I was nearly fataly injured in a car wreck. I will spend the rest of my life disabled from someone elses poor and wreckless decisions.I reached out to Mattars office (never ONCE did he take the time to speak to me) and pawned off to a woman attorney about to go out on maternity. She sent a couple emails out and left....I heard nothing for months. I then was passed around to some one else who did the same emails and soon after quit (More months of no word)....I FINALLY got handed off to a woman who spent more time telling me what Im NOT entitled to than what I was. In the end game it took 2 years to do what other attorneys say should have taken 6-8 months and what I received for a settlement in no way even covered the medical expenses incured, much less the lifetime of pain and suffering. Oh and lets not forget the 33% (30 thousand dollars) of the settlement they take for making a few phone calls and sending a few emails. Do yourself a favor...FIND ANOTHER FIRM. A final note, I live in Albany, NY..they say they have offices in Albany yet I had to do everything thru Jamestown????? Gimme a break.

My partner and I were actively disputing the value of the business, and at no point was I advised to obtain a fair market valuation, something I later learned is a critical step in this type of situation after consulting with another attorney. I ultimately signed paperwork approximately one month before the stated close date without a clear understanding of the implications of signing at that stage. This was not fully explained to me, and I did not feel I was in a position to make an informed decision. Additionally, the retainer agreement did not align with the final billing. I was billed at a rate approximately $75 per hour higher than what I understood from the agreement, $50/hour higher for a senior associate and $25/hour higher for an associate. When I emailed Mackenzie Monaco regarding this discrepancy, I was told that services had already been "discounted." However, I never signed any documentation beyond the retainer agreement indicating any adjustment to rates or discounted billing terms. The second attorney I consulted with reviewed the billing, and agreed there are discrepancies. At this point, my only recourse regarding the billing issue is to submit a complaint to the state board and pursue fee arbitration to dispute my $12,000 bill. As I did not receive what I paid for. Pursuing a malpractice claim is not feasible at this time, as it would require me to pay out of pocket for a business valuation that would no longer be a shared expense, given that I was ultimately left to exit the business by default. There was also a transition involving another attorney on the matter that I was not informed of in advance, which added to the confusion during an already stressful process. Overall, I did not feel adequately guided through a complex situation. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this firm for business buyout matters involving disputed valuation.
