Sesame chicken and ginger beef blow other restaurants in Kelowna out of the water. I'm used to Chinese from Vancouver Chinatown and Richmond as I lived most of my life on the coast, I was so disappointed in the overpriced and underwhelming Chinese restaurants in Kelowna until I went to Yum Yum Tree. The line up speaks for itself!

We decided to check out Pick Thai for lunch. It's run by a Thai family and they're located next…read moredoor to Subcity Donair. We dropped in on a Friday (around 12:45pm) and it was busy. There's two tables outside and another four inside. Service is friendly but it's a one woman show in the front. The menu consists of appetizers, soups & salads and main dishes (noodles, curry and wok). There's a daily lunch special ($10.95) but most dishes are in the $10.95 to $14.95 price range. They also serve bubble tea and other drinks (classic tea, fresh milk and over ice). There's a heat scale (mild to hottest); we went with spicy (middle option) but there was barely any kick at all. Would request hot or hottest if you want some heat. - Jasmine rice ($2.00) - standard fare. One bowl is enough for one person. - Pad thai chicken (N1) ($12.95) - we opted for the tamarind sauce. Good portion of noodles and the flavours were on point. One of the better pad thai's I've had in a long time. The only downside was that the chicken was dry. - Beef massaman curry (C2) ($12.95) - curry was tasty but there wasn't enough sauce. The potato was literally French fries; can't say I've ever seen that in a Thai curry before. Good flavour but wish they gave you more sauce. The beef was unfortunately tough and chewy. Clearly the meat they use isn't fresh. Decent Thai but not all the elements were there.

Rude customer service when ordering and paying, charged $5 to change one item of a dinner for 4 people. Upon returning home i saw that received the wrong item i was charged extra for. I called about that and was offered a free item during next order and rushed off the phone as i was unwilling to drive 20-30mins back to receive the correct item ordered. In fact the person on the phone (?Fanny) said its the same dish as another just add walnuts. This is unacceptable. Lovely, but never ordering here again! We will find somewhere else that is convenient. You just lost a customer for good.

Unfortunately, we weren't impressed with the quality. We ordered the dinner for 2 and an additional order of chicken with cashew nuts. I knew from the name that there was some Korean food options being served here. They have a bunch of Korean fried chicken options, but there are also Japanese foods like katsu on the menu that don't involve raw fish. I got the nigiri lunch special. For $21 in the heart of downtown Kelowna, I thought it was a fair price. The lunch special comes with 4 pieces of nigiri, a shrimp tempura/California roll, a few pieces of tempura, deep fried spring rolls, miso soup and a small salad. The salad dressing was good, but the leaves were a little old. Other than that, everything else was great. The tempura was so crispy and the roll was pretty good. The fish quality probably could have been better, but honestly this is middle America and I've had a lot worse. The service was sooooo nice. Everyone I've met in restaurants in Kelowna have been so nice and this was no exception. I loved that my water had a little slice of lemon in it and that they checked on me without being irritating. The food came out fast and I easily paid when I was ready to go. The inside has quite a few tables and nice heavy chairs that remind me of old, fancy Chinese restaurants. They even have an outside eating area. There are some other sushi spots along Bernard street, but this one was the closest to the waterfront. I enjoyed my experience here and would come back if I had the opportunity.
