Love a hybrid business. This independent book store and coffee shop has most things I could ask for: wifi, coffee (and non coffee drinks), snacks, and seating. Their displays of books are well curated, and they have some knickknacks and gifts for that eccentric person in your life. I do wish the cafe had some gluten free options (pastries looked and smelled so good. The whole area smelled like butter.). And would like an alt milk option that isn't nuts, soy, or oat based (like coconut milk!). Free parking in the back. read more

Shop local when and where you can! Of all the indie book stores, this one has the most selection. I even found the book I was looking for! Nowhere focuses on local, cultural, LGBTQIA, and overall a very diverse selection of books. They also host big events like speakers. Nowhere is about the size of your average Half Price Books and as someone else said, it's like stepping into a grown-up Scholastic Book Fair. Socks, bookmarks, cards, they sell so many things. Towards the back they also have a coffee shop! I need to go back and order a cortado for my review series. You can tell this shop is well-loved. It was extremely crowded. Staff remained in excellent spirits providing top notch customer service. I fell in love with this shop immediately. I was already a fan based on word of mouth. Nowhere a book lover would rather be. It is a chill place, without much noise to work, read, or study. There is a cafe in the back to keep you caffeinated or hydrated with a couple little bakery snacks. They have the Red Velvet muffin which is really good and fluffy. Cappuccino is my go-to! The books are organized nicely, with little paper markers around that tell you the staff's notes about a book before you pick one up. Nice touch for the occasional reader like myself. The kids area is up the platform on the left corner of the store. There is a cool sitting area by the window where you and the little one can read. I drive up and down this stretch of Broadway all the time and somehow had never noticed Nowhere Bookshop until this past weekend, when I was walking back to my car after visiting another business in the shopping center. I was walking past their windows and stopped in the my tracks. When I walked in, I was so surprised and so annoyed at myself for not realizing it was here for four years!!! So what's so great about Nowhere Bookshop? First off, for modern independent bookstores, Nowhere Bookshop is huge. It's spacious and well-stocked, with plenty of books you didn't even know you wanted to read. They're also full of interesting non-book merchandise, too - stickers and socks and games and cards and book-related gifts. (The customer service is great, too.) I picked up two books and a sticker within a few minutes of walking around the shop. But then on top of all that? On top of being a great bookstore? It has a coffeeshop and bar in the back. Tons of seats, which means you can buy a book and then enjoy the first ten or twenty or one hundred pages with a coffee or a glass of wine or a beer. Good customer service, consistent with the customer service in the bookshop part of the space. They also have pastries and snacks. I had a glass of wine while enjoying my book, and it was a wonderful experience. All of this adds up to make Nowhere Bookshop a great bookstore. San Antonio is lucky to have it! Coffee shop and bookstore combo is really cute. The coffee is great both the drip and cappuccino. There are a ton of flavors to try as well if you prefer sweeter drinks. The breakfast sandwiches are from Scratch Kitchen locally and were delicious. We split a chocolate croissant that was big and they heated up for us. Prices are fair and they have loyalty points. The baristas were upbeat and friendly. They have a bunch of book recommendations and it's a nice spot to spend your Sunday. read more

We came to Nowhere Bookshop to have our first book club meeting and we had a great time. Nowhere Bookshop is such a cozy and chill place with plenty of books for every taste. There are also book supplies like bookmarks and stickers. There is also a full bar in the back serving coffee and alcohol. The meeting room was available on time and it offers a nice space to be able to meet. There is a tv that we were able to use during our meeting as well. All the employees were nice and super helpful. I love this cute little bookshop! It's owned by author Jenny Lawson. I love all the quirky stickers. There is also a coffeeshop in it and lots of places to hang and sit down. The selection for pastries in the bookshop were ample, i saw a pistachio chocolate croissant, cookies, muffins. I only ordered an arnold palmer and bottled water. The arnold palmer was good! The staff were friendly, and I saw a lot of notes regarding book reviews from staff which I loved. Prices are at par with regular bookshops such as B&N. Absolutely loved it... it's a hidden gem. I frequent bookstores in the local area and didn't realize that I passed by this place so many times and never noticed it. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing, there's a coffee bar in the back, a nice spot against the wall for hanging out and the best part to me are the bay windows on the children side where you can sit and read and watch the world go by. Selection: The selection of books is small but it varies GREATLY. Hands down you'll be able to find something you enjoy. Value: it felt like the prices of the books were on par with Barnes and Noble. My favorite bookstore in SA. That said, if food or drink isn't allowed to be brought in a sign on the door would go a long way. Y'all unfortunately don't sell anything gluten free (I've asked) so I had a snack with me when entering. I saw no sign or I would have thrown away. A young guy who worked there stopped me saying I couldn't bring in outside food or drink because and I quote "they could be shut down for health code". Now had he simply said hey store policy is no outside door or drink, I would have apologized and thrown it away or went outside and finished it quickly (which I ended up doing). My issue is with lying. There is no food health code violations for bringing outside food or drink inside a bookstore, even one that sells food. I know this for a fact as my wife runs a kitchen as an executive chef. Again, my issue is with lying to customers. I don't feel that people should ever be lied to. I'm sure this review won't matter but it's the principle of it all. This bookstore stands on a "higher moral ground" so to speak. I expect that from its workers and patrons. The customer service in general is always weird here. There's one older woman who is a peach but the rest look genuinely afraid to be out in the world. They can't form whole sentences and god forbid you ask for a book recommendation. They look at you like you're insane for asking. read more

Nowhere Bookshop is the absolute cutest book store in town! I finally got a chance to explore this book store and I am so glad I did. They are located off of Broadway with limited parking across their store, so I would highly recommend parking by Pinch Boil (there's more parking in that area). The store has a very nice selection of books for all ages. I really like that as you enter they have their own recommendations of books with a small synopsis and review of each one. It was also very interesting to see many first editions that were also signed by authors, which I thought was really cool. Besides books, they have other very unique items that you can't find anywhere else. At the back of the store they have a coffee shop which a couple of tables. Found this wonderful bookstore on Yelp and had bookmarked it! I could not wait to visit! A rainy day is definitely a bookstore kind of day! From the moment we walked in the energy/ambiance is so lively yet still serene! It is a bookstore afterall... throughout the store there are little nooks to read in peace and other nooks with novelty gifts which includes an awesome little sticker corner (to the right when you walk in). They also have staff recommendations throughout the entire bookstore which is very helpful if shopping without anything specific in mind. It was a bit pricey, in my opinion. Last but not least, tucked way in the back is a little coffee shop with limited seating but a good amount! I had just had brunch so I will have to return to try a coffee/drink from their menu. I ended up buying "Atomic Habits" and a Ted Lasso sticker! So happy with my purchase and overall experience! Staff was so nice and helpful! Looking forward to returning, very soon! read more

Cute small yet spacious book shop. I love that there was a big selection of books you wouldn't typically find at the "bigger" places. Lots of queer and culture books...idk if i missed the food book section but would be cool to have books on the foods of different cultures...love the aesthetic and vibes.... Now for the not so great.. Ordered a sugar free latte with oat, it was still too sweet to finish and literally i always finish my coffees. I drink alot of coffee so i was sad that this was just undrinkable after the 3rd sip...not sure if it was truly sugar free or not. Also saw a bug on a pop tart and very discreetly told the barista so nobody could hear and they could take it out...well they said thank you and yeah just left the pop tart and bug have its romance in the pastry box...no big deals on that but just disappointed but the thing that got me was a male booksellar singled out my friend (they're was 3 of us together) and showed her a book...she didn't ask. We all walked past him and he kept saying excuse me so we turned then he made it clear he was just talking to her and said she looks like she might like this book about Clive Barker...now why do that? There was 3 of us...why not speak to all of us in a general way vs 1 person...i have art pieces and books on Clive Barker, I'm a huge Hellraiser fan but yet something about me didn't say what? What was it about my pretty femme friend that said "i must talk to her about this book even tho nothing about her tells me she could be interested in it" and not the trans man or the non binary that was with her..and yeah she bought it and do you know who she bought it for? Me bc i am the Clive Barker fan that could've easily been pin pointed if he again directed himself to all 3 of us and say "hey how are yall, yall seem like you might enjoy this book..." and see which of us does indeed show interest or not at all...but singling out the tiny pretty one, seriously?? Are we still doing that...and look in my trying to say there was ill intent here but please be aware of how you make yourself out to others especially in customer service...regardless of who they are, what they look like, what they're wearing, you should never single out someone in a group nor if it's just 2 ppl...you address everyone. All in all i want to like this place and for the most part i do. I have had this bookstore on my list and was finally in San Antonio to pay a visit. Author Jenny Lawson owns Nowhere Bookshop and it is a delight. It's quirky, cozy, and a joy to walk through. I browsed the shelves and cards, and being so close to Halloween--they had a Haunted Book Fair happening with drink specials. There is a bar in the back where you can grab coffee, tea, or a refreshing alcoholic bev. The author, herself, was there but I just creeped from the Culture section. It's everything you want a bookstore to be. Plenty of space to sit with a book and a drink, and plenty of good people watching. Parking in lots around the building. Loved this place! read more

Spoiler alert: Nowhere will become your new favorite bookshop! When you think of your ideal local bookshop aesthetic, this place has it! Warm environment, reading nooks, fun lighting, vibrant rugs, frame/art wall, and the smell of coffee in the air. You just kind of walk in and instantly feel joy. In the back of the store they serve coffee, tea, lemonade, and even wine and beer (woooooo!) I didn't get to try it last time I was in, but I plan to in the future! Imagine walking around browsing books with coffee or a glass of wine in hand... how ideal is that! There's a lot of personal touches throughout the store with handwritten recs from employees on the shelf edge of the book shelves. They obviously have a great selection of books, but they also have a lot of cute and funny giftable items (cards, socks, oven mitts, mugs, puzzles, etc.) Another thing that differentiates them are their store events. They have events with authors, reading sessions with kiddos, book clubs, and more. In the back of the store, they have a wall with all upcoming events. They're also very active on social media so if you were to take a look at their Instagram, you'd have a good idea of what's going on. I believe you can order books online too for delivery or curbside which is convenient, but you don't want to miss out on the experience of visiting their store. There was an incredible selection of unusual books as well as other items such as humorous socks. I love her writing style, so was thrilled to purchase a signed copy of her newest book and have it stamped at the bookshop.
