    Shepards pie

Found my new favorite bar restaurant when I am back in town! I always love the full bar, but they had Shepards pie, perfect in 20 degree winter time. Staff was so kind and attentive. They have a huge patio, with heaters so even in winter, you can enjoy the outdoor feeling.

An update: This is our new go-to for wings! We used to go to a national chain that "specializes" in wings, but post global pandemic the quality there tanked. So we tried local. We usually order carryout, and our order has been perfect every time. The designated carryout parking spots in the back make running in super convenient, too. We highly recommend the honey sriracha wings - perfect blend of heat and sweet. The Rueben is also a personal favorite.

Had an early dinner for two at Timothy O'Toole's Libertyville--great experience overall. The Pork Belly Bao Buns were fantastic, and the Little Timmy Burger with tater tots was flavorful and satisfying. The Mexi Cali Soup was interesting, but the Deviled Eggs fell short. O'Toole's Holy Water cocktail was okay but a bit too sweet. Service and ambiance were excellent. One downside--there's a 3% service charge for credit card payments, which isn't a welcome surprise, so be prepared.

Orange Chicken Sticky Rice Bowl...outstanding as was the Derby Burger.

It is a noisy place full of older customers that know everyone in the place. Lots of customers hugging the staff, talking with the owners, and other tables. A great atmosphere if you are a local. One of the owners even suggested carrot cake for our desert. Really good by the way. We did see a number of regulars tables that were receiving complimentary appetizers. I get it, but you should treat first time customers the same to make them repeat customers? The issue was with service and how we were treated after we had to get service. Our server disappeared once our main course was ordered. Yes the place was packed, but the server made sure she kept on touching base with the regulars tables and we received less attention. Well like no attention. Well like we had to go to the bar to one of the owners to get our check. Well and when my significant other tried to comment that we had a lack in service the owner walked away from us. She turned a really nice first time experience into a never going back and write a bad review experience. (And my significant other was mad the whole evening, which made the event worse for me.) So even though I wanted to at least give them a 2 star review I had to tie it back to the tip we gave of $1. Regretfully we will not be going back to The Green Room.

I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu, the staple menu item I order each time I visit. My guest ordered the Mongolian beef. My pad Thai came out visibly different than times past. It looks almost watered down and the tofu was not coated and seared with the beautiful crust it normally has. I ate it and it tasted... sour. Normally this pad Thai leans savory over sweet, but this time it just straight up tasted sour. The tofu was nothing to write home about, which is typically not the experience I have here. The Mongolian beef tasted like it had more sear on the meat than actual beef. It tasted over-charred. The rice and veggies were good, but that's kind of a simple feat. I ordered the Pomegrantate martini which was good. The space was also very hot, I understand it's a hot day and a busy restaurant but my legs were dripping in sweat the entire hour we were there. I will give them a try again, because I know from previous experiences the pad Thai was usually great. That tofu is what I keep coming back for! Hopefully next time it'll meet my expectations. This was this past weekend on Friday night.

I had heard mixed reviews on the food, so I was mentally prepared to have mediocre food. It's kind of confusing how you go about ordering food and drink because: 1) it's by person 2) it's by table 3) there are no instructions what to do except for a small sign on the table 4) none of the staff explain anything to you 5) there are three different QR codes to choose from So with so trial and error and explanations from other friends who have visited before (or arrived earlier than us). I ordered a cup of the cream of chicken soup. It came cold and I had to send it back to warm up. They brought (hopefully) a new cup of WARM soup. It wasn't much warmer than the previous bowl, so I just dealt with it. I then ordered the boneless buffalo wings. Just call them cubes of chicken as that's what they were. I ordered the soup, the cubes, potato wedges and a soda and it was $37. That's a bit steep for what I ordered. And that was just me. My wife ordered a soda and a salad and it tacked on another $30. It's pricey for what it is. If you want beer, you have to get a card and then open a tab and then select from a wall of selections. You pay by the ounce, so unless you know what you want, it can get pricey as you order an ounce of different ones to taste them. Then came the 80s trivia and there were a lot of teams for a cold Thursday night. It was a lot of fun. I believe there were prizes for the top three teams. Our two teams were not among the winners. It was a fun night out and worth checking out for fun. They have line dancing, board games, trivia nights and more served up with some traditional bar fare. And how can you pass up a place called The Parched Pug?

Great spinach dip, cheese bites, and the pizza was surprisingly delicious. It's rare that a bar pizza stands out, but I swear by this one. Really nice crisp without being too dry. Just wish there had been a bit more spinach. The Greek salad with grilled chicken was solid. Fresh ingredients, but they forgot to put the dressing on the side (even though we asked), so it came out a little overdressed. Not the end of the world, but a small miss. Originally ordered the ahi tuna poke bowl, but it came out smelling a bit off -- like something was spoiled (maybe the ginger?), so we sent it back. They handled it well and brought out a chopped salad instead. This time they did remember the dressing on the side, and it was actually great -- crispy bacon, good blue cheese, super fresh. Big recovery there. The 12hr short rib was okay. The meat itself was fine, but it came with a massive pile of mashed potatoes that were overly buttery and kind of oily. The sauce was too rich and didn't really balance the plate. Sweet potato fries (we got the half order) were a nice surprise -- hot, crispy, and lightly seasoned. I'd totally get those again. Service was friendly and they were trying hard, which we appreciated.

I had been here with my daughter about 12 years ago and remembered enjoying it then. We all had burgers and craft beer. My friends went with the Mad Max (burger of the month) and I went with a peppercorn and blue cheese burger. It was thumbs up for all of us on the burgers as well as the beer, which was unique and delicious. I took no pictures that day and just enjoyed the outing with friends, but I was especially impressed with the taste of my burger. I abstained from adding any of my usual condiments, and decided to try it as is, with just their sauce. Best decision ever! The sauce was amazing and the burger was cooked a perfect medium. Like many restaurants, Luck Monk offers their regular menu, plus flyers on their specials, including beers and cocktails. Four days later, I went right back there again on my own, to formally review it with photos. I had to go with that same peppercorn burger, because it was just so good, and to make sure the first time was a fluke. It wasn't. I tried out their chili as well, which was also good. This chef knows what he is doing. This stand alone restaurant is easy to get to, and has ample parking. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and looks high end, though I found the pricing to be reasonable. It would be a great spot to take clients for a business lunch. It's elegant looking , but unpretentious. The hostess and servers are wonderful. I highly recommend the Lucky Monk!

The restaurant sits in a tiny strip on a very cool looking street. The hostess sat us quickly to the left of the restaurant, a little strip of booth style tables. The lights above the table were not lit. Phone flashlights were needed to see the menu (old folks). Time was 5:30pm. Unsure why, but we had the bartender as our server (Fred). He was lights out! Food. I had the skirt steak. It was ok. The amount of salsa accoutrement was too much, it was the only thing on the plate and matched the length of the steak. The salsa alongside the steak you could tell was not fresh, it had a dull grayish look to it, with no fresh vibrance to it. The potatoes on the side were ok, probably more suited alongside the steak. Overall I'd say, if the middle of the Shepards Pie was cold that tells me it's not fresh made to order, and the not so fresh salsa, they just need to tighten up. I think it's very close to a top notch restaurant in a sought after neighborhood.
