Today was a great day to visit the store.. Linda who I have never seen before asked "if I needed anything" and after a few short minutes I actually had a few questions... There were three items that I needed help with and some education on them. She was quick to tell me differences, comparisons, and what item options were available. She checked out of stocks and tried to locate items for me. She spent time sharing what would potentially work for me and gave me clear understanding of the items in question. I really appreciated her knowledgeable, her positive and genuine energy and the fact she showed real support toward me and my confusion on items trying to find the right item that would be a good fit. I've come into this location multiple times and the girl at the front desk consistently comes off very rude and unprofessional. Even without directly interacting with her, her attitude, facial expressions, and overall demeanor toward customers feel very standoffish and unwelcoming. A friendly environment and professionalism matter a lot in customer service, and unfortunately this location does not always give that experience. read more

I visited the South Gate store first on Firestone Blvd. It is about half the size of the Downey store. They tend to have less product for obvious reasons due to lack of space. I then returned to the Downey store for the larger inventory and the 2 gentlemen working there today were awesome. Very courteous, professional and knowledgeable. I was in this store fir over fifteen minutes and no one ever asked me if I needed any assistance. The store was not crowded ; there may have been two other customers inside at the time. There were two employees behind the register just hanging out and talking and there was one other employee sticking the shelf. From the moment I walked inside I had already known exactly what I wanted but I was just browsing. And as I previously mentioned no one offered to assist me. After coming to this store for years, I'm done. We deal with multiple sclerosis in our household and in public and would think that an establishment devoted to health and well being would be a touch sensitive to the disabled. Multiple sclerosis is a savage disease that ravages the digestive system. Zachery and management kept us waiting longer than necessary because a return became problematic because they were not able to do basic math. My daughter who needed to use their restroom badly was denied. I opted to take my money and run. Basic math skills are one thing not being human is another. I'm regretting the thousands of dollars I've poured into this place over the years and strongly implore u to go elsewhere. read more

I come here over GNC because of the selection. There are definitely more options here if you are plant-based, keto, or just looking to supplement some protein. I should say, VS offers a better selection of "cleaner" products. I was disappointed they were out of stock on the protein powder I use, although it showed they had one left in the system. Perhaps they need to have someone focus on stocking while the other staff just ring customers up? There were plenty of boxes on the sales floor. I have been shopping at this Downey location since it has opened, after previously driving to other locations for a decade. I have been wanting to share my gratitude for more than a year now especially for the experiences with the kind and attentive employees. I am always greeted with sincerity by the helpful and knowledgeable staff. No matter how many questions I had for the kindest very tall young man (Louis?) I had, ...his patience was everlasting, as he is always genuinely generous with his time, and his eyes -as sometimes I couldn't make out the tiny writing to ensure I had gotten the right product... and he never seems bothered. During the Covid start the entire staff's positivity and helpfulness became a real comfort as they were unwavering to extend help and answer any questions, look for products, tell me options when sales could apply, etc. Carin(?) continually shows she cares for shoppers' getting what they need or at least the most information if items are in stock, on sale, or discontinued, which I witness her extend to every single person who enters when I visit. It's just ultimately seems she cares that all people feel helped if she can. Which is just awesome to experience her genuine nature. :) As most shoppers are in concern for feeling that we can help ourselves better by supplements and regimens, ...sometimes our hope remains on the experiment of a new product or the reliability of brands... We have been looking for pure peppermint oil that could be taken orally for a long time. My daughter suffers from really bad I.B.S. and her doctor suggested she try it, but finding it has been hard. We come in this shopping center quite a bit. Parking is plentiful, and i love the variety of shopping and restaurants. So glad we stopped in here the other day. The service was not the friendliest so we broke up and looked for the product on our own, found it. And it was way cheapier than this IBGard we've been using that works" sometimes." The Vitamin Shoppe at the Downey Landing Discriminated Against Me Based upon my Dark and Short Physical Appearance I went into this shop at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. I intended to purchase "Dr. Bronner" or "Grandpa" brand bar soaps as I prefer to use those brands, especially Peppermint for the hotter weather that I knew was coming this weekend. I always buy these soaps here and I often spend $30 per visit. I entered the store and standing at the counter, with apparently no one else in the store, was a young white woman, about 24 years old, about 5'8, heavyset, pale skin, and long dirty blonde hair-whom I had never before seen; and a young Latin guy, a bit short like I am, he's about 22 I suppose. I had seen him there before. They both said welcome, and I said hello back, but I noticed the woman was unsmiling. She looked at me gravely, with what I interpreted as a suspicious and wholly unfriendly look, as if I were committing an intrusion....So after taking note of her long face, I walked past them both in the direction of the soap area. As I passed parallel but not close by to her, she called out across the store, "Do You Know Where you're going sir?" I had noticed her face fall in a miserable look as soon as she realized I was entering the store, so believe it or not, I wasn't at all surprised by her hostile, inhospitable, and rude conduct. I quickly glanced at her and nodded toward the aisle I intended to peruse while saying "soaps." Both employees were looking at me as though I had transformed into a green martian or some sort of something....It was a sad experience for me, and a bad memory I shan't soon forget. At once I lost all desire and exuberance to shop, let alone be present in the same room as that mean woman--so much so that I didn't even bother going further into the store. From a distance I could observe the soaps I use were once again low on stock and they didn't have Peppermint. But quite frankly I had decided there and then that the Vitamin Shoppe did not deserve my money....I chose to take my business to their shop and for that "privilege" not only am I subjected to a frowning and ignorant 20-something, I have to endure her inappropriate and prejudiced questions...."Do You Know Where you're going, sir?" It can only be because I'm dark and short....My personal appearance and hygiene are both immaculate. I speak manor-house caliber English, I'm a veteran of both the Navy and the Army, a top-20 university alumnus, a former law clerk for the district attorney....So what else could it be? My attire? I was wearing brand new clean white $300 Ralph Lauren trousers, a clean white collared shirt, brand new Lacoste deck shoes, a Lacoste wristwatch...what was it? There is only one answer and there's no point in being delicate about it: This woman is of such profound ignorance and lacking so in worldly sophistication that she obviously assumed that I was a shoplifting criminal due solely to the color of my skin. Where she learned that pathological mindset and how she made her way through the hiring process and onto the floor of the Vitamin Shoppe in Downey is not an uncommon narrative. But it's not my problem to correct. I'll just buy my bars of soap at a different chain or, better yet, online from the manufacturers directly so I can avoid such halfwits that presume to lay their hate upon me. read more

Non existent customer service. Found my way to selection of supplements that I needed, but changed my mind and decided not to purchase from them. Another customer also noticed the apparent non-acknowledgement of our presences, looked at me and asked "does anyone even work here?" We had a good chuckle. Apparently those three employees (two men and one woman) were more interested discussing their personal lives. I mean how interesting could their lives be? They're in their early twenties, or thirties? One of them has a beard. And they work for a vitamin store, okay? P.s. we came in today around 6 pm with barely any customers there. Suggestion? Cutdown on staff and get a self check out counter. Walk into the shop a week ago Sunday , Was immediately greeted by Corrine in a very upbeat and friendly way. I proceed to look around so she started to attend a different customer i over heard all the questions the customer was asking her and I was impressed by Corrine's knowledge and patience to help the customer. So after she finished up she approached me again i was there to see what supplements were good to take for someone just starting to diet and workout . After 20 mins or so with Corrine she had gave me great advice and recommend what supplements i should try . Can't believe I would drive by this place on my way to the gym. I've never been in one until a couple of days ago. I walked in with the intentions of just browsing through the aisle but was shocked at all of the amazing product they have in stock. They have pancake mix with high amounts of protein! I was in awe so I quickly grabbed one as well as a high protein nut butter that was recommended by the staff. This place is great and the products I bought are delicious. Now I'm enjoying delicious pancakes without having to worry about it being bad for me. They are extremely puffy and go well with the nut butter spread. Best post workout breakfast. I am an Avid Vitamin Shoppe shopper and fan, and I DO like the Brand. I am grading my visit on this day a two stars because as a customer, dislike being dismissed or even lied too. I came in here for a product I buy regularly, I knew what I wanted and marched to right where it was, but it turned out there was not stock. I asked one of the associates if they where planning on ordering more and he advised me that they had received a shipment on that day, but that it was still in the back and that they would replenish the stock later that day because at the moment the were very "Busy", say What? I was the only person in the store and he was just standing there, so I said what time would you have them ready out here? and then he said 'Well, first we have to see if we have any in this shipment" WHAT?, didn't you just said you had it in the back but that you were to busy to stock now?, way to change your tune dude. There is also a person there who is either and assistant manager or a manager who is less than enthusiastic in helping customers, I have walked in past her on some of my visits there and is like a breeze just came in through the door, not customer acknowledgement, no "Welcome", nothing. In this story there are also on the other side of the spectrum, some very nice guys and girls in occasion who are truly helpful, and will assist you and answer questions, so Kudos to them. I will still shop at this vitamin specialty store, but it would be nice if they staff (some of them) acted more cordial and paid more attention to their clientele. Customers can be picky so to each his own is my take on some of these other reviews. I've visited this store on several different occasions. I usually rather try to find things on my own, that way it gives me time to browse and find my way around the shop for future visits. However, I didn't mind the young lady helping me when she did. I didn't get her name and I feel bad because she's been there a few times that I've visited the shop and each time being very helpful. This store always has what I need. They always answer the phone as I've phoned a couple times beforehand just to find out if they carried a particular item or brand. The young lady who helped me also told me that they will price match amazon dollar for dollar. So if you see your exact item advertised on amazon for less as for the amazon price and it will be honored. The young lady even looked it up for me as my phone would not work in the store. The last time I visited there were two guys and they helped me as well. The cashier even asked if I wanted to use my reward which I didn't know I had. Such a win!!! The 1 Star is for the customer service i got. They young (Asian) girl that help me seem and looked as if she did not want to help me at all! She had this look on her face like she did not care to help me and just wanted to get off work. (It was and hour before the store closed) There are different flavors for C4 and I did not know what was the difference. She didn't care to explain at all so I decided to just buy the small bottle of C4 that is already made and go to a different Vitamin shoppe where i would get better customer service. If this employee doesn't want to be at a work place where she has to help customers then she should consider looking for a different job where customers don't need to see her face and how miserable so looks and feels. read more
