Nottingdale cafe is a great little find. A slightly curious one too, given that it's right next to the huge TalkTalk and Monsoon offices and so doesn't lack for competition from their canteens. But clearly, in this case, that competition is a good thing because the food here is cheap and good quality. My mixed salad comprised salmon steak, grilled courgette, bulghur wheat, cheese, hummus, tomato and green leaf for £3.50. They sell other food to go too, including sandwiches and very competitively priced jacket potatoes and toppings for £2.65 - wow.
Their Illy-based coffee is okay. Like all the coffee offerings in the area it's far from spectacular, but it's certainly drinkable and they deserve credit for pricing it honestly, at £2, rather than be tempted to go higher than that in line with prices charged by classier joints.
As I understand it Nottingdale Cafe has changed slightly in recent months, switching from a restaurant to a less ambitious operation more geared to takeaway. It also now shares its kitchen with a lunch delivery company, Deliverance, whose chefs were energetically whipping up meals for delivery when I was there. Nevertheless, the end product at Nottingdale Cafe is very good, probably the best cafe open to the public in the area. It's a shame that its opening hours are so limited (9am to 3pm on weekdays only). read more
