You will stay here for the location. The rooms are smaller than the web site will indicate. Hopefully by some point in the future the construction will abate to such a point they're not doing it on a Saturday. The breakfast buffet is ok. The bathroom is a nightmare. My preference is for a tub but the shower was fine. Nice, in fact. The door opens directly onto the toilet. If you're using it and someone comes in, the door will swing into your leg. The seat will not stay up so if you urinate standing up it'll be a trick. Overall, it's ok at best. I dunno if it's worth $200 a night, but that's downtown Montreal. read more

We stayed at the Novotel for 6 nights during our leisure getaway in Montréal. Everything went very smoothly, from the quick and easy check-in, to finding the parking garage and parking our car, to finding our room on the 8th floor. Things aren't always that easy during Covid, so I thought it was worth pointing out. Our room was absolutely delightful. It was bright, airy, contemporarily furnished and spotlessly clean. The bed was so comfortable and there was so much light from the big windows. The hotel is so conveniently located just steps away from Rue St. Catherine and so many restaurants and shops. If you like to walk, it's honestly close enough to walk almost everywhere. We only took our car out one day because we were going more than 10km away from the hotel. We had no actual complaints about our stay, but I have a couple of very small suggestions. Although we really appreciated the lovely soap, body wash and shampoo, we would have liked some conditioner in the shower. Because we were staying during a pandemic, there was no housekeeping service which we completely understand. However, it would be nice not to have to ask for things like towels and toilet paper. Perhaps with guests staying 3 or more nights, those things could be automatically delivered to the rooms. Excellent stay at Novotel Centre! It's very clean and centrally located. The restaurant is nice and the food is good-the breakfast buffet is very good-meat, fruit, bread, croissants, cheese and more. The rooms are spacious and the employees are very friendly. My only complaints: Housekeeping came in though there was a sign on the door not to. The shampoo and shower gel are nice but tough to use the dispenser and there's no conditioner! I brought my own but for those who rely on hotels-warning. For a weekend trip in August, my BF and I decided to go to Montreal. We had looked at various accomodations but it seems that anything affordable was an Airbnb the size of a closet. That's when we decided to check Chase Ultimate Rewards and ended up using our points for a hotel. It wasn't until I checked in (on Yelp) that I realized it was the same Novotel I had stayed at five years earlier with my friends. I had given it four stars back then, and I'm happy to report it is still a four-star experience. Here are some of the pros and cons: Pros: 1. Location - 2 minute walk from St. Catherine St, where all of the bars, restaurants, and shopping are 2. You can exchange money at the front desk 3. Lots of shelving in the bathroom, so plenty of room for your toiletries 4. Excellent lighting in the bathroom for applying makeup 5. You need a keycard for the elevators after 6 pm, so it's nice to have a little bit of a sense of security 6. The wi-fi situation has approved. You can now also register up to 6 devices per room 6. Blankets are super comfy 7. Bathroom is pretty spacious Cons 1. There's no mini fridge in the room but there is a minibar (you need to pay for this). However, you can call the front desk and have them empty it out so that you can use the minibar. It's also pretty dirty because I guess other guests had the same idea but left a mess 2. While it's close to St. Catherine, it's far from other tourist spots. Everything else is a 20-30 minute walk 3. Parking is 30 CAD/night with no in/out privileges. We found a parking deck 3 blocks away where you can buy a 60 CAD 3-day package with in/out privileges. It's called Autoparc Stanley 4. No hair conditioner - just shampoo, shower gel, and bar soap 5. Pillows aren't that comfy. It left my neck and back hurting each morning I don't know if I'd come back to Montreal anytime soon, but I guess it looks like I have a go-to hotel! read more

I kept the curtains drawn because my view was of dumpsters and a filthy alley. 2. Random construction-like sounds. Around 7AM, rather loud and disruptive banging and thumping would commense. I'm not sure why or where as I didn't notice any obvious construction. The room was comfortable. I found the toiletries they provided to be top notch too. I ordered room service on two occasions and was pleased with the service and the food. The service in particular was stellar. Two big thumbs up to Kaela. She was extremely friendly and helpful. The staff was very friendly. A couple of minor annoyances were the fact that there is a bar across the street, so if you're staying here for the weekend, expect some noise. Also, I could smell cigarettes in the bathroom. The cleaning service wasn't available during our stay either, but I do understand this is one of the necessary COVID measures. This hotel would not be my first choice if I were in La Ville for holidays. I was awoken at 7:12 am on a Sunday by a woman's orgasm scream. Jesus, no. I could also hear the people on the other wall moving things around in their closet. I must either have excellent hearing or these walls are very thin. Pro: the pillows were nice and the comforter lived up to its name. Con: there was one check-in person, an older lady with glasses (not the one with the curly hair, the one with the straight hair) who was kind of huffy because I don't speak French well. Sorry, I am quadrilingual so everything gets mixed up. I am mostly bad at all the languages when I am jet-lagged. Pro: the housekeeping is very discreet. I didn't hear folks yelling "HOUSEKEEPIN'" as I did in the last hotel I stayed at at all hours of the morning. Con: Their soap is supposedly environmental but it made my hands all scratchy and dry like I had finished currying wool. No conditioner. Shower stall doesn't have any curtain so lots of water splashes out on the ground if you like to sport and tumble about like a baby whale in the shower. Pro: One young guy who is super-Quebecois and very short and cute was very helpful and I think he only worked on weekends, but he made me feel very welcome. Con: No coffee maker (you get two sachets of ground instant coffee). Instead you get a hot boiling kettle. No refrigerator. I had to put my stuff in the ice bucket which didn't even have a bag in it. Worse than Comfort Inn, that part. Con: Clientele look kind of stuffy and entitled. I saw an old couple coming down to the lobby demanding their room be cleaned first so they could have it clean when they come back from sauntering. Seriously. Lobby is kind of unfriendly. The hallways look like a futuristic movie. My hotel room looked over a junkyardish construction site but I never heard construction because I was out doing business. The hotel is closer to amenities and stores though, so I wouldn't give it a bad rating but I would not rave about it either. read more

Reasonably priced hotel within walking distance of retail department stores and restaurants, contrary to Rick S.'s review. The room I stayed in was spacious and could easily accommodate 4 people without the use of a rollaway bed, due to the pull-out microfiber couch. Also included in the room: programmable safe, a stocked mini bar/fridge (pay for what you consume), iron, comfy bed and a good sized desk for your laptop. The flat screen TV was only 24" screen or so and that could have been better but I didn't really watch that much TV anyway. The exercise room is on the 2nd floor; be sure to take the left elevator and choose the SS floor. Service, room and location are above average. In and out parking in their garage will cost you $20 per day so be ready for that. Reasonably priced at about $150 per night. Sufficient for my 4 night trip. read more

There are weird welcome "pods" in the lobby instead of a front desk. I found that these work well for the French Canadians who weren't any more polite about standing in line and waiting their turn than the French French, but it was a little confusing trying to figure out where to check in, who could help with the WIFI, etc. My room had wrinkled, cheap, thin, worn indoor/outdoor carpeting and looked like the whole thing, including the bathroom, was installed, prefab, from IKEA. It did, though, offer a stunning view of dumpsters in the alley. For no readily obvious reason, their room service is not available until 11 a.m., so if you wanted, say, breakfast, at, say, breakfast time, you are, how we say, "Merde outta luck." The free WIFI for guests was a royal pain in the ass and only seemed to work in the lobby, and then only after many attempts to go through their frustrating login procedure. What are they afraid of, that roving bands of homeless guys with laptops will set up camp in their lobby if they just let you login without having to enter some silly-ass code? A major negative for the business traveler. But hey, the price was right and it was close to a lot of good stuff downtown. There's a great little pub right across the street, and some nice jiggly Canadian backsides saunter by on the sidewalk in this very pedestrian city (meant as a descriptor, not a detraction) so being in the thick of the downtown action is definitely a plus. My fiancé and I had a great stay at Novotel. We were going to a concert at the Bell Center, which was about a block from the hotel -- amazing location! We snagged a room with a king bed and sofa for only $89 plus tax. We parked the car in the lot below for $28 for the whole stay. The lobby was clean and modern, and the staff was friendly and efficient. Our room had a view of Rue De La Montagne -- which had quite a bit of construction going on, but no one was working, so it didn't bother us. The liquor store is only 2 blocks away if you don't want to spend tons at the bars. Great shopping right around the corner! I couldn't get over how close we were to the Bell Center! The room was clean and modern, with "interesting" design character. Nonetheless, this was a comfortable and clean room. I had a drink from the minifridge which was only $2.50 (not bad). But that was a preemptive pop because there's a vending machine next to the ice machine that sells them for $1.25. Lesson learned. Basic wifi is available in the rooms for free, but high-speed wifi costs an extra $9.95. We were fine with basic to look up directions, Yelp, and browse Facebook. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant L'O, which was very decent. The complimentary bread sticks were room-temp-to-cold, but came with a small pot of green olive tapenade and a small pot of butter. I ordered the spice-crusted salmon for $20, which came perfectly cooked (crisp outside, moist but firm inside) over a bed of perfectly roasted vegetables and two generous swipes of orange and yellow pepper coulis. Yum! My fiancé ordered the King Burger for $15 which was well cooked and came with a lightly dressed salad and the most perfect French fries. The drinks were a little pricey (a bottle of Heineken for $7) but we got a lovely cup of coffee (with a surprise wedge of chocolate!) for $3.50. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a well-priced hotel in a great location. read more

Beware of the mini bars in your room. If you move an item and trigger a sensor, you will "automatically be billed." I was awakened very early by a loud thumping coming from some place. Three hours later and its still going. It also sounds like we are next to a subway. It is very noisy somewhere outside our room. It was very clean. I was happy with the interior design of our Standard King room. Staff will wake you up at 10am in order to "restock the minbar" The lobby was very nice. Parking is a bit pricey. This is probably not the best place to stay if you are here for the gay nightlife. It is a good distance from all of that. read more

The newly remodeled Novotel Hotel is right in the heart of the downtown action less than a block away from Montreal's epicenter of Ste. Catherine and Crescent street restaurants, bars, night clubs and some of the more fashionable shopping stores with easy access to the underground shopping malls. For the location, the rate was quite reasonable $144/night US incl. taxes; parking is $23/night US at the hotel but I chose to park 2 blocks away for a total of $21 US for three days try that in Boston or NY or anywhere else for that matter! The Novotel is located between the Peel Greenline Metro Stop and the Lucien-L'Allier Orange line making travel throughout the city very easy. Check-in was easy and efficient with exceptionally cordial and helpful people on the front desk. The room was fairly large very modern and clean and house keeping was in every day to tidy up. The only inconvenience was the absence of dresser drawers in the room those were located in the closet of all places and quite small but didn't pose a real problem. Also, I missed having a small refrigerator but that was easily circumvented. This was a very good stay in a newly renovated hotel with an excellent staff situated in the heart of Montreal's prime downtown real estate, what could be better! read more

Just got back from a 2 night stay at the Novotel Centre Montreal. The hotel is located just south of Rue St. Catherine, which has tons of shops and restaurants. Just a short walk to the subway as well, if you're looking to explore Montreal further. My room was very spacious, with a king bed and a sofa will a roll-out mattress underneath. It could have easily accommodated 4 people. The shower temp and water pressure was GREAT! The internet in the rooms is wired and not free, but they do offer free wifi in the lobby, as well as a mac computer that you can use to print restaurant maps or your boarding pass. The staff was very courteous and friendly, and even asked me if there was anything I felt they could do better. Now that's dedication to hospitality! read more

Absolutely atrocious. My friend and I visited Montreal for a night to celebrate her roommate's birthday. Their hotel lacked ample parking so we walked a couple blocks over to Vincipark. We paid to park for the night, the attendant notified us that it was actually prorated since we arrived after 5:00 PM. We put our ticket in the window and figured we were set for the night. Around 10 AM, we come back to my car and see a different attendant standing across the lot reminding us not to forget about paying him, but we told him we had already paid the night before and figured that was that. We proceeded to pack up and organize the car for about a half an hour, while the whole time this man literally STARED at us as though he was waiting for something. As we were getting ready to leave, he came over to us to notify us that "overnight parking" ended at 3:59 AM (?!!) BUT if we had left when we first arrived to the lot that morning, he supposedly wouldn't have charged us for the extra day. This sad, sad man continued to hassle us for a good twenty minutes after using ethnic slurs and a bowl full of sarcasm. We finally gave in and paid for two full days of parking although we had been there a little over 12 hours. Had we been in a different part of Canada, I literally would have called the cops for the amount of disrespect this man showed towards us. He could have handled things very differently. read more

I really like this hotel. The location can't be beat and the service is excellent. The rooms are clean and well-appointed. Nothing spectacular, but you're in Montreal -- how much time are you spending in the room? Ha! But really, I mixed it up on my trip about a year ago and stayed at the Sheraton. Spent four nights here. There is nothing glaringly wrong about this hotel. It's location is splendid just a block or two away from crescent street. Never had a problem with the staff. It just looks so much better and interesting on their website. The rooms were pretty bland. My bed wasn't very comfortable. The TV remote was a pain in the butt. The view from my room was nothing spectacular at all. It was just so boring and plain. The restaurant was nothing great either. So over priced and nothing to get excited about. And with so many options literally a block away why, would any one ever go there? I guess the price point is slightly less than other hotels nearby. But not sure if I would stay here again. Ew. I did not experience the check-in pods because they have apparently changed it back to a desk, but a really weird desk. My room was really dingy and had a very, well, "lived in" feel. There was some sort of dry dirt on the bathroom floor when I arrived. I was there for one night and did not test the shower (I didn't want to know...) All the furniture looked like it was old and had been painted, then chipped away at. Run down as Henry V. put it is very accurate. If you touch anything from the mini bar, which had a scant selection of items, they will charge you instantly--according to the check in person. They REALLY want to charge you with extras. When I asked the front desk where a convenience store was the girl asked, "is there anything we can provide?" Yes, you can tell me where the nearest store is, duh. This hotel is not up to Novotel standards. The checkin pods create confusion and seem to take longer and when I checked in and tried to check out there was only one person working the pod. I could not wait to check out so I used the express checkout. My version is to just leave and let them sort it out. I'm sure the fiji water will end up on my bill. The parking is 20 per day and the in and out coupon did not work for me initially. The room was run down. The towels were so old you could see through them. The shower did not work well, no soap dish near the sink and the TV was small and had bad audio. I could barely here it over the people in the next room. The Internet was 10 per day, and the only option for bottled water was the $5.50 Fiji water. I hate hotels that charge for Internet especially when it's slow. I got better speeds out of my Rogers wifi hotspot and I just used that after paying for he first day. This is a big issue for a business traveler. The room service can be delivered to your room but not dominos. I had to get downstairs to meet the pizza delivery, heck i should have just gone out to eat. The location is by far the best part of this hotel, but next time im staying at the Sofitel. Free high speed Internet is a must. read more

Pros: location! Close to the metro easy to get around downtown and fine your way to the old city. Friendly receptionists, answered all of our questions (in clear English, although I would have liked to practice my French). On site parking. Computers with printers in lobby to print directions, etc. Cons: cleaning staff using the elevators in the morning, and by that I mean they won't let you into the elevator, and the stairs are locked (hopefully they aren't during an emergency). Paying $9.95 for wifi is ridiculous, it's free in the lobby and a decent speed, but to stream video or work at a more efficient pace the paid high speed is needed. The hyper sensitive mini bar just freaks me out. Totally unnecessary. I would have rather the fridge be empty so I could chill my water bottle. Our 'view' was the awning of the entrance where a slice of pizza was left on top to rot. Ew. read more

At first I was not sure about staying at the Novotel, simply because I have never had the opportunity. but I chose this hotel because of it's proximity to my office during my stay's here in Montreal. I have to say, if someone has an issue with the hotel being "dated", or not pleased with something that occurred during a renovation, then those people are looking for something to complain about. I could not have been more pleased with my stay. I arrived late simply because my habit is always the last flight into my work geo. And the gentleman at the front desk was the personification of a professional welcoming you to a nice place to call a temporary home. I do not recall his name, but my stay was from 11/29 through 12/2; and I arrived at approximately midnight. Wonderful disposition and super helpful. Truly made me feel welcome and at home. The room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. I cannot imagine why anyone would have an issue with this hotel. This hotel is perhaps the most well placed hotel that I have ever stayed at anywhere. All you need to do to get to anything and everything that you could want to do and see downtown, is walk out the front door, take a left; go to the end of the block and then go left or right. It's all right there, a 2 minute walk away. My office was out the door, to the right, and also a two minute walk away. So I preferred the left turn from the front door. :-) I enjoyed my stay here so much, that I will attempt to use it as my home in Montreal whenever rooms are available, and that aligns with what my corporate travel overlords will bless at any given time. Stay here. Don't give it a second thought. Okay... one last thing... I'm a fitness but. My liquid intake consists of water, good coffee. And when time allows, fine bourbon and/or scotch. So, not having a grocery store nearby where I could buy a gallon sized bottle of water, I drank water from the bathroom sink. I have to say, it tastes so clean, and crisp; almost as if it was from a filtered water system. I know that's such a minor point. But to me, if I can be comfortable drinking the water from the bathroom faucet, it speaks well of the establishment. read more

Everytime I have to stay in Montreal for a business trip, I stay there. This hotel is very well located near loads of restaurants, shops and the Bell center. The hotel itself looks quite good and it's also very clean. Till now all the rooms I've tried where fine. Some of the rooms had been renovated and others would need to be but they were very clean so I didn't care. For me as long as the bed is comfy and the bathroom clean, I won't care if the curtains and the furnitures are old fashioned. In the lobby there are 2 computers which can be used to surf on the internet and it's free of charge. The wifi is also free in the lobby area only. If you want to use the wifi in your room, you will have to pay an extra either for an hour or for 24 hours. Most rooms have an ethernet connection and the hotel provides cables as well. Normaly there is always one in the room you book. There is also an ATM machine in the lobby for those in need of fresh money. The hotel has a restaurant called L'O and it's reasonnably good. In the morning they offer a buffet style breakfast or the traditional a la carte breakfast. Most of the time the breakfast are not included in the price of the room so be warned that it's not cheap. It will cost around 16.50$ for the buffet and this is NOT including the taxes (15%). You can easily get there with the public transport like the subway network (Lucien L'Allier station) or via various bus lines in the area. read more

They'd made an effort to make the hotel modern and fun. And best of all, the location was perfect. After doing some research online, I chose this hotel for a recent trip to Quebec. After being on the road for seven hours from Massachusetts, we were relieved to arrive and find it easily. After booking the hotel over the phone, I called the day of departure to confirm the reservation and had a printed copy of my confirmation email. I walked into the hotel to check in, and was told that they had given my reservation away. No other rooms were available. There was no apology, no explanation and no attempt to remedy. Not knowing anyone in the area and being completely exhausted, we said "That's fine, where do you send your overflow?" Anyone who has traveled has experienced an oversold hotel problem. Usually a decent hotel has a list of comparably priced hotels at the ready. Once again, the clerk looked at me and said that it wasn't her problem. So we were left to drive around Montreal hitting up hotels until we found an available hotel that was in our price range. A recommendation or two would have made all the difference at this point. I'm sure that the hotel is fine. But if you're looking for quality customer service, a hotel that honors your reservation, an effort to rectify a problem when something goes wrong, or even a front desk staff that shows a modicum of concern or soul - don't stay here. read more

Nothing is horrible here, it's just not a great experience. It did the job, but I don't know if I'd stay here again. Our shower was impossible to turn off and the head had a weird leak that caused it to shoot out the top of the shower all over the floor. Be careful with the minibars - they charge you for everything you consume. And yes, the tv remote was a pain in the ass to use. I kept having to clap it against my hand to get it to work. read more

Staid here for 4 nights and found it to be clean, accommodating and well designed. Friendly staff, decent restaurant, good bar and very welcoming in general. Rooms are not exceptional but they're just fine in every way. -1 star for wanting to charge me $9.95 per day for wifi. That's just ridiculous. Otherwise a very nice, clean, friendly and well located hotel. Easy to get to food, shopping and the Bell center is right there too. Would stay again. read more

The lobby and outside seating area are nice. Staff was excellent. Location was perfect. Rooms are standard for most hotels but we're very clean. Only hitch was the carpet in our room looked like it was installed incorrectly. I would recommend this place to friends and family. read more

Mehhhh.... It was ok. I got what I expected exactly like the picture. 150 a night including tax is not bad for a supposed 4 star hotel... Oh well it is better than the Holiday Inn. who can complain. I am not sure if they had a gym or pool but oh well one block from st catherines the main shopping place. As well as all the best spas and bars and close by old downtown. The cleaning ladies like to go through your stuff be careful and make sure to watch them when they clean. They might steel but did not for me just opened up and were noisy. A decent experience a bar and restaurant and canopy on the outside filled with bugs and spiders if you ever want to look up top. I ran for the hills. But every 25 dollars you spend with them you get a free drink. read more

Novotel illegally charged for a one-night stay; I cancelled a reservation within their policy's timeframe. The room was booked via hotels.com, which worked to partly resolve the issue. The amount charged in CAD was refunded two weeks after the charge, but a change in the exchange rate to USD means I was not made whole. In addition, the refund was issued in two installments because Novotel failed to refund the correct amount the first time. I can state that, at least in this instance, Novotel did not adhere to the written contract in which it entered. The multiple calls it took to resolve this issue also demonstrates incompetence. read more
