Not only did he change his billing rate without notice when I questioned where my money was going, he and his employee provided my personal info to a former high school classmate, he had paralegals perform administrative tasks but billed at his rate, he failed to respond to emails or voicemails, he told my peer I had a drug problem (never been arrested for drugs or failed a drug test), he refused to show up to court two days before trial unless I paid him a second retainer (not found anywhere in my contract), Mr. Schwartz refused to explain how he billed me for over $10k (I had previously paid him on time and in full....he billed a total of $24k for all his efforts and I'm not a rich man) for a two day period and sent a colleague to trial that I had never met prior and who had no working knowledge of my case. I know two others who used his practice and were completely dissatisfied. As a result of his decisions and lack luster effort I was reduced to state minimums after always having 50/50. Thankfully, I have since gained full custody of my daughter after hiring another attorney. This attorney charged $3,500. After several attempts to comprehend how my bill escalated so quickly I presented my issues to the Florida Bar. I was later informed by a former administrative assistant of his that I wasn't the first person to do so. She was also willing to speak on my behalf after Mr. Schwartz stated I was verbally abusive to her at one point. The bar had him return some of the money he swindled out of me and forced one of his attorneys to take a mandatory ethics class. Sadly, although the other attorney needed to take the class too, Mr. Schwartz didn't. The other attorney was one year out of law school and never acted without the instructions of Mr. Schwartz. I believe Mr. Schwartz successfully threw this attorney under the bus when he retained consule to defend him at the bar complaint. Said attorney resigned from the practice. Long story short. He is a classic example of why attorneys have a bad wrap. He doesn't care about you. Run fast and be sure you didn't leave your wallet behind.
