Half decent scenic route. 4/10 in terms of difficulty-…read moretrail is pretty good workout for uphill and downhill 2/10 for trail management. The trails at certain points were extremely overgrown and poorly marked. Lucky there is cell reception and I could use it to navigate correctly. But certain areas are way too overgrown resulting prime tick habitats to the point where certain grass areas I can physically SEE ticks sitting on grass overlapping the trail.

" But what this means to you and me is that its just a fantastic; eerie; unearthly natural environment to go seek out and hike in. Of especial interest to horticulturalists and wildlife biologists; students; geologists, arborists, sylviculturalists, ecologists--sure. It is all that. But just in general --a fun and free place to roam around if you're simply an outdoors enthusiast. There is no one here; its deserted; and filled with all sorts of strange trees, shrubs, flowers, grasses, and lichens. You can really get your nature on; a really 1-on-1 experience.

I visited recently and…read morewas blown away by how many bald eagles I saw -- easily dozens, perched in trees, soaring overhead, and swooping down to catch fish right below the dam. It was like an infestation of bald eagles. It was awesome. I've never seen that many in my life. It's one of the few places on the East Coast where you can see that kind of action up close. There's a great viewing area with plenty of space for tripods and cameras, and you'll often find a mix of professional photographers and families just taking in the show. The Susquehanna River below the dam is powerful and beautiful, especially when the turbines are running -- that's when the eagles really come out to hunt. Parking is free, but get there early. It can fill up quick during eagle season. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Bring binoculars, a camera with a zoom lens, and a warm jacket if you visit in fall or winter -- the eagles are most active then. Overall, Conowingo Dam is one of Maryland's true wildlife treasures. Whether you're a bird enthusiast, nature lover, or just looking for something awe-inspiring to do outdoors, this spot delivers every time.

We didn't see a lot of men catching fish, but we saw lots of fishermen. The high point of the visit was watching the cormorants go deep into the river, sometimes popping up 20 seconds later, with little fish in their beaks. They actually had better luck than the fishermen. SUCK IT BOYS! The park was well done and a pleasant little visit.

There's always a bowl in the park and there is a local water pump to fill it in case you didn't bring water for your dog. There are two sides, small dog side and large dog side. Unfortunately, when you drive by you see a lot of large dogs in the small dog area, but most people will move their dogs over to the large dog area if you walk up with a small dog. It's not very busy so most times you get there there's no one there but sometimes there are a few other dogs to play with. I have met several nice people there and being new to the area. They were all very welcoming. The rules require your dog to be up-to-date on vaccines, friendly, and that you pick up after your pet. They provide bags and trash cans. I have heard a few people say that some people bring unfriendly dogs and they have been warned and that's where a lot of people will not come back because of bad experiences. Luckily, I live very close and I can check it out before I take my dog there. The gravel parking lot is plentiful and there is a small trail that leads down to the water that is accessible next to the dog park. 95% of people pick up after their pets there's the occasional people who don't but usually someone will clean it up when they get there before they let their dogs loose. I feel like some of the aggressive dogs are being brought there just to run out and play ball and they mostly leave when you get there. My little neutered male pug loves to run around and pee everywhere to mark over all the other dog smells. I find it safer than walking my dog around the neighborhood with cars coming in and out. I enjoy this park very much and the people so far that I've met.
