The site was a gravel base which was nice but, the electric outlet was way in the back and the water spicket was way in the front, on the wrong side. I've never seen a site set up like that before. It was very tricky getting the RV in just the right spot so that electric cord would reach, but I couldn't get the hose to reach so I ended up borrowing a hose extension.

The grounds are very well maintained and they have pump out service for a small fee (if you get a site that doesn't have septic) and RV service and repair. They installed our new air conditioner and did a fantastic job. They also have fun events here. We will be staying here every time we come to Ohio. Don't be fooled by a poor review. I stay at a lot of these business class hotels around the country so based on the rate and…read moreaccommodations here I will compare it to the Hyatt Place and Marriott Courtyard. I stayed here for 2 nights while visiting an old friend who is a native and long term-resident of Urbana. In sum, staying here is better than a Comfort Inn, Motel 6, or Quality Inn, but not as nice as a Hyatt Place or Marriott Courtyard but they are charging the same rate: 1. It was fine for 2 nights--I really would not want to stay here much longer and if I return to Urbana would look for another place to stay unless their rates were significantly reduced. . 2. Upon check-in and during the stay my interaction with staff was fine--they were not overly welcoming when I arrived, but not super-friendly either. 3. Overall, the room was pretty clean, but I did find one errant hair in the shower and the the shower curtains had a little bit of dark at the bottom edges? A little dirty? 3a. The room was set up for efficiency which I liked a lot. 4. The main problem in the room was the shower operations--during three showers--one of them at 2 am when presumably few are using the hotel water, it was impossible to get the shower temperature to stay on my setting--it kept on going to hot or cold and required constant adjustment during the shower. 5. Most of the towels were good quality, but a few I had to set aside because of too much wear. They graciously gave me extra towels at the desk and I liked that. 5a. They do not make up or clean your room until the 3rd night unless you ask and I did not need it on this stay. 6. I did like that they had shower soap bars as I cannot properly clean with the liquid. 6a. The toilet seat is the very thin plastic type that when you lean a bit to one side snaps off the bowl edge like you are going to fall off if you know what I mean? You have to maintain your balance on the seat to prevent that from happening. 7. The King mattress was comfortable enough for a couple or nights, but not one I would sleep on full time at home. Same with the pillows--fine for 2 nights. 8. I am used to a heavier down comforter, and theirs was a bit thin for me, but fine for 2 nights. 9. The place seemed safe, in a safe area of town--definitely get out and see the downtown Urbana--they have some good restaurants and antique stores--great to walk around and meet the locals like I did. 10. The real fall-down at this hotel at this price range is the free breakfast--it's awful--it's the 2nd worst I have seen at a free breakfast hotel in 20 years. Plan on going into town for your breakfast--there are some good places. At this price point--this breakfast should have been much much better and comprehensive. In sum, no one is going to have a bad stay at this hotel, but no one is going to have a great stay at this hotel. It's mid-range, mediocre due to all the things I listed above. It's a $100 a night hotel in 2024 prices, charging much more than that like it's a Hyatt or Marriott, so it's over-valued--especially with such a poor breakfast. Sorry that I could not file a better a report because I liked Urbana a lot.

What a GORGEOUS bed and breakfast, about halfway between Dayton and Columbus, Ohio…read more The Hopkins House - once belonging to the famous painter and former OSU fine arts dean James Hopkins - sits on a charming 200 acre farm in Mechanicsburg, aka the Middle of Nowhere. The house itself... was designed by a ten year old boy. WHAAAAAT. When the original property burned down in 1902, I guess James' brother, Harold, was given the task of sketching out the house. The quirks of a child are apparent in the lacking uniformity and convention of the property - oddly placed windows, no two of which are the same size. A secret desk/workspace. Cute. Prints of artwork of James and wife Edna are scattered throughout the house, along with one original work displayed prominently in the living room. There are a lot of books and scrapbooks strewn throughout. Very interesting stuff for art or history lovers or just the curious. I learned a lot about the history of the house, Mechanicsburg and the Hopkins family in part from what fun young owner Amanda told us when we arrived and toured, in part from books and scrapbooks of history scattered throughout, but mostly from the morning of our stay when I learned so much detail from Amanda's father, who has worked on the farm since he was a child and was friendly with the family. It was so great to hear first-person stories in the house where they happened. There are five bedrooms, each with very different own charm and decor. My favorite of which is known as the Sunrise room, appropriately decked out in cozy sun colors. When I was here, I stayed in the summer sleeping porch off of the Professor's Room and awoke to the most gorgeous sunrise. I wasn't even pissed to be awake at 7am on a Saturday :) In the morning my friends and I took a leisurely stroll around the farm before breakfast. Said hi to some moo cows, chased kitties, took pictures, enjoyed the quiet and calm of it all. Breakfast was SO good. Local eggs, sausage and potatoes seasoned with local herbs, french toast, yogurt, fresh fruit, delicious coffee and orange juice. The gorgeous tin ceiling in the dining room kept catching my eye while I was stuffing my face! I'm totally not a country person. But getting away here for one night was calming and serene. A perfect place to escape to for locals, or to visit while passing through. Rates range from $59/night up to $179/night for a suite that can sleep 6 people. Obligatory disclaimer: I totally stayed here for free. (Be jealous.)
