Certified broke da mouth! Auntie that run this food truck showed all the aloha and let me do a half/half combo plate bc I couldn't decide between the tempura and ahi katsu plate. Tempura was so crisp and ono. Ahi was so fresh and good, the way only Hawaii can do it. Hubby and I both got tastie dishes with pork. Yakisoba was just the right amount for me but if you are really hungry you may order an additional item. the cutest food truck managed by a japanese couple (I believe). they generously allowed us to get half ahi katsu and half pork katsu ($15) even though it wasn't a combo on the menu. both proteins were pretty good, although the katsu meats themselves were kind of dry inside (probably because they were so thin). we also got a matcha lilikoi kakigori/shave ice ($5) with sweet milk. maybe the condensed milk wasn't necessary as it was really sweet but the flavors were delicious. also it was raining and the staff kindly brought the food to our windows :") read more

Some of the best quick serve Japanese food I've had, period. Very simple menu, so don't expect the frills and thrills, but everything was made super fresh to order. I got the pork katsu curry which was solid, but the real star was the ahi katsu. Lightly breaded with a firm but meaty fish. The wasabi mayo it came with was the cherry on top, not the mention the fresh veggie sides. Also got the tempura shrimp and veggies which were definitely hand breaded and fried to order, not flash frozen and heated up. 10/10 recommend, worth the drive south. read more

This is a food truck up in coffee country so to speak, we tried it out for lunch while out doing the coffee tours. Note there's no inside, but they have a few picnic benches to eat at. I highly highly recommend getting the curry dish, my husband got the curry katsu and I kept trying to steal a bite. Drove by O'z after hiking Captain Cook and the shaved ice sign made us turn - we were in need of a cool treat. Really happy we took the bait! Really great service and very quick serving time! Everything that my wife and I tried was delicious! The standout was definitely for me the gyu-don! (Beef bowl). It tasted just like what I've had in Japan, so it brought out some good memories of my trips back. My wife got the curry with katsu-don and she absolutely loved it. The curry was sweet and savory and perfectly portioned! The last thing we got was the spam musubi, which my wife said it looks really cute haha. This spot hasn't been very busy dues to Covid. But now that we have opened up, it's back! Nice to see it bustling again. The food here is scrumptious with local Japanese favorites. The English menu threw me off for a moment as I am pretty used to the Japanese names for the food. Today we had the chicken and egg on rice (Oyako-don) and the Fried Chicken (Kara-age). Both come with rice, a tangy vegetable and a small scope of mash with peas. Yum.... The place was busking so we ate in our car. Otherwise, there are a few picnic tables and chairs under a tarp. It's not often you find a delicious spot that ALSO has very reasonable prices AND great service!! O'z kitchen was an incredible place to stop at after hiking up from the Captain Cook monument. For 2 hungry people we shared the large beef bowl (tender well marinated thin beef with lots of rice, pickle ginger, onion), a huge shave ice with matcha and mango with condensed milk (it even had real mango!!!), and an iced green tea (so creamy and refreshing). This whole meal was less than $20!! They have a large tented area with picnic tables to eat. Best Japanese food I've had outside of Japan (besides my mom's...who is from Tokyo)!! It was all super fresh and tasty and portions are definitely generous for the price. I had the tempura meal and couldn't believe how perfectly the shrimp were cooked. Everything was super crispy and still very delicate....and we also ordered the katsudon. The sauce was amazing...not too sweet or salty..and the meat was actually all meat and not the fatty pieces you are sometimes (unpleasantly) surprised by. This started as a "What's on your mind" post. This little bright orange food truck that quietly parks where the huli chicken and ribs BBQ sits on Thurs. & Fri. They aren't parked there on those days. Any whooo... They have such AWESOME food w/ obvious fresh ingredients. I've been there twice and was blown away both times! First time, I grabbed some California rolls. I LOVED that theirs were half the size of the usual ones you get out here w/ the same fillings but half the rice, which gave it a higher seaweed wrap to filling ratio. Great California rolls! They don't offer any other sushi. Today I tried their Katsu fish. I've never seen anything other than Katsu chicken before. They don't make that. They do make Katsu fish and Katsu pork. When I say this was the best cooked Ahi, (a type of tuna), I've ever tasted, I mean it! It came w/ a tiny bit of finely shredded cabbage topped w/ a floret of orange sauce. I had no clue what this flavor might be, but mixed it in and took a bite. I think it was some kind of reduced pickled mango sauce. A perfect blend of sweet and tangy. It paired so well w/ the cabbage. It was amazing! Now to their "tartar" sauce. It was a horse radish aioli. I LOVE horse radish! It was the perfect compliment to the Katsu fish. Their prices and portions are reasonable enough to easily feed a family on a couple shared items. The food truck is bright orange and the company's name is O's. Wherever you might see them parked, I highly recommend you try their food! They even offer fully vegetarian meals! YUM! read more

My brother and I had lunch here a few weeks ago and I was blown away by the oyako-don. So tasty and authentic - a taste of Japan available to anyone passing through Kealakekua. My husband and I stopped by here for lunch after a gorgeous morning at Ho'okena beach. The food was fantastic, per their recommendation I got the chicken and egg and my husband got the Pork Katsu with egg. Both were so delicious and the prices were great for how much food you get. Very delicious Japanese taiyaki. So good I would drive from Hilo for it LOL. I stayed on Big Island for three weeks, eating out for lunch and dinner everyday, and their taiyaki was the best food I had on the island. Custard flavor is my favorite. Ube is great, too. I didn't try anko. The initial bite reminds me of the best Hong Kong-style egg waffles, but it tastes ten times better. It is stuffed with custard filling and that is hot like Kilauea lava, so don't burn your mouth. They are at the same location as Randy's Huli Chicken. Comfy shaded tables and chairs with a good view. And with frequent Japanese customers swing by to get taiyaki, I felt like I was in Japan for a good moment. read more
