The entrance is roped out - when you try to get in, one of the staff members comes out to explain the 'rule'...basically two food items per person is required (requested), so you cannot come here just for beverages. There were lots of yummy tapas dishes described on the blackboard, but I definitely enjoyed my selection - well, thanks to the helpful staff to make my decision. The food across the board was excellent--every dish we tried was flavorful, well-prepared, and felt thoughtfully put together. You can tell there's real intention behind both the menu and execution. What really elevated the experience, though, was our waiter, Bernardo. He brought incredible energy to the table--full of personality, engaging, and genuinely fun to interact with. At the same time, his service was top-notch: attentive without being overbearing, helpful with recommendations, and clearly passionate about what he does. Great food is one thing, but when you pair it with service like that, it turns into a memorable experience. Highly recommend--and if you get Bernardo, you're in for a great time.

We sat on the patio as it was nice and warm this particular day. Our waitress was consistent and attentive - very nice and given it was our first time to Lisbon she explained different types of food we had not yet learned about. I ordered the Sea Bass and it was served butterfly style and chargrilled (not breaded) and it was perfectly seasoned and even though she brought oil and vinegar to the table it was really not needed for the fish. The little burst potatoes were cooked just right as well - sometimes potatoes get dry when cooking --- Portugal has this absolutely figured out. And last but 100% not least - this was the best Sangria my husband and I have ever had. We tried at last 6 other pitchers at different locations that week and not a single one held a candle to this one... its *the* best.

We went all in as a group of four diners, ordering the sardine sandwich (incredibly fresh and layered with flavor), fried fish, octopus, scrumptious pig cheeks, and the most delicious chicken wings. Honestly, I could've skipped the steak sandwich, but everything else was outstanding. Didn't make it to dessert, but the plates we saw heading to other tables looked good. Even the bathroom adds to the experience, decorated like a home, complete with fake hanging "laundry". We walked in during a busy lunch time on a weekend day. Having experienced fado outside of Portugal I didn't feel strongly that it was a must-do, but when I found myself at night on the street that is known for fado I prioritized it. For the best fado experience I recommend an intimate space, hopefully crowded with people but also with a view to the performers. Tasca do Chico is exactly that place. The doorman told us that space was standing room only, at the (tiny) bar. From there we could see and hear the performers while ordering food and drink. We'd not been there long before we were offered an available seat at a table which caused us to order more food and drink and stay a little longer. The fado here is quite good, made even more enjoyable as the artists change quite frequently; a song or two and a new artist steps forward, all very talented and enjoyable to watch and hear. The fado places tend to have lines out the door and a doorman managing entry. A place across the street looked much bigger but the intimacy is, in my opinion, what makes the experience both unique and special. Even if you have to start at the bar, Tasca do Chico is a great place to experience fado.
