You can find NuLa nestled in off the main busy strip of North Water, which is a perfect little hideaway for this nail studio. We walked in and were ushered in immediately to sit down and relax! Kara is one fun young lady. Her spunky attitude and knack for humor with a bit of sarcasm made this visit a treat. She is really a hoot to be around! Between the humor and the hot towels plus the relaxing atmosphere, it was a great way to start our vacation. We had top-notch service and enjoyed the experience overall. We reserved the entire studio so my wife and I could get the royal treatment. Gentle massages and hot water on the feet and lots of wonderful oils and lotions to make the hands and feet feel wonderful Overall, nothing to complain about because we left the studio feeling like a million bucks! I booked online a few weeks in advance and selected first available for manicurist. After checking in I was asked to wash my hands and then pick out a color. I had a general idea of what color I wanted but wouldn't have found the perfect shade without help from the front desk worker - thank you, girl!! I was very surprised to see so many people bring in their own polish. Apparently that's a thing. My appointment was scheduled for 2:30 and they led me to a spot to start soaking at 2:38. Things officially kicked off at 2:45. I really liked who I was paired with, Frida. She was so sweet and made sure I liked how short she cut my nails, asked if the water was hot, etc. just paid attention to details. The massage that I got as part of the spa package was heavenly. I honestly was shocked. The last place I went to said that they could not do anything they said they only did nail polish no designs. I have gone to this salon a few times with no issues. I wasn't a regular but I go for special…read moreoccasions and have recommended several people their services. This last time changed my mind. I went with a friend, and she called to book the appointment weeks ago, with specific technicians. We get to the salon and I let them know I changed my mind and want gel now, not acrylics. A few moments after we walk in a woman comes in and says she has an appointment with one of our technicians. They let her know they overbooked and wouldn't be able to service her. The woman told the technicians that she had called a couple days before and scheduled, and they must've messed it up. Then the technician who's overbooked comes over and tells us we're going to switch so she can do the other woman's nails. To me, as a business, this is bad practice, you shouldn't put your customers in a position like this. I understand that mistakes happen, but they should've honored the people that made the appointment first. In hindsight, I should've advocated for myself better, but I don't think businesses should be putting their clients in this position. They had us sit down because they weren't ready, and we had to wait an additional 15 minutes. At that point I was on a time crunch, and didn't have time to go anywhere else. The technician who did my nails was very upset that I wasn't doing acrylics anymore, and asked me three or four times if I was sure. I didn't realize it at the time, but she cut my cuticle open, and didn't say anything about it. I got home and my finger was in a lot of pain. Bad communication and honoring clients who booked after your other ones is a no for me.
