They were very likeable people. I bought one of their first bass guitars (Monarch four string, purple heart in 1982). What a gem. Not for its cosmetic looks. But for its quality and functionally. The moment I saw it I knew that it was mine. No questions asked. I never had an issue with it in 40 plus years. The balance, playability, comfortable weight, sound, tone, vibration... It was all there. And it could scream - even with the electronic pack that they furnished back then. I have been trying hard to buy another Fodera bass directly from them in their shop in Brooklyn. Spoke to the relatively new partner once and then to a sales employee sometime later. Nothing ever came out of it. It was like they had no interest in dialogue. I did not feel like I was being treated fairly. It was more of a sales line from the other side. They showed no interest in me. I certainly was not being treated like I was when I first met Vinny and Joey in 82. I felt some brotherhood appreciation back then. While the quality of their incredible instruments improved and the business expanded in unlimited directions, the service has shifted. It does not feel as authentic and genuine as it once did. You can pick up the vibes over the phone. They are well on their way now and so lost sight of one of their first customers who stepped into the shop to be fitted for a tailored suit - and in return help them along in business. As well, it was a bit disappointing to learn that the waiting period was a whopping 15 plus months last time I checked in. Hopefully one of them will see this reply and give me a call. I was told the Street Sounds proprietor (Rocky) is usually in by 1pm; it was already past 1:30 when I left a voicemail on the number on the business card, and waited another 10 minutes in case he just went to get coffee or something. He never called back. The least they could do was update the site to alert people to the change, but they obviously do not care. Beyond unacceptable!
