We politely declined because we prefer to look on our own and ask for help if we can't find something. We eventually found everything we needed, went to the register, and PAID for our items. After we had already paid, the same employee told us he needed to check our bag because they had been having problems with people stealing. I found this extremely uncomfortable, embarrassing, and completely unnecessary. We did absolutely nothing suspicious. We were simply customers taking our time comparing supplements and deciding what we wanted to purchase. Being followed around the store was uncomfortable enough, but then being asked to have our bag checked after paying made it feel like we had been watched and suspected of stealing the entire time. I understand that businesses deal with theft, but that does not justify making paying customers feel like criminals. If there is a store policy requiring bags to be checked, it should be applied consistently to customers--not brought up after someone has been followed around the store. We came in, looked around, found what we needed, and paid for everything. Instead of leaving satisfied with our purchase, we left feeling singled out, embarrassed, and unwelcome.
