Checked in very late in the day after a 12 hour flight to spend the day in Montreal. Daniel was excellent at the front desk and gave me all the details of this wonderful hotel. Our room was great! The layout was like a small chic downtown apartment. I loved all of the decor. The shower is amazing. I will say it again... the shower is the best thing ever. We enjoyed the room so much that we tried to change our flight to sleep in later. Sadly we could not. I want to visit Montreal again and have time to tour the whole city and I would definitely stay here again. read more

We are Marriott platinum members and almost always look for a Marriott property when we're traveling. Since it was our first time to Montreal, we didn't really know what area would be best for us so our only requirement was that it be near the metro line. The Marriott Chateau Champlain is located in the Ville-Marie district near downtown and is literal steps away from the Bonaventure station located on the Orange metro line, which is by far the line we rode the most. It was also very convenient to the Cathedral and an easy 10 minute waslk to Eaton Centre and the Underground City. The area is very much a business district and while there are some good cafes and restaurants nearby, we most often found ourselves traveling to Sherbrooke, Mont-Royal, and Laurier stations to go shopping in Mile End or to eat or drink. The room was spacious and clean, and the staff kept the water, coffee, and tea replenished each day. The elevators were annoyingly slow at times (waiting 5-7 minutes to go down to the lobby), but other than that, this is a really nice Marriott property where we'd definitely stay again during our next visit. read more

Stayed here recently for 2 nights because it was one of the cheaper options in the area. Didn't pay much for the stay so wasn't expecting much. The hotel was very nice and a room on the 17th floor had a great view of the city. Didn't get to try anything they had on site because we were out all day and got back too late at night. The gym is open 24hrs is what we were told but didn't try it out. My biggest issue with the hotel is the parking. They have their own underground parking lot which is nice but it costs $32 to park there. I thought it was a daily fee that's charged as part of the stay with in and out option but you have to pull a ticket and pay every time. If you're not parking there then would recommend it. Water pressure in the shower was also great. No complimentary breakfast but tea, coffee, and water are in the room. Would recommend if you don't plan on parking there. read more

Overview: Recently remodeled Marriott. Stayed here a few years ago and refresh is thorough. Nice rooms, decent service, one of the worst M Lounges around on the weekends. Check in: efficient check in on a recent Friday afternoon; asked for a room upgrade based on my status and Nathaniel responded that my room was already upgraded to the 32nd floor. Nathaniel was very pleasant. Room (3216): King bed, desk, settee near window, Samsung TV, mini-refrigerator, Nespresso coffee maker, all the normal items. Bed: firm mattress. Average linens. Frustrating under bed lighting system and randomly came on in the middle of the night. Cleanliness of room: above average. Good housekeeping. Noise/sleep quality: Little noise between rooms during our stay, some door slamming from hallway noticed. Some street noise came into the room even though we were not he 32nd floor. Bathroom: shower only, good pressure. Service: in general employees were adequate. Housekeeper on our floor was very sweet. Restaurant: On-site restaurant called "Lloyd"- see our separate review of Lloyd (cold eggs Benedict, staff full of excuses and no service) Parking: $27/day in the garage attached to the hotel. No in/out at the garage. Valet service available but valet costs $42/day. Gym: Nice gym Club: If you have status, there's an M Lounge. The M Lounge is horrible on the weekends. On both Saturday and Sunday of our stay the M Lounge was not serviced and food was empty, coffee makers not working, etc. I complained about the lack of food on Saturday with front desk staff. Complaint was ignored and Sunday was even worse. The M Lounge was so bad Sunday, we ate at the restaurant. Also, M Lounge offered yogurt that expired the day of visit. On the Monday of our stay, the M Lounge was fully stocked and well run. Management response re M Lounge: I complained about having to buy breakfast at Lloyd, and hotel management refunded our charge at the restaurant. Management's response neutralized the overall poor experience. Internet: Upgraded to high speed access. Nperf test showed 44 Mb down/40 Mb up. Good speed for remote work. Misc: (1) This is a downtown hotel and there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. (2) About 10 minute walk to the old city or Chinatown. (3) If you have status and get a $10 US credit for food or drink, this hotel provides its own unique exchange rate from US to Canadian dollars. During our visit the real exchange rate was about $1 US to $1.31 Canadian. But our $10 US credit voucher only gave us $12 at Lloyd. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! IT IS A RIP-OFF AND A CLOWN SHOW! I stayed here with my gf for 4 days and it was a nightmare. If you want to check it out, because of the architecture, go grab a drink at the restaurant, but avoid the California gas station wine (Meiomi that they try to pass off as something more). The thermostat in the rooms don't really work, so we roasted. My gf was getting a scratchy throat so we asked for some more mint tea and honey. They sent up a guy with a literal handful of black tea in one hand and a handful of sweeteners in the other that he proceeded to dump into my hands. Then I asked for honey, miel (I am bilingual), and half the conversation was in french, he said he would come back with some, it was the tiniest amount. The mini-fridge is on a weird tippy piece of scrap wood on wheels. They re-did the bathroom and sort-of dressing hall area, but the bathroom door is one of those sliding barn door things, so privacy is not really a thing, because there is a two inch gap around the edges. When we first arrived, I had to chase the bell-hop around to find him when he disappeared after we checked in. Marriott has moved into a non-customer friendly style of card transactions, taking full payment with deposit on hold at check in AND THEN RUNNING THE FULL TRANSACTION AS A SEPARATE TRANSACTION UPON CHECK-OUT, MORE THAN DOUBLING WHAT THE CUSTOMER HAS TO HOLD ON THEIR CARD!!! AT ONE POINT FOR A 4 DAY STAY MARRIOTT HAD MORE THAN $4500 ON MY CARD!!! I CALLED VISA AND THEY CONFIRMED. Marriott does this to ensure at no point will it ever risk not being paid, BUT THIS IS NOT STANDARD PRACTICE! Standard practice is to take a deposit at the beginning and that's it and please do not try to tell me different, I am 50 and have travelled the world and also have seen how practices have evolved. It should be a deposit and then payment and part of doing business/running a business is sometimes a card may be declined and then you have to take the person to court or use another payment method debit/whatever. THIS WAS THE WORST PLACE I HAVE STAYED IN THE WORLD. I LOVE MONTREAL, BUT THIS HOTEL SUCKS. read more

Newly renovated Montréal Marriott Château Champlain Visiting Montreal, Canada in December is definitely a different sight of scene. It's much less crowded. The snow mixed-in muddy roads didn't stop us from walking all over places. Enjoyed our stay at Montréal Marriott Château Champlain with complimentary upgrade. This was my second time staying here and I absolutely love it. I got a room with a view of the city up on the 18th floor. It was beautiful. The room was clean and had all the amenities you need. I particularly liked the shower and all the different water outlets and the pressure. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfast buffet is really nice and there are lots of great options! You can even request them to make you an omelet. The gym is clean and has several options of machines to use. It will s in a great location to walk to several places! We walked to Old Town Montreal, Mont Royal and everything in between! There's so much to do within a walking distance (3 miles radius). The city felt safe to walk during the day and late at night. The only con of my visit was the alarm that went off at 7am. It was my one day to sleep in after a long trip and the alarm was verrry loud and scared the hell out of me! Lovely hotel and in a convenient location close to the Centre Bell. The metro is literally below the hotel, as is the famous underground walkways. Less than 2 blocks away is the famous Dunn's restaurant, and I really loved the food there. We had the breakfast buffet as part of our package, cold food only. I thought it would be lousy but found out it was not just Danish, but breads, meats, cheese, and even the oatmeal. Plenty of juice to choose from, and even their famous Montreal bagel. The only downside is the place is a bit old and dated. If you're looking for a fresh looking hotel, this isn't it, but the fact its close to the metro, the shops, restaurants and the Centre Bell? Hors d'oeuvres from 5:30-7:30, Sunday-Thursday. Dessert 7:30-10:00. Pretty tough to beat the location. I'm a die-hard Marriott hotel frequent guest. I love that I can use the points I earned at hotels in Asheville and Columbia and Chicago for a "free" hotel for a weekend in Montreal. That's just awesome. This was a major redemption. 50,000 points bought me a concierge-level room on the 35th floor. A two-room suite with a great view of the river, which was great because that's where the fireworks were. Yep, I was here for Canada Day. Comfortable bed and a bathroom with all the usual features of Marriott properties. Plus a bidet. Bellman in the lobby is happy to hold your bags if you check out and still have time before leaving Montreal. There is also an elevator to the Bonaventure Métro station (though it was out of service during my stay). As with all full-service Marriotts, this one has a concierge lounge and free wifi for Gold and Platinum level Marriott Rewards members. read more

We stayed here on a recommendation from a friend. First off, the location is perfect! Right in the heart of downtown Montreal you can easily walk to a ton of amazing restaurants, pubs, and attractions. It should also be noted that there is a Metro station entrance in the hotel lobby behind the concierge desk, so convenient! The Via Rail station is only 2 blocks away, which is a huge bonus as we're travelling by train to Quebec City tomorrow. We got a room with a city view, wow so beautiful! We were delighted to be able hear the church bells from St George's church as well. The hotel is older but very charming. The important factors for us are a comfy bed and a hot shower with decent water pressure, they get high marks for both. I like the high quality toiletries they offer as well. We went down and had a peek at the pool and gym and we were quite impressed with the facilities. We'll try it out later today. I liked the fact that there's a Starbucks in the lobby along with a gift shop few high end stores. It's a bit on the pricey side, but definitely worth it. read more

Husband and I were booked here for a conference as an overflow group from the Sheraton two blocks away. We had never been to Canada, let alone Quebec and loved this hotel location. The metro stop connected to the hotel is wonderful. I can see that being a major plus when it is winter. The hotel is very close to the bus stop that takes you to/ from the airport. All the staff were wonderful. And we had to store 3 suitcases and two "personal items" before our flight and after check out and it was only $4 Canadian which was so reasonable. Wifi was a bit spotty for video chatting with our babies back home but also was included so it was fine. I would stay every time I go to Montreal which may be often. read more

I went to the little pub in the Marriott hotel. Also, it's very sad to see such a beautiful and historic hotel in such bad shape ! The crystals were crooked on the chandeliers and outdated carpets. I know it gives it the vintage feel but they could've done more to upkeep the place. I went to a networking event. The hotel chartered as well it was nice I got free tea and coffee. As well as water which was very nice of the hotel. Later we went into the pub for drinks and food. It was charming ! However you need a room key to enter into a bathroom outside the pub which seemed lousy. But they did carry local Quebec gin which I could appreciate. And the servers were great but we were the only ones in there as well. I asked to see the food menu and explained I'm a vegan which the wait staff didn't seem to understand at all. They had thought I meant I ate fish or cheese. Lol. They brought me out my app with bacon on it ! What a fail I had to send it back and it came. It was a beet salad and radishes. But honestly I wished that I had the fries. The place isn't a great Vegan option but it's a charming pub and decor. It's worth checking out ! read more

This hotel is in downtown which makes it convenient to go anywhere. There is a train station around the corner, and for about $10 / day unlimited ticket, you can explore pretty much all of Montreal. The hotel has a nice indoor pool and an awesome gym where you can burn calories before and after you eat at surrounding cafes and restaurants. Spent 4 nights here this past week and was very pleased with the place. In short: - nice clean rooms - some potentially wonderful views (I was upgraded to a suite on the 35th floor facing south) - heating was great, as in, lots of it and not loud (you have no idea how important this can be) - gym was pretty solid with multiple cardio options, free weights and several other machines - bar downstairs offered friendly service, decent food, and quite a few local beer offerings - convenient access to the metro directly underneath the hotel Only minor gripe was the limited offerings of the executive lounge. The place is very small, bfast and evening hors d'oeuvres left quite a bit to be desired. Alcohol is not complimentary unlike true international Marriott hotels. Only real plus is the water and soft drink options in the cooler. read more

We are long time Marriott Elites so when we went to Montreal for a long weekend, we searched for Marriott in downtown that were family friendly. This was the winner since they also have a good pool. Checking in was smooth and easy and the staff was extremely pleasant and accommodating. The location was perfect... steps away from the Bell Centre, St. Catherine's, and pretty much everything you'd want is right there. Daily parking was $25 per day. The pool and fitness centerwas of reasonable size. The rooms very comfortable and roomy. Our room overlooked the city, which was beautiful. There is a Starbucks, a bar, a grab and go breakfast place, and a convention center located in the facility. A metro center is also right in the hotel which made it easy to get anywhere. I'm giving this "home away from home" 5 Stars. The location is amazing, and the people are fantastic. The hotel reminds me a bit of a Grande Dame - she is a classy lady of a certain age. The doorman remembered me after not too long, and the bar staff are amazing - so friendly. More vegetarian options on the menu would be welcome, I confess. Other than that, it's all been said - if you like the ambiance of a classic, older hotel, this ones for you. If you like attentive and not intrusive staff, and a great location, this is your choice. If you have serious issues with a few chandelier crystals being out of place, there are other hotels. I don't think they will have a doorman who lets you borrow an umbrella to walk to work when it's raining, though. read more

I'm a Marriott Rewards Elite Member, so I opted for this hotel on a recent trip to Montreal. The location of the hotel is great. It's a short walk to downtown shopping, the Jazz Fest, and Old Montreal. I even walked back from Mont Royal Parc after my visit there. If you're going to anything at Bell Centre, it's SUPER close. There's a metro station nearby, as well. This hotel has been around a while. I'd love to see some updates to the rooms. It looks like they took out all the minibar fridges, and just left the shelving they were in there. Replace them with a fridge, like most hotels have these days. Or better yet, redo the room and reconfigure the space to be more useful and modern. The bathrooms were also tiny, but functional. It wasn't dirty or anything- just older, and in need of an update. The staff here are wonderful. Everyone was very helpful. Check in was easy and the staff at the desk were friendly and informative. There is a fitness room in the hotel, but this too need an update. I am pretty sure those weights are older than me. The lobby has a Starbucks and a gift shop with plenty of necessities. It's a real Starbucks, and you can use your app here (although they have to type the number in manually). The Concierge Lounge had adequate space, and great views. I'd stay here again. read more

We are having a lovely stay at this Marriott. Came with the family for a conference. The crib requested for the room was not ready at our arrival but was sent up within a few min, as well as the rollaway bed (at no additional cost). There is a mini fridge in the room and amazing views of the city (22 floor). There is a supermarket 2 blocks away (Provigo). Subway station right below the hotel (you take the elevator marked "metro" one floor down). There is a ramp to get to the lobby of the hotel (for stroller). No ramp when taking the elevator to the subway (only stairs after getting off the elevator). Walking distance to downtown, Mont Royal, Old Montreal. We have used the heated and indoor pool almost daily. It opens at 6:30am and closes at 10pm. Every time we ask for something (more coffee or the crib for example) front desk person calls within a few minutes to make sure we received it. read more

Great hotel with an old fashion decor that will make you feel like you went back in time. The rooms are spacious and the decor is a hybrid between modern and old fashion. Not to mention, the great location - short walk to downtown shopping and has its own entrance to the train station. Old Montreal wasn't too far either. The Concierge Lounge has an amazing view of the Square Dorchester and the Queen Mary of the World Cathedral. I just wish that the lounge is open on weekends. read more

We were in room 3116 from 8/1-8/7. The housekeeping is very rude. Every morning at 8:00 am they get to work. They clean the rooms without a door wedge. This means they will go in and out of the door slamming it a hundred times hitting the dead bolt. The door will squeak and slam over and over again. We have our privacy card up each day so we can sleep in. The hotel staff could have some courtesy and be respectful of those around them. I've never heard of a hotel that doesn't wedge the door open while cleaning the rooms. Either they're trying to wake up the patrons on purpose or straight rude. After complaining to the hotel, nothing was done to remedy the situation. read more
