I was surprised to see so much Asian influence in Kelowna. I went to the Kelowna heritage museum and they had some information about Chinese Canadians who had immigrated during the gold rush/railroad building days, so it seems like a lot of them have stayed or maybe there has been more recent immigration of Chinese and Japanese and Korean people. Not sure, but I'm not mad. There are so many boba places to choose from! Unfortunately for me, most places in Kelowna close at or before 8pm and my boba window is usually a little later. I had committed myself to one boba drink per day, but it ended up being that I was only able to get boba twice on this trip to Kelowna. Fermosa is pretty centrally located between Kelowna airport and downtown. It's in a strip mall and has good parking. The interior is rather spacious and they sell other things like artwork and plushies. For food and drinks, I noticed a display of cakes and desserts. They also offer course have boba drinks. I judge places like this on their milk tea quality and even though the worker was checking her work with the boss and he kept saying it was ok (they both tasted the drink they made me), it really was just ok to me. It's not the best milk tea I've had. The boba was good though, so I think if you like other drinks like fruity ones or matcha or other teas, this might be a great place. The female worker who helped me was very nice. I was pleasantly surprised that the Chinese Canadians I interacted with this trip were so soft spoken and nice. We're in Kelowna temporarily but hold bbt standards from Vancouver, so really were keeping expectations low. The place is bigger than we anticipated -- lots of seating for group games etc. I'm a fan of the local art featured on the walls and the Taipei 101 tower decor. The menu is pretty tea-focused, so I wasn't sure if I would find something caffeine-free for myself. Thankfully I spotted fresh taro milk somewhere (not on the main menu) and got very excited. Got it with no ice and less sugar, and it honestly was just as good as many places in Vancouver. Price-wise, the fresh taro specifically is on the steeper side ($9.15 after tax for a large) - comparable to the big chains. Should also mention that the lady who took our order was clearly Taiwanese, which helps with authenticity. Overall a very pleasant surprise -- would definitely return while were in here in Kelowna! read more

We had three bubble teas, which were all delicious. For taste/quality, this would be a five star cafe. The location was also nice and quite large. I like the idea of getting to play the free board games with purchase of food or drink (though we didn't take advantage of that this time). The star deduction was really for how long it took - there were two people making the drinks and at the time, we were the only orders they were working on. I am not sure why one drink took so long, but my friend had almost finished her drink by the time I got mine. Luckily we weren't in a rush, but if there had been a line, I can only imagine how long it would have taken to get an order. It's something worth mentioning. That being said, I would recommend this place and I would go back again for sure. If the service is faster next time, I'll upgrade the rating and count this time as a fluke. read more

A friend recommended this spot to my girlfriend and I. We stopped by for lunch, I got a coconut cream bubble tea, and she got a lavender lemonade. Both were delicious, and the tapioca was some of the best Ive had anywhere. Their sandwiches were just as good. The atmosphere is very comfy and relaxed. Formosa is my favourite Cafe hands down. I go as often as I can, for boba in the summer (taro is my personal favourite) and for a pot of tea in cooler weather. The atmosphere is quite relaxing and the service is always impeccable. Bring a book or a friend and enjoy some awesome tea! read more

I stopped by this place with my husband for some dessert. When we came into the store, it was a very lazy and quite enviroment. I was looking for bubble tea but couldn't find on the menu. Then the owner asked me if I am looking for bubble tea. Bubble tea menu was attached on cashie table by itself. It was kinda confusing concept. I ordered taro milk tea and told him I don't want slush type. I think that was more than enough to express what I want. But he was actually little bitchy with my order. "YOU WANT MILK TEA? OR SLUSH?" I love Formosa Tea Cafe and go at least once a week. My favourite drink is the Caramel Macchiato slush with bubbles. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is fun. There are games available as well as free wifi. I love that they can make me a drink with real milk and real tea or coffee rather than just the coffeemate style mixes that most bubble tea places use. read more
