Perfect for a walk in some cooler weather on the hotter summer days. Put your feet in the freezing cold river for a refresher. It didn't look very big to me from the map view but it's a good size to drive around before picking a good spot. Parking is cash only put in an envelope outside the park. Watch out for snakes! If you are in the area and are unsure of going, this is your sign saying to go. I almost didn't and now that I know what it's like out there, I would have regretted it sooo bad if I didn't go. It's truly so beautiful and peaceful.

Not too far outside of the St. George area, you'll find an entirely different terrain-no longer the…read morered rocks and dirt, but tall, lush trees, a stream and a respectable sized reservoir. This is Pine Valley-located in Dixie National Forest (yes, there's a fee-$8 per vehicle). There are picnic areas and space for fishing. At the guard station, there's a handwritten sign telling visitors not to be a "fishnicker"....I inquired about this new word and learned that it's a person who comes to fish but parks their vehicle in a picnic spot, making it unavailable for people who want to picnic there. Makes sense-if you're here to fish, park in the fishing area and leave the picnic tables to people who will use them. There are several walking/hiking trails and they are beautiful! We did the Santa Clara River Walkway which was an easy walk through the trees with pretty views. There's plenty of available parking at the trailhead and clean bathrooms before you start your hike.

Not sure if that was the best way or not. The parking lot is not huge, and you can't park in the designated camping area spots. There are plenty of picnic tables, probably more than parking spaces. There are at least 20 tables there. There are a few trails to choose from. Very close the parking and campsites is a short 1/4 hike (or shorter) to the dinosaur prints. There is a hike in the other direction to the mini waterfall and pond. Probably about a mile or a little over a mile (1direction). We also found an old almost petrified bristlecone tree (that was neat). We got lucky with the weather for Dec, it was probably about 60 degrees and very nice. I saw that in the summer it can be over 110 so I am glad that we got the nice weather. The red /orange scenery is spectacular and representative of the area, like it is at zion, bryce, snow canyon, pioneer park, etc. We enjoyed a picnic lunch there, and we had a blue bird, a scrub jay, come join us and beg for food. The trailhead is located at the campground, which is about 5 miles down the paved road. GPS Coordinates: 37.224794, -113.406300 It is $5 to park your car here in the parking lot, follow directions to the trail. It is a beautiful and easy hike - until the very end. it meanders along a path - then at the end you need to climb some pretty big rocks to see the payoff of the beautiful canyon. We loved this hike. (but were thrown off by the Yelp directions that sent us in an alternate direction.

Kolob Canyons as part of Zion National Park is an underrated gem much less visited than The Narrows…read morein Zion. It's located about an hour north of the main park entrance, off the highway on the way to Cedar City. An admission fee is required to enter this area of the park. We arrived around 8:30am and there were only several cars in front of the visitor center. We checked in with our national park passes and started the 5-mile scenic drive up to the top of the mountain. There's are many pullouts along the road to take pictures and see the beautiful views. A circular parking lot is at the summit with vault restrooms and a nice view of the Kolob Canyons. The secret here is to hike the 0.5 mile trail with the trailhead at the parking lot. The hike has a little elevation, but a 76-year old in our party was able to hike all the way. The views at the end of the trail are phenomenal and worth the trip. We spent a lot of time here taking pictures and soaking up the sights. We could see far into the horizon, past the mountains into Arizona on a clear day. For me, visiting Kolob Canyons was my favorite and most memorable part of my Utah trip. The crowds here are nearly nonexistent, though parking at the top of the mountain can get full. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend adding Kolob Canyons to your itinerary!

This is a nice state park with friendly staff and clean facilities. Depending on what side you're on, you get closer access to the modern restrooms with showers. The other side will just have restrooms. But either way, these are excellent amenities and exactly what you need after a long day of hiking. In addition, the park itself has some recreational activities available and is located on a scenic reservoir. Very good state park.

First off, if you're on the fence about going, DO IT! This is a beautiful summer campground, we went June 8-10, 2018 and the weather was perfect. It did get a little cold at night, but nothing that our sleeping bags couldn't handle. The campgrounds here aren't too close together which I really appreciated, but some campsites are more shaded than others. I stayed in B loop, site #48 and it was conveniently located close to the restrooms (which are kept very clean) and the campground host, who sell firewood. People here were very respectful of the quiet hours which start at 10. Keep in mind that there are no showers at this campsite. Also, the picnic table and fire ring are on concrete which I loved SO much and it even comes with a stand for your portable stove and a place to hang your lantern. The campsite also has tent pads that they have leveled out which made sleeping very comfortable. However, the one thing I do regret is not bringing a hammock!! There are lots of trees here. This place is also walking distance to a small lake where you can go fishing and a short 4 mike drive to Duck Creek Village, which has a convenience store, small restaurants, and souvenir shops.

Even though we only stayed one night, the host had our name accurately filled out when we arrived (our other sites had old information and never changed it. Not that this is a big deal, but it was an extra detail showing the care for the site). Navajo Lake nearby is AMAZING and there is plenty to do if you plan ahead. We will definitely be back!

Not sure what the big hype is here. This is a man made reservoir surrounded by lots of red rocks…read moreand sand. I have driven by plenty of times but never stopped. They do have a beach and offer boating rentals, fishing, swimming and off roading. It seems to be a popular place for some people, but I think I can pass on hanging out here. I prefer a genuine lake created by nature.

He suggested my friend and I relax (after our hike) and let us use the porta potty, which was purple and was "clean" as far as porta pottys go! Anyway, because of that...I decided the next time I went back I would order a snack, I'm all about supporting local businesses, especially in small towns! Fast forward this summer...I brought two friends hiking and the three of us stopped to have snow cones! Now, I haven't had a snow cone in years...so, it was somewhat nostalgic and fun with all the creative names they have. They were good but more up my kids alley than mine, as I'm older, I've limited my intake of sugar. Now if there was a variety of "Margarita" snow cones, I'd be ALL IN!! LOL Bottom line: the proprietors here are great people with lots of knowledge about the area and it's a refreshing treat for you and or the kiddos to have something cold and tasty on a hot day!
