Been here 2 weeks and I like the friendly staff and clean equipment and plenty equipment, always available for use. I came to Santa Maria to visit family and wanted to get a workout in while I was here…read more Unfortunately, I was shocked by how run-down this gym was. The parking situation is a stretch, the machines are noticeably older, and the abs/stretching area is extremely small -- not enough space for more than a couple of people to lay down mats, especially with machines crammed into the same spot. The front desk staff were not welcoming at all. I felt like I was bothering them just by checking in and asking to use the hydro-bed. Overall, a disappointing experience. This location really needs some updates and better customer service.

Shawn gave me a call after I signed up, took the time to answer all my questions about CrossFit, and has been nothing but genuine and enthusiastic since day one. Hans is a killer coach--always positive, always pushing you to get better, and super supportive if you're ready to challenge yourself. It felt so great for someone to ask me that when I feel like I feel like I am carrying an obvious baby belly! All of the trainers are so great and helpful. I am personally very comfortable with weight lifting on my own and joined for the motivation and accountability factor. She plans out your sessions for you so you have something concrete to follow on the days that you're just working out on your own. I've definitely been pleased overall with Amy and The Bar as my first experience with personal training. In my research for personal trainers, I always felt like pricing was intentionally hidden and reviews never did much to help in that department (what the heck?). I won't break whatever unspoken rule is at play here, but I will say that it's not cheap. That being said, I do think that it's worth the money especially if you're just starting out and have no idea how to plan a workout and need that guidance.
