of professional experience in those areas. She is always kind and patient, but encourages setting goals and challenging her students to grow in their skills. Besides directing the company team (which has been winning lots of competition awards), Kate has choreographed beautiful ballets for the Arts Avenue team performances the past two years. Ms. Alex is currently pursing a degree at Southwestern University with a minor in dance where she is also the Pom Squad Captain. Ms. Alex loves many genres of dance from ballet to hip hop and makes her classes really fun. She is always kind and fun but is also very organized with lesson plans and goals to encourage her students to grow in skills. This year she even organized a fun Pom Camp for the kids with Southwestern University and they were able to perform for the university basketball game. As long as our girls continue to love their teachers and grow in their skills, we will continue to highly recommend Arts Avenue!

Those details--rehearsal schedules, dates, and location--were never communicated. When we asked for clarification, we were told the studio was still working through the details, which is unacceptable given that families had already paid. To make matters worse, the studio attempted to attribute the confusion to my child rather than taking accountability for their lack of communication. It also became clear that the studio prioritizes its competition team, while other students receive significantly less organization and preparation--despite paying for recital participation and costumes. We expected a much higher level of professionalism and transparency.

She was in FULL meltdown mode and it wasn't fun!! Fast forward to this summer and not only did she have an INCREDIBLE season, she's now doing a SOLO for the upcoming season! We're in absolute awe of how much she's grown in just 3 years of dancing, and we have TDA to thank for that! I also take (adult) classes at TDA and it's been wonderful for my mental and physical health! This really is our safe space and we wouldn't change it for anything. We're actually having dance withdrawals...we can't wait for the season to start! Thank you, TDA!

Being very shy, and sometimes socially challenged, we have seen her come out of her shell and truly show a love and joy for dancing as well as her teachers and classmates. For the first time ever she asked to choreograph a dance for a school PTA competition. Thank you TDA and Ballet Academy North helping her express herself through dance

OOTK has been life-changing for our family. Given that everyone in our immediate family is…read moreneurodivergent, we are well-acquainted with the contentious history of ABA and the associated social stigmas related to autism. We were determined to ensure that our child did not face the challenges we encountered growing up--lack of support and the absence of essential tools and skills for self-empowerment and autonomy. Before choosing OOTK, we consulted with fellow parents in the Autism community and those at our child's school. After attending OOTK's open house, the therapists and An left a lasting impression, leading us to join their waiting list, aware that it might take six months or more. Our past negative experiences with ABA facilities, overly focused on behavioral conditioning and token use, prompted us to seek better support that aligned with our child's strengths, pro-Autism advocacy (not that Autism Speaks bullshit) and employing more empathetic communication methods Ultimately, we selected OOTK because they aligned with our stance on Autism. During our child's time there, they communicated with us only when necessary, conducted regular productive check-ins, and collaborated closely with us and the school to ensure our child's success. Our goal was for our child to acquire life skills, cope with challenges, and communicate effectively, irrespective of being autistic or nonverbal. Witnessing our child evolve from a quiet presence to a sassy chatterbox speaking in full sentences amazed us. OOTK's staff consistently displayed understanding, empathy, and professionalism, contributing significantly to our child's remarkable progress. Thank you for being a transformative influence in our child's life and for the invaluable support you've provided to our family. Our child, like any other, experiences both good and challenging days. The ability to communicate and understand the importance of compassion has been a crucial lesson, teaching them resilience even in the face of setbacks. Thank you so much. I'm really sad that we had to say goodbye after they graduated, but we are forever grateful for your support and the friendships we've made!

Now I wonder if some of it was just my daughter making some of the progress on her own. The owner (An) does not keep track of the kids case workers. We have talked to her about my daughters (Jenny was her case workers name) and she would say, "I don't keep track of the kids, I just leave it to the case manager" (how professional...) Jenny was absolutely terrible. She would email me always going on and on about how my daughter did this and that wrong. Even texting me inconveniently about how my daughter is fussy or constipated. I would be at work and they'd be texting me about it. I eventually had to email her telling her to stop messaging me negative statements about my daughter. Jenny decided she wanted my daughter to have ABA classes at HOME! Apparently she and other people at OOTKS had been "thinking about it for a long time", but only decided to talk to us about it when I was 4 WEEKS AWAY FROM GIVING BIRTH TO MY SON! When my mom called and confronted her about why she was kicking my kid out of the program, Jenny couldn't come up with anything but constipation issues was the reason. We told An we did not want Jenny to work with my daughter. Only a few days later we were informed JENNY WAS WORKING WITH MY DAUGHTER AFTER WE ASKED AN NOT TO AND SHE AGREED SHE WOULD NOT HAVE JENNY WORK WITH MY CHILD! We would also get multiple calls about my child having a fever & "needed to go home". When I would pick her up, let her play & take her temperature again, she was normal temperature, even playing normally. Not sure if something is wrong with their thermometers or if they just didn't want her there. We eventually left cause we felt they didn't want my daughter there and have now found a place where my daughter is thriving & enjoys. She leaves that place with a smile (unlike this place).
