I attended a memorial service for my great uncle at O'Connor's over the weekend and it was a lovely, intimate experience. The staff was present, but enough in the background that they weren't obtrusive. (I will say, however, that during one of the eulogies we could hear someone opening & closing what sounded like a loud door just behind us that was a tad distracting. I wish that wasn't happening). We were in one of the larger rooms, but it was still small enough to be intimate. I really appreciated it. It brought everyone there together as one to honor my great uncle. I say that only because if you expect a very large group, O'Connor might not be able to accommodate you so you might want to ask them about how many people they can hold in their rooms. In all, we had a good experience in our short time at O'Connor's. They did a wonderful job of helping us honor our family member. read more

Terese showed me all the packages they had and then when I agreed to one she started saying all these extra fees that weren't included in the packages , so I asked her well then whats the price packages for if nothing is included then she started saying well these fees dont go to us so I said im going elsewhere then she said it would cost me 550 dollars to get my loved ones body out so I contacted my lawyer and he said thats illegal you cant hold a body hostage. She also said take your business somewhere else while i was leaving. So I went to another place. They wanted to charge me 7k plus without those extra not needed fees and I got everything for 3,800 . She was like a used car salesperson heartless and controlling. read more

Think twice before planning a funeral here. The facility was dangerously overcrowded (standing room only), and the staff refused to open the viewing room door, citing "privacy." They are clearly prioritizing a strange policy over guest health. On top of that, parking is practically non-existent. read more

Amber was an immense help coordinating with the Coroner's office so my wife's ashes could return home with her mother and sister. We recently had a viewing and vigil service for our father followed by a funeral mass at St Kilians Catholic Church. Amber Lara was our coordinator. She worked well with my friend's family and her team to help him plan a Celebration of Life event that would really honor his wife. At every moment the team was respectful and helpful. I'm especially thankful for Andrea and Erica who helped me set up the day of the service which was March 7th. I could not be happier for all of their help. Also, my friend broke his arm a week before the service. Wish I could give 10 stars. This business has been extraordinary, so much so, I am considering doing pre-planning for myself, when that day comes and my family will not have to be burdened. My husband passed due to cancer unexpectedly in mid January. For anyone who's been this situation, you know it's hard to know what the next step would be. O'Connor Mortuary was one of the list of mortuaries referred by one of the trauma volunteers. After I made the call to them and they pretty much took care of everything. They were so understanding, compassionate and very accommodating. I felt that I was entrusting my husband to a hand of a family member. Their amazing care team took great care of my husband during his brief stay as my husband was eventually transported to Bay Area for his final resting place. O'Connor staff were very helpful and made sure every detail was taken care of and followed things through. They were so accommodating to our request. One of the most surprising gestures was they made a request to have a tree seedling planted in one of the nation forests as a living tribute to a loved one via Living Memorial program. Someone close to our family recently passed away. While at hospital, I requested a different mortuary to pick up the deceased individual. I faxed the paperwork over to that mortuary and they stated that they would pick up the body. That mortuary did not follow through. Feeling despondent, I stopped by O'Connor Mortuary to see if they could help us out. I met with Amy and explained the situation. She could tell that I had reached my breaking point. The other mortuary allowed the deceased individual to be placed in the morgue, which is what we didn't want to happen. After speaking to Amy, she sent her driver over to the hospital to pick up the individual and she also called to tell the hospital staff to refuse to release the body to the other mortuary. The body was back at O'Connor's Mortuary in less than an hour! Amy and I discussed pricing and I explained that the final resting place was on the east coast. She said that we'd coordinate with a funeral home back east as well as the cemetery. She provided me with an estimate for the cost of preparing the body and shipping the individual back east. So the next day, I had an appointment with Jeff. When we met with him, he began by giving us a tour of the facility and some background about the company. He then asked us to tell us about the individual. He wanted to know what our fondest memories were and what hobbies they had. I was appreciative of this because he wasn't getting down to the financials right away. He humanized the situation and put our minds at ease. Once we began discussing the financials, every detail was laid out for us. Jeff gave me an estimate for cargo shipping and proceeded to help us schedule a viewing for friends in the area. He conversed with the funeral home and cemetery back east so that I could continue planning for a funeral. I was also able to view the body prior to the wake to see if the individual was presentable. Once we had the viewing, Jeff messaged me the next day to let me know that cargo had received the body. I was told what time the flight would land and given the itinerary. Flight numbers and times were provided so that I could track the progress. The funeral home on the east coast also contacted me and let me know the schedule as well. They proceeded to notify me when the body was in their care. O'Connor Mortuary helped ease a situation that seemed out of control. I am thankful for the amount of compassion and empathy that their staff exhibited toward us. They told me that they would take good care of the individual and I felt that provided protection for them in a way that we couldn't do on our own. I wouldn't want to make it a habit to come her anymore but if a series of unfortunate events occurs again, I would definitely call upon O'Connor Mortuary to guide us through this difficult situation. Last week I attended a friend's Dad's memorial...this was a beautiful service & so personal {even thou the officiant had never met the deceased}. Keith, the officiant, used humor (in a very tasteful way} to remember our loved one just as he would have wanted to be remembered. Keith also included family and friends and asked them to participate in the service {by raising hands to see who worked with him, who was a neighbor, who attended school with him and also by asking us to share memories and/or a simple word to remember our loved one by}. During the service, a passage was read about grief {written by Gwen Flowers} reminding us Grief is not linear...it is not something you get through or something you complete. Be gentle on yourself and tell your loved ones daily how much they mean to you. Thank you Keith for such a touching celebration of life for an amazing man. read more

Both times I worked with Jennifer Munro, a wonderful person who walked me through this strange new world and helped me understand things while I was wracked with grief. We have used O'Connor Mortuary on two occasions. The first was when our father passed away unexpectedly four years ago. My brother and I did not know how to proceed. Fortunately for us, Terese Henriks walked us through the process, explaining what decisions we needed to make and gently guiding us through this difficult time. The mortuary was both professional and compassionate. A few months ago, our mother passed and we decided to have a celebration of her life. Teresa's team helped us with a deacon who tailored the ceremony for our specific situation. The videographer did an outstanding job with a photo montage of our mother's life. There were team members who helped us set up the room. We were able to pull together a celebration that was reflective of our mom, not an event that could have been for any person. Absolutely horrible service. i was hoping for professionalism during our time of grief, but that wouldn't be the case! Our brother passed away in Montana & was shipped down to Orange County & was received by O'Connor Mortuary. I received 4 docusigns to embalm my brother... he was embalmed in Montana before her arrived! There was no inventory list made by O'Connor & therefore caused great anxiety that they lost his cowboy boots! I paid an exorbitant amount to them & did not get a receipt (you get one at McDonalds!). Very unprofessional...I went in personally to request a receipt & question why they didn't post his obituary. Seriously not worth the money. Use another mortuary! read more

My father passed suddenly (although not unexpectedly) just over two weeks ago. Before his death, no plans had been made for celebrating his life. The hospital where he passed recommended two mortuary services. O'Connor was one, and after a bit of research, our family chose O'Connor Mortuary. We could not be happier with our choice. From my mother's first phone call to their recent follow up, O'Connor's services have been top notch. My loved one passed away unexpectedly and I was referred to O'Connor Mortuary by a family member who had used them in the past. From the moment I walked in I knew that it was the right place to have my loved one be cared for. Our coordinator, Teresa was compassionate, attentive, and detailed. I received constant updates from Teresa in regards to every single step of the process and she was very accessible whenever I had any questions. I would also love to include the wonderful make up artist and the driver who accompanied my loved one to and from the viewing reception. They assured absolutely nobody was taking pictures without my consent during the viewing. They were very meticulous and responsible for placing the flower arrangements along with transporting them back to the mortuary. What incredible luck we had in getting linked up with O'Connor Mortuary and the funeral director who assisted us, Carrie Bayer. She made a stressful, difficult process of having to unexpectedly bury my mother-in-law go as smoothly as possible. My mother-in-law died suddenly in Irvine on a Saturday night and we live in San Francisco. She left no instructions or wishes regarding this circumstance. Her body had to be moved that day (we found out at 8pm). There was no way we could get there that day and we didn't know anyone anyway, so luckily, the Irvine coroner's office referred us to O'Connor Mortuary and they came and took care of everything until we could get there the next day. We had never been in this position of having to deal with a mortuary and get someone buried and all, so we were really cautious, not to mention distraught, when we went to the mortuary. Apparently, if you don't have a prior preference, the funeral director that you work with is assigned based on who is working at the time you come in. We were lucky enough to have have Carrie assigned to help us. Carrie was absolutely wonderful from the moment we met. Although we were very leary of the whole mortuary/burial business, she put us at ease immediately and did not try to hard sell us or show anything other than completely professional, but warm, caring service. She let us take our time when we needed to and presented appropriate alternatives based on our preferences. Carrie is one of those rare people who love what they do and are naturally gifted at it. She has the ability to know what to say, how to say it, and when to say it, to help guide people through the difficult, stressful decisions surrounding a death in the family. She is usually in charge of the "back office" staff who actually do the work, so she does not work with that many families and you may have to ask for her. She is worth it. You could not be in better hands and you will have the added assurance that she and her staff are personally looking after your loved one. read more
