Fabulous first time visit!! I called the Nutley Animal Hospital because I was in need of a doctor and couldn't find one, we had an unhappy our current vet. My dog was suffering with what we thought was an ear infection. Renee, at the front desk was excellent. She realized how concerned I was, and in major need of a veterinarian. She was able to give us an appointment right away. Zeus, my Belgian Malinios can be very skittish and scared. Everyone was wonderful with him. He especially loved Samantha, one of the assistance and he was very comfortable with the veterinarian. He let them take him in the back with no problem, he was such a good boy !! Needless to say we have found our new Vet and we are so happy. Zeus had a double ear infection, and one of his ears was really bad. It's been almost a week and he's doing so much better! I have an 11 year old female pitbull. I knew my dog had dental issues so I made an appointment to have a dental procedure. Nutley animal vet had the pre dental procedures done on my dog and said she did well. I was charged $500. Then they canceled my dogs dental procedure because they said her symptoms plus her age. I took her to Clark animal hospital for 2nd opinion. The vet at Clark gave my dog antibiotics, anti inflammatory med and a medicated mouth wash. My dog today is 100% better and doesn't have a tumor or cancer like Nutley animal vet assumed. My dog will have her dental procedure next week. Nutley never once offered my dog any medication or treatment....they said my dog was too old to take care of. Nutley animal hospital said my dogs lymph nodes were swollen but it was her salivary ducts that were swollen due to her dental issues. Horrible vet care and didn't care about my dog at all!! read more

Two Saturdays ago I saw Dr. Odelugo with my very sick cat Henry. I'd never seen him before and because my regular vet Dr. Gennace is off on Saturdays and I was very concerned I saw him. I was extremely happy with his personal manner, professionalism and concern for me and my Henry. Unfortunately Henry was worse off than I thought and at Dr. Odelugo's strong suggestion I took him to an animal ER for overnight which verified what he and I feared. My poor Henry passed away at home a few days later. Both he and Dr. Gennace called to offer their condolences. I can't tell you how much I appreciated that! So again this week my Ziggy saw Dr. O (Dr. Gennace is on vacation) and tomorrow my Dolly will go in also. Because of what happened with Henry and because they are both showing things that concern me, I didn't want to wait until she came back. Bottom line: I am now so very grateful to have 2 wonderful veterinarians I can depend on when my pets need veterinary care. And the office staff and techs couldn't be nicer. My Pomeranian puppy had a lot of GI problems when I first got him. Dr. Tuttman, Renee, and Danny all went above and beyond to get to the bottom of it, including contacting me often during off hours, squeezing us in for appointments at the last minute, and referring us to specialists. The only nice person here was the first receptionist that took down my information to make an appointment and the guy named Danny that had brought my dog in. This older woman in the front was rude. I told her I had work calls so if there was another way of communicating and she just looked at me like I had four eyes basically giving off the notion of "oh well too bad". How else do you expect me to pay for the bill you're charging me for...? The vet was really informative and thorough but when she mentioned I had to bring a urine sample the next morning and I said I didn't live too close she says "Oh well, I have to drive far too" who says that to a paying client? I'll only be returning because she's aware of the condition of my dog otherwise I would take her elsewhere. read more

dr. Re is an amazing vet and I love him. Very dedicated very knowledgeable. But today I have my cat who is not well, and sneezing. Dr. Re is not in. I explained to the receptionist that the cat needs to be seen. He's sneezing for two days over the weekend. The only available appointment was Saturday morning. Today is Monday. Even though I explained to her I cannot wait six days for the cat to be seen. That is the only available appointment. Are you kidding me ? I called another vet and got the appointment the same day just a few hours from my phone call. I have been going to Nutley Animal Hospital for over 30 years With many many of our cats, and dogs. I am not happy about this. It's not workable and dangerous to a sick animal. read more

I went there with a puppy for a checkup a microchip and first booster shots. My appointment didn't matter as i waited 45 minutes, so don't be in a rush. The Dr was kind and gave my puppy a rabies shot first. The puppy freaked out and screamed and struggled. He was very dramatic. Suffice it to say the Dr didn't want to give him his booster because "he's already stressed". I don't know why that matters as he needs to get use to it. So he didn't want to give him the other shot and told me come back. I asked for the microchip and he said no, the needle is large and we should wait until i get him neutered when he is under anesthesia. That makes no sense to me because what if my puppy got stolen or ran away now. Why do i have to wait 6 months for security? I paid $150. For a rabies shot that i could have got in my town for free. I don't think I'll be back there as i need a microchip and the booster shots still. read more

I asked. Even if your time is scheduled, you will be waiting at least an hour or more, especially if it's a Saturday. So, between the rude staff and the disregard for people's time, this is not a very family friendly vet that I would continue to bring my pet to. read more

I'm done with this vet clinic. Not so much because of the vets, but the staff is just NASTY! The past couple times I have scheduled an appointment I had to wait over 45 minutes. Yes, I understand there are emergencies, but every time? If this is the case, schedule your appointments further apart. This last time, I had to leave because I had another appointment to get to. I told the staff several times about this, and was just met with defensive and dismissive attitudes. I really can't stand it when people don't respect your time...AT ALL. Made a 10AM appt, 10:45 the staff has said absolutely nothing, and can't even tell me when I might be able to see the doctor. At least have some compassion and tell people when they come in, we're running behind - it might be a while. Or do a check in with the vet, so you can tell people 10 more mins, etc in between animals. Why bother making an appt if you can't even come close to meeting that time. Better yet, if you're running over a 1/2 hour behind, how about calling your patients and telling them to come in a little later so you don't waste their time. If any place did that, I'd be a customer for life, singing from the rooftops to try and get them more customers, because it would show they give a crap. Also - I only made the appt to do shots here versus the clinic because I didn't want to have to wait, if I'm willing to wait I'll go to People for Animals where the shots are $15 each, yes $15 each versus $60 at Nutley Animal Hosptial. Then I can drop a donation on my way out to cover a spay/neuter and still end up on top. Also - NEVER get your dog's nails trimmed here. Its $25 or more, and you can pay $5 and go to the doggie groomer on Pacific. Over priced, waste of my time. read more

Brought my cat there to find out why she was coughing. They did not know what was wrong, tested her for hyperthyroidism, she did not have that, first bill came to $500. Now was told they still don't know what is wrong with her could be lung infection she would need xrays which would be another $500. Told them her sister had cancer two months ago and we had to put her down. Getting second opinion because I feel like I am getting the run around and they should have checked first to see if she has cancer! Don't need to spend another $700 to find out it is not lung infection. I had to call again to get first test results as they never called me back! Thanks Dr. Re for nothing!!!! Took our 4 month old puppy to the vet for vaccinations and physical exam. As part of the routine checkup, they examined his ears and confirmed they were clean and healthy. The next day, he came down with a pretty aggressive ear infection that logically couldn't have been caused by anything other than the dirty, wet instrument that was used to look in his ear. Not to mention, we ended up sitting in the waiting room for 45 minutes prior to being seen, despite having an appointment. Overall, the vet seemed very inexperienced and uncomfortable (almost scared) around our (very well behaved) puppy. Her answers to our questions were very generalized and unhelpful. We were able to find more in-depth and helpful information from a simple Google search....so....there's that. read more

I only have amazing things to say about Nutley Animal Hospital. Dr. Tuttman is extremely kind, patient, and knowledgeable. I truly appreciate the care she gives my dogs and how she answers any questions I may have. I have taken my two chihuahuas to this hospital multiple times, and every appointment has gone very well. Nutley animal hospital is staying safe and clean during the pandemic. They sanitize rooms before and after appointments, before you can go in. They also have customers social distance and a plastic barrier when speaking to receptionists and paying. They also require face masks in the building. I read the not so good reviews and wonder if they were isolated incidents. I am not sure. All I know is I dislike my vet's office personnel staff so much. ( I won't say who they are) My 7 year old Italian Greyhound needed to be put to sleep. I wanted this last experience for her and I to go as smoothly and compassionately as possible. We sometimes fail to get that info from our vet's on how exactly this is handled. No one wants to be sitting in a room full of waiting clients crying as you wait your turn. I had a girlfriend who lives in AZ call all around my area to ask pointed questions on how this is handled. And she came across Nutley Animal Hospital. She said Kim helped her, answered all her questions and put her mind at ease for me. She made an appt for that day. I was escorted to a room. I spoke w/ Dr McMahon for quite a while and then I was given all the time i needed. I had to have been there 2.5 hrs. When the time came, I was explained in depth how it was to be performed. I was allowed to sit down w/ her in a blanket in my arms. I felt comforted by their professionalism and grace only meeting us for the 1st time. I was allowed to sit w/her as long as I needed. They made me a clay paw print that i picked up a few days later. I know its difficult for any vet to give their personal opinion and value why they shouldn't. But, to hear a vet say, "This is what I would do if it were my own pet" is a very relieving and comforting thought. And, to follow it up with, "You did the right thing" is even better when you leave there w/o your baby. I am happy that when I look back. These are the moments I will remember. LOVE this place... I have been going here for over three years now and I couldn't be happier with the service that they provide. The doctor's are great with my dog, the receptionists are very welcoming and accommodating, and it is very clean. You can tell that they truly care about your animal, and will do whatever it takes to make them better. Rusty (my golden retriever) got sick last year, and they were so great with him, and they would not stop until they figured out what was wrong. Now he is as good as new, and loves going to visit the staff when it is time for his next appointment . Colleen, the office manager, is very kind, and very relatable. The technicians are constantly coming out to the waiting room and visiting with the animals while they wait. DO NOT GO HERE. For my initial appointment, I received a call that I had to send all of my cat's medical records before the appointment, or they would cancel (we are new clients). I had made a same day appointment, so I didn't have enough time to get the records. I rescheduled for 2 weeks later and made sure to email all records the day BEFORE our appointment. I arrive the day of my appointment (10 minutes early) and call to check in; I'm told they don't have my records and people "usually bring them their self on Saturdays." COMPLETELY contradictory to what I was told 2 weeks prior. Then we weren't even "seen" until 11:40am, 40 minutes past my appointment!!!! Don't tell me my appointment is at 11 if you're not actually going to see me until almost noon. The vet seemed nice on the phone but I am VERY frustrated that she didn't seem to listen to what I said. I said I know my cat is overweight; I restrict her food; I have another cat who eats the same amount and is not fat; so I believe there's a medical reason for my cat's weight and I wanted tests. Vet calls me after the exam and just says my cat is overweight and needs to go on a diet. I LITERALLY EXPLAINED WHAT THE ISSUE WAS AND WHAT I WANTED DONE. The receptionist on the phone was SO incredibly rude; it disgusted me. She appeared irritated when I asked about the 15% discount for new clients that is ADVERTISED on your website. So so so angry with the service I received. It's especially sad because my neighbor recommended you guys to me after I received TERRIBLE service from Arlington Hospital. I cannot say enough good things about Nutley Animal Hospital and the Groom Room. (The Groom Room is associated with this hospital.) I moved to Nutley about a year ago. Finding a great vet for my Golden Retriever/Cocker Spaniel mix was more important than finding a doctor for me. Nutley Animal Hospital: At times, I wished Dr. Re was my personal doctor. Super kind, very thorough, explained any tests or procedures he thought were needed, high energy, and available to talk when I had both big and little questions. I knew I found a great vet when Murphy snuggled into Dr. Re's chest during an exam and Dr. Re gave him a kiss on the head. Groom Room: Cathy is a terrific, talented groomer. I loved the interaction she had with Murphy. She made me feel welcome every time I visited, even when it wasn't for a grooming appointment. Cathy is both compassionate and kind. I want to post, because I am just so happy with the experience I had. Called my current vet that I had a sick cat. No appointments til December. Nice, as a pet owner who had a history with 3 cats. Told me to call another vet. I did and it was Nutley Amimal Hospital. They helped me out with my baby that passed in a blackout on a weekend. I was able to take my baby there and they welcomed me with open arms. I now have only 3 cats left from 13. Yes you have to wait, covid rules. I took my adopted cat and they were so kind. They could have suggested many expensive procedures, but they did not. Wonderful staff and Dr. I have been to many Vets after 23 years of animals. Burned and scarred from many. I would recommend them. Some reviews are just from people that maybe are not happy with anything. Love them. read more

I unfortunately had to rush my dog here about a month ago it was an emergency situation and my dog could not be saved. Everything happened so fast we were in absolute panic and this was the closest hospital. Everyone seemed very compassionate however I am mortified and still cannot get over how my dog was presented to us. The dog was just 1.5 years old and she was my little sisters dog. We were just told the dog had passed and were in extreme agony. After stepping outside to cry our eyes out and make some calls I see the vet or who ever she was come out with my dog wrapped up in a plastic bag with a knot on it and duck tape to keep it closed. I was in such sock I was sick to my stomach but had to be strong for my little sister who was frantically trying to open the bag to see her dog !! We had to see our dog on the curb/bench in front of the fucking building ! Of course we were in such shock that we took the dog and left . We did not get the curtesy to even see our dog in a room properly or even got a heads up that they were bringing the dog out. This all happened in 20 mins! Then they gave us a bill for something close to 600$. I called the next day and spoke to a women who was very sympathetic and that is the only reason I waited to write this review but I honestly can't get the image of how they brought our dog out of my head. I am extremely angry that this happend to us the way it did. The girl who brought the dog out seemed inexperienced. This was not a small dog she was a pit bull imagine handing a dog over of that size like here you go ! Unacceptable ! And yes they informed me the bag my dog was in is what they use to hand over a dead animal but it's still a plastic bag ! I hope no one ever had to experience what we did ! Typically I wouldn't leave a bad review as I understand that everyone and every business will have days when things don't go as planned. That being said, I have had three appointments and have had to wait at least an hour or more each time. Now while I understand that medical offices get backed up due the nature of the conversations being had with patients, I do believe staff should inform patients of the wait so that we can also manage our valuable time. Just tell me you are backed up so I can plan or make alternate arrangements. I have decided to go back to Rutherford Animal Hospital, where we had gone previously. They always managed the expectation and let you know if there was going to be an excessive wait. Dr. Re has been taking care of my dogs for years. He is very thorough and will answer all of your questions. A dedicated professional. The office staff treat my girls with love and care. I've read from here that they're more expensive than other vets, but I wouldn't know because I've only ever gone to Nutley. And, honestly, I always receive the exceptional service I pay for, so it never crosses my mind. I also don't understand having to wait as others said...the longest I've waited was 15 minutes. This is a vet I have taken my dogs to for the past five years For five years I have watched the receptionist now office worker speak to people who bring their animals to this facility with such disregard. I tolerated her because of Dr McMahon. Today I took my dog their in an emergency. I watched Dr McMahon fix a TV and not seeing sick animals. If someone can tell me animals has an interest in TV I would say well done. But I think not If a Vet is more interested in TV they should not be in this profession. My animals are family. I was told by more than one person to change I was welcomed to Cedar Grove Animal Hospital. Note there is no TV's in the lobby to fix. I firmly believe better care will be provided. And the receptionist. There is only one instead of a slew of unhelpful people as at Nutley Animal Hospital. And she is nice. All of the docs and the support staff at the Nutley Animal Hospital are amazing. Dr. Re is my current vet and has attended to three of my dogs over the years. His genuine care, concern and capabilities are always in evidence. He's thorough in his examinations and always has a solution for even the most difficult of problems. I trust him completely with the care of my pets, who I consider family as most pet owners do. The support staff all are very professional and caring individuals as well, starting with Colleen O'Brien, the office manager, the receptionists and the attendants. I have moved to the shore area in recent years and still make the trek up due to the trust in their care and how they treat my dogs. You can't go wrong here. read more

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE, I have never experienced a place so greedy and money hungry. Your pet could be healthy as can be and they will mock up 1,000 dollar bill each and every time. I cannot stress enough the scam there-every single doctor will tell you that your pet could have 5 different things, let's test for all and go from there. And, guess what? Each time, it was never anything my pet was tested for. Please find any other vet if you love your pet, do not go here.
