We were out and about visiting our moms for the upcoming Mother's Day, and had a stop here at St. John-St. Joseph's. This cemetery is very old, easily over 100 years, and is very well kept up. The grass is always mowed, and weeds don't run rampant around here. Also, the groundskeepers do an excellent job of righting any headstones that get too far off kilter. I like the fact that they let you visit and plant perennials or annuals at your gravesite. They don't guarantee anything, but you are welcome to try. Water is available at many spigots around the property to help you get plants settled in. I never worked with the property staff, and so cannot comment on same, but it is run by the Gary Diocese and I suspect run very well. Beautiful grounds and grounds-keeping ... recommended when you have loved ones in need.

The staff was great to deal with and everything the day of services/burial went without a hitch. I'll be back here time and time again when l want to say hi to my family and pay my respects.

After several calls on Monday I was finally told that the ground crew thought base was sinking and was repairing that. No one in office initially had any idea of what was going on nor did anyone bother to call to let us know about this. When I went back to check, the area over my recently deceased mother's grave was covered in weeds and no sod. But the tombstone had reappeared.

From the moment we sat down with Dan to make the arrangements, we immediately felt comfortable and supported. Dan guided us through everything with compassion and expertise. He was incredibly knowledgeable about my father's military benefits -- something we hadn't even thought about -- and he even went with us to the cemetery to help with those arrangements. Dan also coordinated the church services and luncheon, taking so much off our shoulders during an overwhelming time. The wake and funeral services were truly beautiful. The facility is clean, modern, and very well-kept. The staff was wonderful, and the slideshow they created was absolutely beautiful. Even a week later, when I returned to pick up the death certificates, the kindness and care from the staff remained just as genuine. It's heartbreaking that we needed these services, but I am so grateful that we chose Lawn Funeral Home. They made an incredibly devastating time as smooth and comforting as possible.

Good Shepherd is a relatively new Catholic cemetery...about 12 years old...and one of dozens located in the greater Chicago Archdiocese. When your family has need for these services, Good Shepherd is a wonderful place to utilize. They have arrangements for in-ground burial in select gravesites (with lawn level markers or upright monuments), or above-ground accommodations in their garden mausoleum crypts (which come in singles and doubles). The grounds are spectacular and very welcoming for visiting your loved ones. Good Shepherd, like the other Catholic cemeteries, also provides packages so you can have everything prepared for the future...this takes a lot of the pressure off those you leave behind. Any way you handle your affairs, Good Shepherd can work with you on all the arrangements, either before you need them or at the time of need. We were very impressed with the grounds, options, and the staff in the office.

Ah.... St. Michael's Cemetery... how it brings back the memories…read more... This is usually a nice, quiet cemetery - with a little effort you can block out the roar of traffic ripping down Rt. 30 As you walk, the earth here is powdery and loose, so very soft and muffling all footsteps. The graves are laid out in fairly neat little rows, and some of the headstones are actually quite old for this part of Indiana - dating back to the 1880's. Quite a few of the monuments are obelisks, some rounded and old, a few are of nearly shapeless lambs. A creepy faux - cave masoleum is here too. If you go up to it, look through the dusty bars, you will see a plaster figure of Jebus kneeling. Further inside, on display, is a casket of some long dead priest. There's a religious grotto here also, across the parking lot from the old church. Here, the virgin Mary is locked up behind bars, her paint chipping. Some times candles or offerings are left down there.... Mainly I just remember my school day's at St. Mike's when we'd kick the dodge balls into that grotto at recess and then sneaked down there to get freaked out while retrieving the ball. It's a wistful kind of feeling, this cemetery, and a fun place to play "Ghost in the Graveyard"

We were a bit jammed upon entering to view a loved one who had been pretty popular, but the funeral home did what it could to move people through. Nice location and the staff were very helpful. No complaints - and located near Crown Point/Munster area right off Indianapolis Avenue. Parking lot is pretty small, so you may want to go early.

A member of our extended family had passed away, and this was the cemetery chosen by the family for her final resting place. The facility had all that the family needed for a respectful and dignified service, starting with the little chapel near the entrance for the final blessing. If you're ever in need of services at a Catholic Cemetery on the far south side of Chicagoland, this is one you should consider.
