There aren't a lot of classes that my daughter is willing to give up her Saturday mornings for but we have zero problems getting her excited about Science Saturdays. Miss Carmen is an engaging instructor that makes science fun. Each Saturday has a different theme. There is a lot of discussion around each theme, experiments, a snack, and typically a take home activity. I am always amazed at what my daughter has learned in the span of 2 hours of Kiddie Science. It's a great program for children that love science, children that have a billion questions about everything, and as a supplement to regular elementary education. Miss Carmen also holds family workshops throughout the year that are always tons of fun for both kids and parents. We enjoy Kiddie Science so much that we had Miss Carmen come and do science experiments at our daughter's 5th birthday. It was a huge hit!

I could not have anticipated all of the ways that DPS would benefit our family's life. The teachers and directors are loving, thoughtful, and transparent. The days are structured for the kids while also allowing for room to let the kids be kids and learn at their own individual pace. I always feel like I have a good understanding of what my kid's day was like, both because of the communication via the app and the conversations I have with her teachers at the end of the day. But most importantly, the teachers go above and beyond to connect with each of the kids, and it's clear that they care about them. The love and support that my child has received makes me feel like DPS is an extension of my parenthood journey. Instead of daycare feeling like a stressful thing that I have to manage, it is a place where my child is learning and growing while surrounded by people who love her. I'll be sad when we graduate from daycare!

The room is bright, beautiful and filled with art created by the children. There are books and toys to stimulate many areas of development, and the children are given lots of freedom to play and explore in their own way. There is a beautiful gym and a side yard where the children get time every day to run around and move their bodies. They also have weekly music and yoga, and a weekly color theme for art projects and homemade playdough. There's a good amount of structure--not too much, not too little. Our daughter is making friends and so are we! We chose PSCCC because it was one of the few preschools where we noticed a lot of diversity--both among the students and teachers. We love the community we have found there!

Just have to share I'm incredibly disappointed in our experience with touring The Sterling School…read more Totally strung us along, encouraged us to sign up for a 1500$ social skills class after claiming my son had some kind of disastrous visit ( he had a wonderful time touring Gateway, so, all they told us was he wanted to play one game a certain way) which we happily did, and in the end they STILL denied my son without even waiting for his new neuropsych, which they demanded, or considering he was taking this expensive class, at their behest. Way to force a family to drop nearly 8k just to say 'Sorry, actually, we still don't care, we're not even going to look at it.' The end of the tour was also so unprofessional. They just dumped us on one of their poor teachers, never mentioned my son and I would be separated, and we had to ask this poor person to see us out. No one said the tour was over, goodbye, or you'll hear from us. My son left crying asking what he did wrong. We gave them the benefit of the doubt as we are new to this process but I can't let another family be blindsided. Pushing us to sign up for the class AND a get a new neuropsych then dumping him anyway before he did either was scummy. Ridiculous.

My daughter just finished Sterling and I'm so grateful to Ruth Arberman for creating such a…read morewonderful environment for her. Sterling is a very special place. It's a school where students learn from teachers who "really understand their brains," as my daughter once said. Ruth, a public school teacher originally, started this school for her own dyslexic son when she saw the school system was failing him. She assembled a team of specialists in Orton Gillingham and Speech and academics and created an integrated curriculum for kids who learn differently. The proof is in the proverbial pudding--when my daughter started she was in 2nd grade and wasn't even reading at a kindergarten level (despite multiple interventions from learning specialists at a well-rated public school). Now, 3+ years, later she can read on par with some of her peers. This is a miracle and it will help her for the rest of her life. I can't thank the people at Sterling enough. Mark Kanter just succeeded Ruth as head of school and he's equally wonderful. Highly knowledgeable, warm, and committed to understanding the needs of each student and their family. Highly recommend.
