A birthday party at O'Toole's of Libertyville and, on balance, would recommend it -- with one caveat for anyone booking a group. The private room we had reserved was occupied by another party when we arrived, so we were seated in the main dining room instead. It worked out, but it wasn't the setup we'd planned for, and it's worth calling the restaurant to reconfirm your room a few days before your event. Credit where it's due: once we were seated, the staff did a nice job. Service stayed attentive across a full group, food came out hot and on time, and the quality held up on every plate. The beer selection is a real draw, parking in the back lot is easy, and the downtown Libertyville location made it easy for guests to make an evening of it. Good food, good people, one booking mix-up. We'd come back. read more

Our first time at this restaurant and had lunch this afternoon. Keaton was our waiter he was great! Had knowledge about the menu and made great suggestions. The food was awesome and the French onion soup was fantastic. My understanding is everything is made from scratch. I would recommend this place as I like the atmosphere, food and service. Will definitely repeat. read more

Had a party with Nico as our server. He was wonderful, great host for us. He did a great job with all of our guests

This was my first time visiting O'Toole's in Libertyville, and overall it felt about on par with what you'd expect from a chain restaurant. The menu has a large variety of options, which I appreciated. I tried the O'Toole's original burger with fries, it was decent, though a bit pricey for what was served. The service was good; our waiter checked in on us frequently, which was especially noticeable given how busy it was. The ambiance was pleasant overall and fit the setting well. That said, it's more of a spot I'd go to for a group event rather than somewhere I'd choose to visit on my own again. read more

Found my new favorite bar restaurant when I am back in town! I always love the full bar, but they had Shepards pie, perfect in 20 degree winter time. Staff was so kind and attentive. They have a huge patio, with heaters so even in winter, you can enjoy the outdoor feeling. read more

Thank you so much to Eric and his crew at the event center upstairs. We hosted a baby shower there today and Eric was great to work with as well as his staff Scot and Jessica. The food was great, they went out of their way to make sure that we were well taken care of. I highly recommend using them for events in the future. read more

Mixed Bag making star rating difficult. 1st time for everyone. Love the decor. 5* for Staff who handled our large group wonderfully and with a smile. 3 of us ordered the Turkey Club and were not happy. Pricy and Very salty turkey lunchmeat. What happened to places cooking up a turkey, slicing it and putting it on a sandwich? This was a 2*. Beef Sandwich was 3*. Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna was really enjoyed and 4*. Hamburger was on small side and nothing special. Didn't ask others in group. I would give it another try and sit on the patio but stay away from the sandwiches. read more

Our family goes to O'Toole's in downtown Libertyville regularly. The menu has a wide range of options depending on your diet preference and hunger level and the specials are usually interesting. The kids LOVE the amazingly flexible bento boxes and fun kiddie cocktail options. O'Tool's has some of the best burgers in the area and lets you sub out various sides. Their deviled eggs are great, plus there are lots of vegetarian options. Their deviled eggs, whipped feta appetizer, and so many other vegetarian dishes are excellent. The cocktail, wine, and beer list is extensive. Every server we've had is so helpful and nice and the outdoor patio is gorgeous. Sometimes, it's nice to sit inside with all the cozy wooden surroundings. Trivia nights upstairs are a lot of fun, too. read more

So many food choices, so we decided on their Shepards Pie for this visit . . . and we were certainly not disappointed. We've been to Ireland and know a good Shepards Pie and loved their offering. Lean meat, fluffy mashed potatoes and tasty veggies made it all work. Our server (Juan) and manager Victor completed the experience. And the retractable roof patio was very welcoming as well. read more

Great craft beers on tap. Husband had Maine Beer Co's "Lunch" and I had Phase 3's Octoberfest. Delicious, and a really pleasant surprise to have such well-known local and hard to get nationally craft beers on tap. Also tried their deviled eggs (regular Boursin and Bloody Mary with bacon)...both were outstanding. Sat at the bar with a nice breeze blowing through the open doorways and a very cool adult-cocktail ambiance. Bartenders were super nice and very attentive. Will be back for sure, hidden gem. read more

An update: This is our new go-to for wings! We used to go to a national chain that "specializes" in wings, but post global pandemic the quality there tanked. So we tried local. We usually order carryout, and our order has been perfect every time. The designated carryout parking spots in the back make running in super convenient, too. We highly recommend the honey sriracha wings - perfect blend of heat and sweet. The Rueben is also a personal favorite. read more

we had our typical, steady burgers, and salad for lunch today on a beautiful day on the outdoor patio in Libertyville. Everything went very smoothly and Gladdy was our terrI tic server. Fun, clever demeanor, very attentive, despite having several other tables and very much asking the right questions on our food. Well done, Junior and Sara. Another great hire. read more

I'm a foodie and love restaurants, this place 2 years ago I would never recommend. The food is great still to this day from 2 years ago. I was told to give it another chance but when I do I go at least 3 times before posting a review. The service all 3 times was spot on Amazing. Deshawn who I come to find out is one of the managers was spot on perfect. Checking with tables around us asking if everything is ok . You don't get that kind of service anymore. Our luck we actually got the same waitress twice (Lauren) it's staff like these 2 young ladies that make the ending experience amazing. I actually at one point thought I was at the (The Greggory) eating as the food and service was spot on. The 3rd time we went to was the bar and the professionalism and great energy as well as the what I can say are professional Mixologists making drinks. read more

First experience for us - it won't be the last. Ordered the Garlic Ricotta w toast points, Harissa Chicken sandwich (both specials), and their beer of the month. All 3 were outstanding, as were the fish tacos. Very cool vibe, comfortable patio, and great service. Can't wait to go back. read more

Solid food offerings, but very noisy. I went with a group and it was really hard to carry on a conversation.

Had an early dinner for two at Timothy O'Toole's Libertyville--great experience overall. The Pork Belly Bao Buns were fantastic, and the Little Timmy Burger with tater tots was flavorful and satisfying. The Mexi Cali Soup was interesting, but the Deviled Eggs fell short. O'Toole's Holy Water cocktail was okay but a bit too sweet. Service and ambiance were excellent. One downside--there's a 3% service charge for credit card payments, which isn't a welcome surprise, so be prepared. read more

Nice restaurant and we liked the patio however we don't like that you allow dogs we are dog lovers however we just met with friends who had an experience at your restaurant that was uncomfortable and we all agreed not to return until the restaurant looks at their policy on allowing animals on the patio. i understand service dogs my be an exception. read more

Grabbing a group for a Saturday dining experience on this pseudo-winter evening and O'Toole's was the 4-top consensus. Good choice, peeps! Arrived after making a reservation on Open Table...this place was in full swing with holiday decor and frivolity/festivities. Several large parties in the separated party rooms and the bar was packed! Nicely decorated bar area and busy, happy, staff were pleasant. Holiday drink specials sounded great but this crowd opted for classic Grey Goose Martinis and local brews. Good recommendations for apps (the Reuben Eggrolls (fab!) and the healthier Mezze Platter) and beer by our cordial & efficient server, Sayre D, made for happy customers. After apps and beverages, we ordered the crispy Fish & Chips, the Shepherd's Pie, the Derby Burger--with Tots!-- and the standout Orange Chicken Sticky Rice Bowl. So the table all liked the Orange Chicken and the Blueberry BBQ-sauced Derby Burger with crispy bacon and tots, but the Fish & Chips Platter and the Shepherd's Pie missed the mark as they seemed to be lacking in flavor and pizzazz, compared to the rest of the menu. For the perfect ending some coffees and a shared decadent, gooey Cookie Skillet were ordered and enjoyed. The service staff, including the host, were on point for a busy Saturday night. The food was good and worthy of four stars. We'll be back to try some other recommendations (and ask for Sayre as our server). Use Open Table to reserve a spot on the heated, enclosed patio, or reserve an inside spot for your family party--- all sizes of parties will enjoy themselves. Enjoy the downtown Libertyville dining experience! Good to see O'Toole's are holding up. read more

This is a cool place in Libertyville which has a ton of restaurants and bars to choose from. They have a very unique covered/enclosed patio area that they open the windows for in the summer and close them up for extra seating in the winter. We were supposed to sit in this area, but our larger group could not fit out there when we went as the tables that were filled were scattered throughout the area. We sat inside and it was fine. It does get a trifle loud inside when they are busy, so I recommend going with a smaller group just so you can hear them. I was told to get the Little Timmy burger as many ordered it and said it was delicious. They had a couple burgers to choose from, but I'll have to come back with my Burger Club to truly try them. On this occasion, I got their blackened chicken sandwich and it was wonderful! Perfect amount of blackening spices and the fries were good too. I then ordered the pretzel bread pudding for dessert and got the last one. Holy Cow is this awesome. I'd come back just for that. Soooooo delicious! Service was on the spot and offered great advice on dishes. Plenty of TVs for sports and a great atmosphere for families, friends, work events and more! read more

On a summer day approaching fall, we had a lunch in O'Toole's enclosed patio. The menu is creative, taking the pub approach but with upscale tasting ambition. I had the burger with blue cheese and bacon. The toasted bread was better than the typical bun, the coleslaw was prepped creatively. But a burger? Yes, but on advice of the server, putting in a medium rare request brought a burger with the perfect pink. My companion had a pimento grilled cheese - again, carefully prepared, creative. She remarked at how good the simple fries were. read more

O'Toole's - Definitely a scratch kitchen. Definitely on a mission to deliver good food. - Gastropubs Near Me - Libertyville, Illinois

Went for a holiday work lunch and was not disappointed. Service was excellent and very accommodating, especially because not everyone arrived at the same time, and they were able to adjust . We ordered starters to share. We had the Mezze Board which was very good. The whipped feta was excellent. The nachos were a hit and everyone enjoyed them. The whipped feta was the standout. Complimented with honey and warm pita it was a great start to the meal. Our group had a variety of Rueben's, salads, and bowls. I had the teriyaki bowl with chicken. It was loaded with rice, vegetables and a sweet teriyaki sauce. Even though this is a sports bar, we did not feel we were in a bar and it was nicely decorated for the holidays. read more

I'll begin by saying they lost a full point from the start when the waiter told us they had NO draft beer due to a mechanical problem...... in deciding to come here for dinner with another couple, we pushed for this place over another choice after I saw O'Toole had Guinness and the other place didn't. My pal is a huge draft Guinness fan and all they offered us was bottles or cans and no Guinness. He then chose a canned beer only to be told they were out of that too. I thought he was going to walk out but we stayed and had an above average meal. Additionally, although we had a reservation for inside the restaurant, it was a beautiful evening and before going to a table asked if we could eat on the patio. Sorry, we were told, it's all booked....except it wasn't full and there were never fewer than 3 open tables out there the entire time we were there. My Bacon jam burger was excellent.... Great flavor, beef and well put together. The Cobb with chicken also was well enjoyed with tasty dressing. The Tiny Tim's smash was rated average and the American smash burger was anything but a smash as the bun disintegrated due to too much sauce. Our waiter was trying to be goofy/funny but did check on us several times. You'd think after the obvious disappointment in not having drafts or another selected beer they'd have comped them or tried to make amends. Although two managers stopped by to see how things were, it's hard to complain about your meal when out with new friends who gave in to your suggestion of which place to eat at...... next time we'll let our friends choose and avoid the embarrassment! read more

Wow. The French onion soup was awful. Rather than a nice consommé type broth, it was horribly salty thick, cloudy base. The Sonoma wrap had 4 or 5 chunks of overcooked chicken and at least a cup of uncooked frozen corn that made the wrap soggy on arrival and dripped clear fluid while eating. Caesar salad chicken was way over cooked. No flavor in either dish. Our server, when he did show up, was asked for lemonade had to be reminded. We had to ask two others to get the check. He showed up to show us how to press the 20% tip selection and quickly had it approved. With that tip, my lunch of soup and wrap was over $40. My friend was charged the same. $80 plus dollars for lunch that was awful with no one to approach about it. The building is beautiful. read more
