I am somewhat reluctant to place this review as i want to keep the oak barn to myself !!
The oak barn is set in a wonderful peaceful location in the centre of Dartmoor, easy access to the wonders of Dartmoor and a short drive from the coast.
The barn itself is just wonderful, from the moment you walk through the large oak and glass front door, the warmth and quality of finish hits you.
The barn is set over two floors with the ground floor housing the two bedrooms. The double bedroom has a four poster bed, a devine ensuite and a sauna - which from experience i can tell you is a necessity after a long walk accross the moors.
The second bedroom has twin beds, ideal for children and also has an ensuite which mirrors the ensuite in the master bedroom.
The stairs taking you upstairs have been crafted to perfection, halfway up the stairs is a large window and i spent some time watching the chickens in the garden through this, quite therpeutic !!
Upstairs is an open plan kitchen/dining room and living space.
The kitchen has every mod con you would want, a huge cooker, quality cooking implements, a dishwasher but all sit neatly in the wooden surroundings.
The living area has a large television, but for me the icing on the cake was the wood burner, it was very cold in January when we were there and the wood burner was ideal to snuggle in front of. There is a large window in the living area which overlooks a field and often we would see cows or horses at the window - you can also see Widecombe church, which looks stunning lit up at night.
Everything about this cottage screams quality and perfection and Richard (the owner) has obviously put his best effort into ensuring the cottage gives visitors an experience never to be forgotten.
Will we be going back ?? - Without a doubt, try stopping us.
Once again also visited the Ruggle for a drink and meal and as always the locals made us feel welcome and the food was fab.
Must say thankyou to Richard and Lesley (the owners of the cottage) for making our weekend so special. read more
