This was our first time here. While exploring Arnold's Park, we came across this cute little shop. Although it wasn't a particularly hot day, we decided to stop in and check it out. The shop offers many different flavors, and my daughter absolutely loved the mint chocolate chip. There is no indoor seating, but they do have a few outdoor tables available in the shade, which makes it a nice spot to enjoy your treat. read more

The Nutty Bar Stand is an Arnolds Park must-have. Serving up cold treats since the 40s this ice cream parlor has something for everyone! We popped in on a Sunday afternoon and my kiddos each wanted some ice cream. While they didn't go with this gem's namesake (ahem, the nutty bar), they did enjoy a very generously scooped cookies and cream ice cream and a rainbow sherbert. Both were delish. The shop is clean, it has a great patio, too. The staff was super kind and patient with my noncommittal nine year old. Pricing was on point. This shop is open daily. It also features Blue Bunny ice cream, which is made just down the way in LeMars, IA. Next time I'm around, I'll be getting a frozen banana! read more

We visited twice!!! The seasonal bar was butterfinger & we couldn't get enough of it. The ice cream was so incredibly delicious - and we were a bit timid to stand in line at first, thinking it would take a while to get through but no!! They had many counters open and got everyone in & out so quickly. The pricing is exceptional, the kiddos loved it as much as the adults and the seating area overlooks a beautiful area. Loved people watching & enjoyed this quick stop! read more

A absolute must in Okoboji. We go every year! The best chocolate, peanut, and ice cream combo around. My favorite thing is taking it down to the pier or walking through Arnold's Park! Always very friendly and professional staff. Can't wait to go back next year! read more

The ice cream was delicious as people in our group tried most options. The service is very quick and friendly. There is always quite a few people when we go but we get through quickly. This looks like something you would have went to in the 50's or 60's with a retro theme and design. Very enjoyable. We go here frequently. I started when my grandpa used to take us as kids now I'm continuing that as a tradition with my children. We always take ours to go and eat it while looking at the fountain and looking out over the lake before we get back onto our boat. read more

This has been around forever and it's just the best! Beat the heat by stopping into the counter service ice cream stand and pick up a nutty bar! They're delicious! As well they have scoops of ice cream. Something for everyone! I was so impressed last week by the kindness of the staff and speed when it was really busy. As well, it was really clean! The baby cone for littles is adorable and perfect size! Keep up the great work! read more

And you may ask yourself, "Well... how did I get here?" I've been enjoying Nutty Bars since the late 1960s and during the times of the old Roof Garden next door. And if I'm visiting the Iowa Great Lakes like I do every year, I'm here. This is one of my happy places. Gayle and I were here last week. We had Lunch "upstairs" at The Gardens (Central Emporium) and enjoyed our modest walk through the new promenade and towards our tasty treat. I should have ordered the butter brickle, but I'm stuck in my classic ice cream bar ways. We found some shade on a nearby bench on this very hot summer day. Otherwise, maybe we would have wandered over to the Berkley Bedell State Pier, or sat down at the tables just outside the Nutty Bar parlor. We'll be back next season to happily start the process all over again. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was..... read more

Delicious treats after a morning on the beach. Great outdoor seating that is shaded and has good views of the passing boats. No wait at all. Staff was eager to take our orders and were quick with filling our order. Very pleasant experience that will make this a must every time we come to Okobji. read more

Good ice cream and root beer. Easy access and good service. Fresh looking decor. Nutty bars are a traditional experience.

A must-go destination if you're vacationing in Okoboji! This is probably one of the most referenced places by people who come here to check out and for good reason! Their nutty bar is (obviously) their staple. It's a homemade block of vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate and peanuts. You get a large ice cream for $3! We also tried their root beer float which was great with their home brewed root beer, but I personally feel that the nutty bar is too good to pass up. Wish I took pictures but it was too good that I ate it too quickly! Be prepared for a line and note that they mostly have patio/outdoor seating. Will be coming back as much as I can while in town! read more

Amazing ice cream bars and pot beer floats and what a great local tradition! I have been coming here for over 50 years !

Been coming for years now best part of vacation always good place and good Service very nice people and very child friendly

You gotta get a nutty bar if you like ice cream. Favorite childhood treat of many. It's only $3! Cheap for a amusement park snack. Treat for all ages. The stand itself could use a little more cleaning. I like the old register they used. read more

Such a fun and convenient place to get a dessert! Their ice cream bars, floats, and other desserts were great and not too expensive.

Always a favorite! Quality and uniform every time. Delicious and good that we can only visit while on vacation. They're addictive!

The Nutty Bar stand was an institution of my childhood. Somehow at an early age, I decided ice cream wasn't my thing (I've since come to my senses) and would instead opt for a frozen banana every time we visited. WITHOUT nuts, please. Go figure, that's still what I order today and they are just as good. I'm well aware that the Nutty Bar stand also has root beer floats, ice cream cones, and other myriad offerings, but I don't care. When we're approaching Arnold's Park on the boat and that Nutty Bar stand comes into view, it's all I can do to keep from swimming the rest of the way in order to get some of that chocolate-covered banana goodness. read more

If you're a local you don't need Yelp for this one. But for a new visitor: a relic of Classic Americana. Have held the line on the $1 price of a frozen mug of delicious super-sweet root beer since...well at least the last 18 summers I've been coming here. Friendly owner and service -- just an overall family tradition and we will NEVER miss it -- or the nutty bars. Good variety of ice cream flavors too. read more

I actually have dreams about these... BEST ice cream treat I've ever had!!! Vacationed at Lake Okoboji on large family reunions as a child and had sibling reunions in 2005 and 2007 at Fillenworth Beach so I was within walking distance to the Nutty Bar Stand for my daily 1 or 2 bars :-) Can you ever ship to Evanston, IL??? Would love to take them to our family reunion in Galena in September! read more

After visiting the amusement park, we needed a treat and hit the Nutty Bar based on reviews. Only one person in our group ordered the nutty bar, said it was very hard. Everyone else order a scoop of ice cream, which was a big scoop. I wish the menu would have had the kiddie scoop listed, not so much for a smaller price but for a smaller scoop. After we had received our order, another family came in and ordered a kiddie scoop. I see other reiviews mentioning how friendly the service was, our service was just adequate, nothing rude but definitely nothing friendly or over the top. read more
