The chicken was blazing red giving hints of flavor that should have been and left me wanting for the seasons and spices promised in the name. I got none of the seasons of tandoori on my palate. My husband had the saumon with creme and he agrees it was pretty basic as well. The service saves this review as it was very friendly and I enjoyed speaking with our server. She loved that I was doing well with learning French which really does elevate the French experience. The ambiance was exactly what you hope for in the Parisian experience. It wasn't bad at all, it filled our bellies, but you can find more within the local town of Versailles and I recommend you do.

My wife ordered a Crepe with butter and brown sugar, while I went with the vegetable buckwheat Crepe. They were both cooked to order and the ingredients were fresh and the vegetables crisp. All in all, a very pleasant experience and we will be returning the next time we're in Paris!

L'Hirondelle gets four stars for food quality alone…read more We walked in on a Friday night without a reservation. The first thing I noticed was the overwhelming smell of cat food. The second thing I noticed was how cute and homey the restaurant was. I'm fairly certain that's because people live here. There was a cute dog hanging out by the stairs. The server wasn't sure if she could squeeze us in but ultimately said there was an empty table upstairs. When we got upstairs, she seated us at one of six empty tables. There were literally no other people up there the entire time we were in the restaurant. There was a cat, though, hence the cat food smell. The cat was enjoying its life, hopping from table to table, which has to be some kind of health code violation. The server sat us in a weird corner, so we moved to a more inviting table near the window and heater. When she came back up to take our orders, she was annoyed that we had moved and said the table we picked "isn't for guests." This seemed weird to us, since it was clearly the most desirable table on that floor. We offered to move, but she let us stay. The cat had been creeping over my shoulder, literally breathing down my neck from an inch away, and thankfully, the waitress put her in a different room. After all these negatives, I still have to give it four stars, because the crepes were absolutely delicious. I had the paysanne, a very hearty, flavorful vegetarian crepe with potatoes, tomatoes, and egg in it. It was beautifully presented as well. For dessert, I had the fried pear crepe with white chocolate ice cream, and it was also delicious. My friend had the smoked salmon and spinach crepe, which looked disgusting, and he didn't seem to enjoy it. Overall, the experience was enjoyable and fun, so I'd definitely go back.

On the menu there is a section for extras, and you have the option of paying 2€ per egg. Arnaud simply stated that he would not put that order in. At first, I thought it was a communication error on my part, so I tried to point to the menu items we were requesting. He said "we will not put the eggs on the side, only on top". This would mean putting the eggs in a pool of chocolate sauce, so I asked why, and he replied "Welcome to France". I swallowed my ire, and asked if he wouldn't mind asking the chef, and he said, "the chef said no". Just to illustrate how insane this interaction was, we were sitting directly in front of the kitchen, I was looking into the chef's eyes as I asked, and Arnaud did not even turn around when he answered for the man. My husband saw me getting visibly upset at this point, and said we would take the eggs on top then, and he would have the same thing (we had arrived that morning and were exhausted with 3 children who we were just trying to get fed at this point). His response to my husband is the reason I'm warning women, and not Americans in general. He refused to look at me and responded, "eggs might be strange with the chocolate sauce, I can put the sauce on the side, but just for you". WHAT?!? I did not want to give them one star, because after this ridiculous interaction, the kind chef who had locked eyes with me earlier PUT THE EGGS IN A SMALL SIDE DISH for my child. Which tells me two things; one, I was not being rude or asking for things that weren't on the menu, and two, that Arnaud was in fact being unreasonable, and they have probably had to apologize for his behavior toward women in the past. As a side note, this is FAR from my first time in France. We actually live in Spain, and from Paris, to Nice, Cannes, Épernay, and Reims, I have never had an interaction like this. Apologies again to the chef for this star rating. Your food was flavorful, and your kindness to my child was even better.
