If I could give Dr. McKernan and his nurse less than 1 star I would. If you are looking for a…read morephysician and a staff who care about their patients, Dr. McKernan's office is NOT where you will find it. Without going into all of the details, they are the most uncaring, unprofessional, unsympathetic people I know. They interacted with my mother without any sympathy or empathy to her chronic back pain she's been dealing with since she injured her back as a teenager. His nurse went so far as to calling her names and telling my mother, SHE made the decision my mother didn't need to speak to Dr. McKernan after repeatedly calling his office for him to return her call. Dr. McKernan changed my mother's treatment from the regiment she was on for years with her pain management doctor in Dallas. When it didn't work, he ignored her calls asking to be put back on the treatment she was previously on. After waiting nearly a week, Dr. McKernan finally called, he finally called from a blocked number, not a BS&W number. Due to the number of spam calls we all get, she didn't answer the call and missed speaking with him. His voicemail was neither compassionate or consoling and stated that he would not continue the treatment she had been on for years even though it worked because he dislikes the drug. He continued by telling her the prescription she was on should give her enough time to find another physician. My mother tried to reach Dr. McKernan again for several days. On March 4, 2022, she received a call from his nurse who was abusive, rude, and very unprofessional. I personally tried to reach Dr. McKernan several times without success. After numerous repeated calls, I finally spoke to Dr. McKernan who again was unsympathetic to my mother's pain (a great quality to have in a pain management doctor) and refused to continue the treatment that had been working for years. He told me that she needed to find another physician. I called administration to file a complaint and spoke to a Ms. Deavea McMurry, who, too, was extremely unprofessional and even more uncaring. Stating to me repeatedly "My job is just to take the complaint...". I asked to speak her boss, a Mr. Bill Selby, who's number rolls straight to voicemail. Mr. Selby and I finally spoke regarding the very uncaring, unprofessional and abusive behavior of Dr. McKernan, his nurse, and Ms. McMurry. He asked me on 3/8/2022 to give him a few days to look into this matter and he would get back in touch with me. As seems to be the norm for BS&W, he never called back! I reached out to him over a week later, again having to leave a voicemail. When he returned my call, he state the formal apology I sought from Dr. McKernan and his nurse was "not going to happen" because "we just don't do that.". I was shocked! A doctor, a nurse and an administrator in the COMPLAINT department treats a patient with total lack of care, respect or humility, much less any empathy for the patient's pain and medical condition and the hospital's stance is "we don't apologize"!! Sidenote: My mother's previous pain management doctor, her pharmacist and another local medical advisor all disagree with how Dr. McKernan handled my mother's treatment. Her previous doctor going as far as saying "[Dr. McKernan] has eased all of the work we accomplished over years.". Yet, Dr. McKernan, his nurse who called an 81 year, 4'11", 110lbs woman names and refuse to apologize for their appalling behavior.

Soooo....Scott & White. I went to S&W a number of times while here for undergrad several years ago…read moreand wasn't terribly impressed, and things are about the same as they've always been. Demi-professionalism everywhere, frequently resorting to treating the symptoms of things instead of searching out and healing the root cause, and just a general sense of lackluster service and care. However, I did find a GP here I think I like. Dr. Anne Marie Eschberger was professional, efficient, smart, and just engaged enough to keep up a conversation and answer all my questions with patience, and just clinical enough so when it came time to do some otherwise embarrassing exams, I didn't feel awkward. Perfect. She earns 4-5 stars from me, honestly, but as usual, my overall experience at S&W ranged from "meh" to quietly laughing to myself as I witnessed some barely professional behavior from nurses and general staff. St. Joseph's staff tends to be a lot warmer and more efficient, so I usually prefer to go there, but I think I'll keep coming to Dr. Eschberger as my GP.

I have never been disrespected so badly at a doctor's office before my experience today at this…read moreoffice. I had an appointment with Dr. Rick Seabolt and his nurse, Jamie (front desk told me that was her name) for hip stiffness. The front desk ladies were very nice when I checked in for my appointment. When Jamie came and got me to take me back she immediately said we'll take x-rays of my hips, and I was confused as to why we would jump to x-rays when I hadn't talked to her or the clinician as to why I was there. She said that was how they normally did things, and I continued asking questions because I was simply confused at what the cost would be and why x-rays were indicated. She was off-put by my questions, said I could talk to the doctor first, and put me in an exam room and left the door open. She walks off to a desk nearby next to a 2nd woman and proceeds to mock me in a cruel tone with rude gestures by saying "I refuse to take x-rays without speaking to the doctor first". I was so shocked in seeing them continue to talk horribly about me, they then both turn to look at me, see that I just saw that whole interaction, and the 2nd woman approaches immediately justifying why they do x-rays first. I said ok I was just confused and concerned with what the extra cost would be for them, and this woman became increasingly more rude and aggressive in how she was talking to me and started to talk over me (sadly, I did not get her name to mention in this review). At the end of the conversation I said ok I'll take the x-rays now before seeing the doctor, feeling completely blindsided by this horrible interaction, then Jamie came back into the room to take my history. I was so incredibly dumbfounded that this just happened and I told her I do not appreciate the aggressiveness and rudeness that just occurred. She brushed it off and left me to wait for the doctor. Dr. Seabolt was very nice and we had a brief conversation why I was there and what value x-rays would do for my visit. I mentioned to him I was confused about taking x-rays first, but did not tell him the rude interaction that just occurred. After the x-rays he gave me suggestions for 2 stretches for my hips and then I left. Overall, I will not be going back to this office. Horrible, horrible experience.

I have never had an experience -- whether with medicine, a restaurant, a haircut, or even a dog…read morewalking service -- so substandard that I've felt compelled to write a review. I grew up and spent nearly two decades in the B/CS area and have had almost uniformly positive healthcare experiences -- until my visit to this facility. If you're searching for an orthopedist, I strongly urge you to research other options or consider driving to Houston or Austin. It would be well worth a 2+ hour drive to avoid the experience I had. I injured my knee while skiing and had seen both an urgent care provider and my PCP -- both of whom provided more helpful and, most importantly, compassionate care. I saw Dr. Laura Marsh on March 6. After initial intake with a nurse, I was seen by a resident who performed standard knee exams (e.g., Lachman, anterior drawer) and used an ultrasound to confirm effusion. He recommended an MRI. I waited about 20 more minutes before Dr. Marsh arrived. She spent -- and I checked -- no more than four minutes with me. Her rushed, impersonal approach made me feel like my injury wasn't worth much attention. She confirmed I needed an MRI but gave little guidance on how to care for my knee (e.g., icing, NSAIDs, weight-bearing, physical therapy) and left before I could raise questions about my travel schedule and other concerns. I got an MRI the following Monday and was informed when I called -- I believe by a receptionist, since the nurse was unavailable -- that I had torn my ACL. I received no additional guidance on next steps or how to manage the injury, beyond needing to now see an ortho surgeon. The MRI report itself lacked detail, and I had many follow-up questions. I saw several other providers and a PT (outside this facility), who all told me that the report was lacking in detail. When a nurse called me later that day to give me the results of the report (since I couldn't reach her earlier in the day), I told her my questions and she said she would relay them to Dr. Marsh -- but I never heard from the doctor directly. Later that week, another nurse called to say Dr. Marsh had reviewed the MRI. Again, I had questions that the nurse couldn't answer and would have to forward to Dr. Marsh. I don't understand why Dr. Marsh couldn't have taken five minutes to speak with me at any point throughout this process. Instead, I was forwarded to the clinical director, who eventually answered many of my questions but downplayed my concerns, saying Dr. Marsh "spends the most time with patients." This person also promised to send me a knee care guide (which I have yet to receive). Not every staff member created a poor experience -- the resident, the nurse I saw before the resident, and the MRI tech were all wonderful. But my experience with Dr. Marsh made this unnecessarily difficult. This was my first serious medical incident, and it was made worse by the poor care I received. I'm fortunate to have good insurance and that ACL injuries have many online resources -- but if you were dealing with a more complex or serious condition, I can't imagine how difficult this facility would make things for you. I strongly recommend avoiding this facility -- especially Dr. Marsh. The lack of communication, follow-through, and empathy is simply not worth your time.
