Did a consult via text. Before I even met the guy in person, he got rude with me because he…read moreincorrectly assumed I didn't want to pay him for his work. What actually happened is he wanted to use harsher chemicals than necessary for removing old hair dye and do multiple sessions instead of what I actually wanted, which I know from personal experience can be done in an hour and a half with an $11 kit that doesn't contain ammonia or bleach. (I have my own reasons for not simply DIYing it this time; if that were an option I wouldn't be seeking a professional in the first place.) Reasonably, I assumed a hair care pro would have heard of this kit or the chemicals in it & would have something similar in his own toolkit, so I don't think it's my fault his education is lacking. But he apparently felt otherwise, told me to get a friend to do it "to save a bunch of time and money" as if those things were the issue. They weren't. The chemicals are, and his attitude is. It'd be foolish of me to spring for multiple $150+ appointments and damaging my hair each time for only partial results, when I already know it's possible to get my exact desired results for hundreds & hours less with minimal damage. My problem was about him insisting he could ONLY do it the slow, damaging, super expensive way & then getting mad when I didn't jump on the opportunity when it wouldn't even be what I want & know is possible. But for some reason, he chose to make it about the money. Considering I'd already told him this would be my first time getting professionally-done chemical services, and that I was planning to get several higher-end things done after the color correction, my guess is he took that to mean "cha-ching!" and I guess he mistook my inexperience with advanced salon services as gullibility. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and look for solutions rather than pick fights, so I gave him an opportunity to explain why he couldn't or wouldn't do what I was asking for in a reasonable amount of time. For all I know, we both might have learned something useful if he'd answered my question earnestly & in good faith. Unfortunately all that came out of that exchange was the desire to write this review, so I can at least spare someone else the trouble. TL;DR: Johnny comes across as impatient, petty, unhealthily money-motivated to the point of avarice, and doesn't seem to like or respect potential clients who don't immediately agree with him. Two other negative reviews mention Groupons, which tons of businesses happily offer for the point of getting new repeat business, so the money thing is definitely a pattern whether he's willing to admit it or not. Yes, experts should be paid well for their expertise, but I've dealt with people like this guy before who abuse it. I'm guessing he tries to upsell at every appointment and gets huffy when it doesn't work. Maybe his work really is that good, but the attitude leaves a lot to be desired. I wouldn't trust a person like that not to destroy my hair if he got in a mood one day. Edited to add: his dramatic reply pretty much makes my point for me. Honestly this was the first time I was getting my hair colored and had seen a of fails and was really worried but you are in safe hands here. In fact most of them gave Johnny a bad review because they don't understand that he is literally a stand alone shop. He isn't apart of a huge network of salons so when you miss an appointment it's an issue. As for more of my experience I went in with virgin dark asian hair and wanted it to go into a ombré that was ash blonde and silver. The process took roughly 6 hours which is a long time for me to be sitting. Johnny was absolutely great and very patient with me the entire time. I had let him know I needed to study for a major final I was taking the next day and he left me alone and it wasn't awkward. We engaged in light conversation in the beginning and he never made me feel as if I was being left alone. As a side note it IS a really long time. I'd bring some snacks and as a previous reviewer said, maybe some for Johnny as well. Honestly I would have given him some of my food if it wasn't like just an old taco haha. He has plenty of refreshments from water to wine. I also had to get him to pass me several things when I was on the chair and he was more than happy to assist me. I also had to go to the bathroom every 2 hours and it was no problem. What I will also say is that Johnny's equipment is NICE. He has this crazy awesome advanced hair blow dryer thing that I have never seen before. It was fancy as hell. Keep up the great work!

I needed a curly-hair, dry-cut and color/highlight pro; Cara goes above and beyond with helping me maintain a beautiful curly cut and color! She also got me through chemo through all of 2022. Cara was so supportive when my hair fell out, gave me an epic buzz cut, let me know when it was time to shave it off completely, and then stuck by me as my curls grew back out. On the few occasions when she has been unavailable, Rachel, Meg, and Jen have also been fantastic. Service: My service fee for a hair cut is $85 and Kerasilk treatment for $45. Hair cut: Cindy does a fantastic job. She creates the best layers that fits my face and adds volume to my hair.
