For example, I asked them to replace my front brakes and was expecting a typical large bill. But when I went to pick up my vehicle, they told me that they just cleaned out the brake dust and that there was plenty of pad left so no need to replace the brakes. They could have done the work and charge me for a complete brake job and I would not known there was just brake dust. Not many shops would be this honest.

They are trustworthy, provide informed choice, and make sure things are done right w/o pressuring for unnecessary repairs. This is by far the best one I have EVER been to! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE! I went in today because my car felt like it was pulling to one side. I just moved to the area three days earlier and it made me nervous to have a car possibly break down when I'm starting a new job and have no connections yet to ask for rides/help. The repairman looked my car all over and even went on a ride with me. He was totally honest with me saying that he felt my car was safe and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Any other place would have "found" something or made up a problem. As a woman, I really appreciated that he did not take advantage of me. I will be back here for ALL my auto maintenance needs as long as I'm in Champaign (which hopefully is for a long time- I'm sick of moving! I really appreciate their flexibility in getting people in and speedy communication. You won't find this at other car places in town.

The employees seem to-the-point but very patient and helpful if something needs extra explaining. I've had routine oil changes done, but my car has also seemingly been brought back from the dead (with no after effects) due to the great work of the staff! This Car-X seems standard, at least to others around the city as well as around Chicago. Make an appointment ahead of time, and be prepared to wait at least an hour for an oil change.

Don't go to this shop. They are scammers will overcharge you for parts and fail to fix the issue…read moreyou visited them for. When you need a refund from them, it needs to go through Car-X corporate, which is slow and unreliable. I took mine in for a check engine light for the knock sensor, and they only made the problem worse. I'm pasting the below paragraphs from my refund request: I'm looking for a refund on some service I had done to my car (VIN redacted). Specifically, I'd like a refund for parts and labor on the knock sensor replacement that the shop did. I visited the shop on 12/11 to request this refund, and they said they'd talk to corporate about it. After not receiving any updates, I followed up with the shop on 12/16. Now, on 12/20, I have still not received any communication regarding the services requested. I entered the shop with a check engine light with code P0325 (Knock Sensor Circuit Bank 1). They told me that after testing, they determined the knock sensor to be faulty, and they replaced it with an "OEM equivalent" knock sensor (Duralast SU6143). Shortly after I retrieved the car from the shop, the CEL came back on with the same code as before. Later, after I warmed up the car, this code persisted, and the engine developed a misfire on one cylinder. I had the car serviced at a dealer, and they replaced the Duralast sensor with a genuine Honda one. The CEL has not come back on, and the misfire did not occur again. Now, after an additional 150 miles of driving, there have been no issues with the engine. Seeing as the aftermarket knock sensor that Car-X installed 1) failed to fix the P0325 code and 2) likely caused the engine to misfire, I am requesting a full refund for the cost of both parts and labor for this repair. Also, the Duralast sensor they installed costs $74 at AutoZone and somehow $180 (not including labor) at Car-X. The shop also recommended me for new tires, while the dealer later said my tires are in generally good condition and have well over another year of average driving left on them.

So, I was looking to save, since no deep pockets were going to pay full price on my body work. I have to hand it to Charlie. He listened to my situation and found all the corners he could cut: pound the bent bumper back into reasonable shape (rather than ordering a new one) and get a second-hand replacement headlight assembly. He even gave me the number to call to get the secondary part from a dealer in Peoria directly rather than him ordering it himself for a couple $100's more. He saved me nearly $1,000 off a full-price job (a dent in his own profit). Afterwards, I could barely tell there had ever been any damage when I got the Mazda back. In fact, it made the other headlight look a bit shoddy in comparison! Charlie may seem a bit gruff in person or on the phone, but he's as honest as they come. And he knows the body work business after many decades in C-U. In the end, what else does anyone want with a body shop but honesty and expertise?
