I would absolutely NOT recommend this property to anyone looking to vacation…read more Totally dated, terribly overpriced and the MOLD in every bathroom was just awful!!! A terrible layout and very OLD furniture for way too much money. DO NOT STAY HERE OR BOOK FOR YOUR VACATION!!!! You will be terribly disgusted.

Unfortunately we had to leave a day early due to TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE... more on that in a minute. We stayed in one of the "suites" in the Little Belle -an aging mini ski village at the base of the chairlift to the ski hills. As it was August, the village was pretty quiet. Our room, Suite 10 was located on the second floor and while spacious, had several flaws including a broken gas fireplace (not really an issue in August), stained carpet, broken base molding, a tiny bathroom with a phone-booth sized shower with a slow drain, a ridiculous 1990s whirlpool tub set in the middle of the bedroom along with a tiny pedestal sink. At more than $350/night ($400 on the weekend) given the modest quality of the room, this would be for me a 2 or 3-star place, at best. Unfortunately we received a shocking text Friday night (see photo) with less than 12 hours notice that the electricity would be shut off at 8 am on SATURDAY for an indeterminate time frame in our section of the property and that they were sorry. Obviously I called asking to move to a different part of the resort but was told they were full. I'm thinking, well emergencies happen, but after additional calls, I found out, no, in fact they had a power issue a couple of weeks ago and have been running off a generator. Further, while there was no time frame for the repair, they were "HOPING to have it done by mid afternoon."!!!!! As we had a 4 pm wedding, this was obviously not going to be acceptable to be without power, hot water or a room for what was expected to be a rainy day. We just couldn't rely on the HOPE that we could get back into the (electric door locks after all) and HOPE we would have enough time to get ready and HOPE there would be hot water... I think you get the idea! Luckily I was able to find a hotel in Empire with a room we could book for 1 night when I called at 9 pm. They were super nice when I explained our situation and promised to get a room cleaned as quickly as possible then call us so we wouldn't have an issue with the 4 pm wedding-No THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE! (Hint to the Homestead). What I can't get over is the tone-deafness of the text. Clearly they knew about this issue when we arrive to check in on THURSDAY yet only notified us late the night before when we and the other suckers were stuck with no options during the busy tourist season?! I don't know about you but we travel frequently and stay in hotels of all levels 50-60 nights a year and have never experienced such a cavalier level of customer service. While this is a nice area to visit, I'll never stay at the Homestead again and hope my experience will inform your decision as well. Good riddance!

Shanty Creek Cedar River Lodge…read more We stayed for four days and three nights between Christmas and New Years in room 229 in the Cedar River Lodge at Shanty Creek Resort. Note, all my photos are after 4 days in the room :) The website is not very helpful for reserving. You really need to call. Call during normal business hours so you can speak to someone with a bit more knowledge on the properties. The place is big and has lots of options. Cedar River Lodge is a great choice if you are coming to ski. The ski school, rentals, and lift tickets are all here. The lodge is at the base of the purple lift making it easy to get out and ski. Downside- no free place to store your equipment. We had to drag it up to our room. But the room has a balcony. There is a lot of space under the bathroom sink. I brought a rug and we put our ski boots under there. Bonus, the heater hits them and they were nice and toasty. Room 229 was close to the elevators (there are 2) which was nice. There is laundry ($2 a load) on the floor along with an ice maker. The one bedroom room was great. You enter a kitchen area with laminate floor. We grabbed extra towels from the pool area to use to mop up water from ski boots when we entered. Kept the carpeted area dry. There was a sink, microwave, good size dorm fridge with small freezer area (however the fridge door was on backwards. Pain to open, someone should have switched it when installing). An actual kitchen table with 4 chairs was great. There is also a closet in the kitchen for coats and such with 6 hangers. The living space had a couch, chair, end table, coffee table, gas fire place, large tv with sofa table and slider to a balcony (slider door was really hard to open). The couch pulls out into a bed. The closet had sheets and a blanket for it. The fireplace had timer buttons behind the tv. The tv had two HDMI outputs and I brought an extension cord so we were able to hook up our Amazon fire stick and a Nintendo switch which was great. Hotel has free WiFi. There was enough space to add my drying rack and another small folding table to help hold all our stuff. We put our cooler on the balcony which also had two chairs and a small table. The bedroom is a separate room with a door, two queen beds, dresser with second tv, standing wardrobe, one night stand between the beds. The standing wardrobe had dozen hangers. There was a full sized ironing board and iron, I used it as a table in the bedroom. The bed was quite firm, not my favorite but I know some people prefer it. The drapes didn't really close well. Might bring a clip next time. The resort has three main places to stay. At Cedar River there was an outdoor pool and two outdoor hot tubs open till 11pm (though one hot tub was down for repairs when we stayed). The other two places, Schuss and Lakeview, both had indoor pools and hot tubs. Our room key let us use all 3 which was a treat for our 12 year old. Lakeview did have an outdoor pool but it was closed when we visited. None of the pools were deeper than 5 feet. For the lack of snow, the skiing was pretty good. They really did their best. All of the staff was super nice and helpful, they'd ask someone else if they didn't know the answer. I'd highly recommend the resort. We would go again.

So many stairs, we had to go down a level, then up a short flight of stairs. Nothing is clearly marked. Trying to navigate from one area of the resort to another was an adventure. Apple Maps is confused with this place. The food was ok. The service in the restaurant was ok. Do know that there are no free refills - so you won't be surprised to find a $10.50 charge for 3 iced-teas!! Many foreign employees and language is a barrier for many of them. Our room was clean and spacious. Unfortunately, there is an underlying odor of must/mold which is strong in the bottom level. The views are beautiful. The Legend and Cedar River golf courses were nice to play. It was a nice time, but I do not think I'd choose to return.

This was a Tuesday night in February, so we were able to get a very good price on a double queen suite. Room was clean, comfortable and no issues. We had planned to go skiing Tuesday evening but ended up at the pool with our kids. The main lodge has a decent size pool that starts indoors and continues outdoors. There is an indoor hot tub and an outdoor hot tub. Also there are two Saunas. The kids were enjoying themselves so much we didn't even get to go skiing! On Wednesday we got breakfast at the top of the hill. We have eaten here before and it's always been good. After breakfast we got our gear and headed to the slopes. Treetops isn't a huge hill, but for the value midweek and 3 lifts, it's was a great time. We got started right at 10am and skied until about 4pm before heading home. There was almost no traffic and it was non stop skiing. The kids loved it as well and really enjoyed the beginners terrain park they built.

The pool area was fairly clean with just a little bit of salt on the floor from people's shoes/boots. I had on flip flops, so it was ok. I enjoyed the hot tub, though it's highly chlorinated, and my favorite part was the steam room. That was very nice. They provide robes, flip flops and towels. We got scalp massages and Dazzle Dry manicures and both services were great. I especially enjoyed Emily who did my nails; she was skilled and quite pleasant to talk to. The wax dip is amazing and this Dazzle Dry polish is already lasting so much longer than regular polish. Love it. They also had really cute clothing in the lounge area - I was quite tempted by a couple of things. I would for sure return. It was such a lovely day after skiing.

It had a café, five individual lifts, plenty of fun trails and a massive terrain park. The café at Otsego was a very nice one, and had a large fire which was great to come into on a cold day. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there for too long, and therefore couldn't see too many things that they served, but one thing I know was that the hot chocolate is great and the candy bars are delicious. The trails at Otsego were also great, but had a bit of a higher skill level. They had a few easy blues and greens, like Für Elise and Alan's alley for begenners, but no bunny hill, a load of blacks like waterfall and master's, two steep duo trails that me and my dad very much liked and even a few fun double blacks like Bob's Glade, a exciting and adrenaline-giving slope that emptied out into a easy green. The terrain park was also super fun, with gigantic jumps that sent me very high up into the air but no rails, which was ok but not as cool as it could be. The only rail I could find was a few rotten blocks of wood that someone had thrown together and then left to the power of the forest.
