Stumbled onto this little Portuguese cafe/snack bar after touring the Pantheon. Some seating is inside (narrow space) but most tables are outdoors. Since it was a sunny day we had lunch outside on the plaza.
For a little over 6 euros we got their version of a "value meal" or "lunch special". The customer gets a sandwich (or another traditional Portuguese style entree of choice), a drink and a coffee.
I ordered a Bifana (something I had to try while vacationing here). The braised pork (in garlic and paprika) was very tender, juicy and plentiful. The bread that surrounded the pork was a fresh-tasting crusty but still soft Portuguese roll. The drink that came with the meal was Fanta (tasted different than what we get in the US, not as fake-orange colored and less sweet). The coffee afterwards was more like an espresso; small cup, tasting very full-bodied and smooth. My companion had a similar meal, but instead of Bifana he ordered a toasted ham and cheese sandwich. Perfect way to refuel for more sightseeing and walking afterwards. read more
