I have had a few interactions with them, most of them unpleasant. When they can be reached at all,…read moretheir priority is always to make it crystal clear that they are so terribly busy, so if there is any response from them at all, it will typically be delayed to such a degree that it becomes pointless. Recently I called them several times in a row for a non-emergent, but important issue, always dialing '0' for the main desk. Nobody answered the phone for over 15 minutes. I then hit '2' for the detective squad (I really did not want to disturb them, but I did not know how else to get through to anyone from the 76th). They told me to call 311 (which would have been completely ineffectual for the matter at hand - which I knew from experience), then they just became very impatient and hung up on me. I tried again to get through dialling '0', nobody answered. That probably counts as a successful resolution for the 76th. I really wonder, if they are always too busy to actually assist, why are they alwasy seen sitting in their cars, idling while blocking bike lanes? I think they are just like most NYPD: Entitled, arrogant, and most of all: lazy. I know there must be a few good officers around, probably even in the 76th, but after 25 years of living in the neighborhood, I have yet to meet them.

Today I felt harassed/ threatened by a man who I said nothing to when he began to yell and curse at me (a 50's something man to a 20's something girl) then followed me in his SUV and took a picture of me and sped off. There is, of course, more to this story... but this is not okay. For the police to say, "There is nothing we can do about it"... well that just forces people to take things into their own hands. If they are not protecting me, then I will have to protect myself. And maybe by me saying that, something will happen.

At first the yellow tones against the gray of the bread was a welcome contrast to the beige walls and cement floor but by the end of the meal it became an assault on the senses and overwhelmed my pallet. I discarded my left overs on the floor and was waiting for desert when one of my dinner mates informed me if I was here any longer he would make me his b!tch. I asked the host if I could have my seat moved but my request was ignored. I promptly gathered my belongings quietly waited for my check but the same rowdy customer told me if I fought back he would tear off my arm and f**k me with it. Over all the experience was one I will cherish and remember for years to come but I can't say I will be eating there again soon

Be prepared for the worst if you are called for jury duty. Bring a book, magazines etc..a…read moresketchbook. Can't have anything with you besides that. No clocks anywhere. Maybe bring an analog wristwatch to track the hours (smartwatches and phones are not allowed, but I happened to see a person with an apple watch somehow). Have to answer lots of personal questions, like you are the one on trial. Like a dystopian horror film. Sat in three windowless rooms on the 2nd and 11th floor, all while wearing a number the whole time (like prison camp). Went through one round of questioning with a large group of potential jurors, where we all had to raise our numbers in any affirmative response. Hours later, I was ultimately placed behind bulletproof glass with a microphone in front of a judge and a room full of lawyers, and all while being masked (and they are not). Was grilled about my experiences with law enforcement. I was excused after being contained in this building like a criminal for 8 hours. Have to go through the same process tomorrow and for the next two weeks.

I got a summons for jury duty and I was curious if people have yelped the Kings County Supreme…read moreCourt--surprise, surprise--there are reviews. I figure that I'll add mine. I took the train to Borough Hall and it was a short walk. The first day, you get there at 8:30am and go through security--the line might be long but if they have all stations open, it'll move quickly. There's signage for jury duty, which is on the second floor. You'll go in a large room where the orientation would start and they will make statements--if they apply to you, they will lead you to another room (ex. You don't understand basic English, you need child care, you are not a citizen, etc...). after that, if you're still in the room, you'll get called to another room where they call your name again and lead you to the courtroom. You'll meet the judge presiding over the case, he/she will explain what the case is about and will ask if you are unable to serve. This does not mean you get to go home. This particular case was estimated to be two and half weeks long--he said that another case might be longer. I decided to stay but about 75% of the room left. After that, we started the voir dire process where the attorneys on both sides ask the jurors questions to see what they say. After that, we were dismissed for lunch and the attorneys would decide who would be a juror. I was one of the 12 jurors chosen. There were also four alternates. The trial started at that point. We had our own bailiff who would lead us in the courtroom, we could ask questions that she would forward to the judge, etc. We also received juror cards that we had to keep--we needed to show the guard at the front desk so we could be let in the juror room. We would stay in the juror room when we arrived in the morning and when we were not in the courtroom. If you are a juror, you can bring food--just let security know when going through the detectors. You can go out for lunch but once deliberations start, you can't leave the room (there are bathrooms inside the room as well). Also, I would recommend bringing a book or a knitting/crochet project to keep yourself occupied--especially if you happen to be an alternate and deliberations have started. Once the judge dismissed us for deliberation, alternates go in a different room but have to turn in their phones like the regular jurors (they can't deliberate on the case). Once we reached a unanimous verdict and signed off on it, we were led into the courtroom. After giving the verdict, we returned to the juror room, turned in our juror cards and left from a different elevator which took us out a different side of the building. I'm glad we had a different way to leave because the case I was on was for murder and one thing you figure out is that we can't make both sides happy. It's not personal to us as jurors but it's personal to the families and I don't want to get caught up in any retribution because the verdict wasn't favorable. I will say that the guards were friendly, which I didn't expect and the judge in our case was down to Earth. Now, I don't have to do jury duty for another eight years. Although, I learned that teachers love jury duty, which is another conversation.

The police officer did not finish my report yet, so the first lady told me to call his office number and ask him to bring it to the front desk. I did. He's a busy guy and so it took a few times to reach him but when I did reach him, he was actually extremely polite. When I came to pick up my report, the front desk lady was really nice. She was handling more than one person's requests at once, but still she maintained her good nature and friendly face. This Precinct really put their best foot forward. Being in the professional service industry and a governmental professional service at that is extremely hard. I appreciate their strong efforts in providing at least this level of courteous behavior. It is not easy.
