A lovely hideaway self catering cottage. Advertised as Boscastle but actually over ten miles away,…read morewhich was a bit of a shock to us. Also advertised as three miles from the nearest shop- again, none to be found. BUT, the cottage is gorgeous, hidden in a picture postcard garden off the beaten track with it's own private patio, complete with sun loungers and a barbecue. Inside the cottage is everything you need- cooker, microwave, tv, vacuum cleaner, and wifi. Towels and linen are included as are toilet rolls, washing up liquid. The owners live next door, so in the unlikely event you need anything, they are very accommodating. Overall, great cottage but the location needs to be advertised better. It's a great base to explore North Cornwall, but be prepared to drive!

The main benefit of this bar and restaurant is the location, it is perfectly situated for a walk along Mountbatten pier and the surrounding areas of Jennycliff. The staff in the bar are always friendly and helpful and the food, although basically pub food is always of a good standard, fairly priced and generous in portion. Well worth a visit if only for a quick drink on the way to get an ice cream at the end of the breakwater, easily accessible from the Barbican as well as this is where the water taxi lands and departs.

Ended up inside Flora Poste. Not sure what she is but the quotes and pictures suggested that you might find her in an unbearably tedious period drama (is there any other kind?). I suppose it was intended to be an upgrade! And the room was very very nice.I should say! The location is a good one, between the main station and the centre of town. The hotel is in a lovely old building too! The price is very good value. I guess the breakfast was a bit limited but that is generally not my priority.

From the outside, the Edwardian Guest House looks a bit naff, sorry, but it does. the blue and…read moreyellow paintwork doesn't help much, and neither, at Christmas, do the oversized coloured fairy lights. Still, inside, you pretty much get what you paid for - which is an Edwardian style B & B, for not a lot of outlay. The Edwardian offers quite impressive rooms with four poster beds and nice antique touches, for very reasonable prices, so if really retro is your thing, you'd do worse than to invest in a stay here. Breakfast is a respectable full cooked English or toast and fruit etc, unremarkable but well prepared. The staff are polite and friendly, all in all a very satisfactory service.

Location is good for Paignton - close to the sea/ocean (1-2 min walking) and to a bus station. When it comes to the small seaside town of Polperro (in Cornwall, England) the Penryn House Hotel…read moreis in the perfect spot. It's far enough up on the hill that it's easy to drive to (important because any farther down into the town and the streets become almost impossibly narrow and mostly dominated by pedestrians) yet it is also within walking distance of the many awesome things to do and see in Polperro. Another huge plus is that it boasts its own on-site parking. This may not seem like much if you are unfamiliar with Polperro, but space is very much at a premium, and most of the other bed & breakfasts in town have little or no on-site parking at all...guests have to park up at the public car park/parking lot at the top edge of town. Set back from the street, across a peaceful stream and a screen of trees, the Penryn House is the ideal retreat. We stayed in the aptly-named "best room", which had the biggest bathroom (very nice, modern, and stylish) and the bedroom was a great vantage point from which to look out at the upper part of town. After exploring Polperro on foot for most of the day, it was great to come back to the room and sit by the big windows and watch darkness descend upon this picturesque little village. The owners are extremely friendly, kind, and accomodating--everything hosts should be. It was great talking to them about the town itself, and what it was like to live there. They also provided good advice on where to eat and things to see. Guests are given a key to the front door in addition to a key to their room, so you can let yourself in if you come back late. Our only regret is that we had to leave really early in the morning and therefore missed breakfast. If I lived in the UK, this would be the type of place I'd go to for a weekend getaway. It is perfect for a quiet, relaxing, weekend, and I'd actually love to see it in the wintertime, too. This one's a keeper--I definitely want to go back.
