Lawn Funeral Home - Signage for 159th Street facility

Lawn Funeral Home

Lawn Funeral Homes...4 1/2 stars for the 159th Street Orland Park facility and 5 stars for the…read more179th Street Tinley Park parlor...while it feels a bit ghoulish rating funeral homes, let's give this a try. There seems to be a bit of a facilities competition with regard to funeral homes in the far southwest suburbs of Chicago. Around Orland Park, it is the Sheehy family (Sheehy Funeral Home on 151st Street) and the Jarka family (Lawn Funeral Homes on 159th Street and 179th Street). The Lawn Funeral Home on 159th Street has been there for years...it is a very nice facility run by Mike Jarka (son of the founder). While the facility is ever so slightly dated in appearance, the Jarka family certainly serves its people with wonderful respect and dignity. Recommended. Sometime after the Lawn Funeral Home located on 159th Street, the Sheehy family built one of its parlors on 151st Street and it is a knock out. It raised the bar on facilities, seeming more like an actual home than a funeral parlor. Great service and consideration. Also recommended. Subsequent to that, the Jarka family built another Lawn Funeral Home (the name Lawn comes from its first in Oak Lawn), this one on 179th Street in Tinley Park (run by another son - Don Jr.)...and this one sets a new high for the competition. Located at the corner of 94th Avenue and 179th Street, the new Lawn Funeral Parlor is large and roomy. While they provide all the usual services with dignity and respect, the facility itself is a real seller. Two large rooms...which can be split into smaller rooms - accompanied with separate kitchen/breakout rooms for the families - can seat scores of family and friends. The facilities are new and very updated...so much so that I heard someone say..."Hey, when it's my turn bring me here." All in all, you can't go wrong with any of these facilities, but the new Lawn Funeral Home parlor on 179th Street really sticks out from the competition. Highly recommended.

Took the time to answer all our questions and made us feel that any issues that came up would be taken care of immediately. They checked up on our family throughout the time we were there. I would highly recommend them.

Orland Funeral Home - Lovely resting area

Orland Funeral Home

Our experience with this funeral home was extremely disappointing during one of the most difficult…read moretimes our family has ever faced. We informed Funeral Director Alicia Jacklin multiple times about incorrect information on both the obituary and the death certificate. Despite these notifications, the death certificate was still submitted with errors and missing information. We were also told that we would be contacted when the death certificate arrived, but no one ever reached out. After waiting several days, we called and were met with the dismissive response, "We already gave it to you," when in fact what we had received was only the cremation permit. Throughout the process, whenever we called with questions or concerns, we were repeatedly told, "I'll get back to you; we're busy helping other families." We understand that every family deserves attention and care, but that should not be used as a reason to neglect existing clients or fail to follow through on commitments. Losing a loved one is one of the hardest experiences a family can endure. The lack of attention to detail, poor communication, and apparent indifference we encountered only added to our stress and grief. This was once a place where families felt cared for and treated like family themselves. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. We felt as though the focus was always on the next person walking through the door rather than on providing the support and service we were promised. Based on our experience, we would not use or recommend this funeral home in the future.

They even go so far as to charge $600 "cleaning fee" for the use of the kitchen, lounge area. I've arranged and paid for services here under the Zimmerman and Sandeman ownership previously, the latest in 1998 for my mother's services, and it was a much better, warmer experience than when I had to arrange for my wife's services in 2017. I've instructed my children that, for my services, hopefully a long time off, to look into Modell Funeral in Homer Glen, family owned & operated for over 60 years. Enough said!

This funeral home is an absolute disgrace. The owner is culturally incompetent, hostile, and…read morebelligerent, particularly toward families of color. At no point was there compassion, professionalism, or basic human decency. Even during the ceremony, multiple guests felt and witnessed the owner's cold, dismissive behavior, which was deeply inappropriate and hurtful. They withhold critical information, refuse to explain how their facility operates, and behave as though grieving families are not entitled to transparency or respect. When families ask reasonable questions or advocate for themselves, they are intimidated, threatened, and spoken to aggressively. This is not care--it is control. Our loved one's body was mishandled, and we were denied the right to see him, as if this funeral home believed they had ownership over his body rather than understanding the sacred responsibility entrusted to them. This decision alone caused irreparable emotional harm to our family. The facility felt unsanitary, disorganized, and unsafe, raising serious concerns about hygiene, health standards, and basic compliance. Nothing about this environment felt dignified or respectful. What was clear is that this establishment is predatory--they will squeeze every possible dollar out of grieving families, exploiting pain for profit. This funeral home creates trauma instead of providing care. They add suffering to families already experiencing unimaginable loss. Their behavior is unethical, harmful, and completely unacceptable. During the ceremony, instead of checking in with all family members, they only acknowledged those who "hired" them--directly contradicting what they advertise on their own website. I strongly warn everyone--especially families of color--to stay far away from this establishment. They should be reported immediately to the health department, state licensing boards, and consumer protection agencies for their conduct, conditions, and treatment of grieving families. No one deserves to be verbally abused, silenced, or retraumatized while trying to lay their loved one to rest. This establishment needs to learn how to treat and speak to all family members with dignity and respect. They are also deleting post from their google review to hide their despicable treatment.
