My experience at Nothing Bundt Cakes was unacceptable and deeply disturbing. Last Saturday, I went to pick up a cake I had already paid for online for my daughter's 2nd birthday. I walked in, politely gave my name, and stated I was there to pick up my order. I am an African American man. Instead of being treated like a customer, the older woman at the front counter immediately asked me, "DoorDash or UberEats?" I was confused and informed her that I was a paying customer. Moments later, two other customers entered, provided their names, and picked up their orders without being asked whether they were delivery drivers. They were not African American. The difference in treatment was clear and humiliating. This was racial profiling. What should have been a joyful moment for my family became uncomfortable and upsetting. I placed an order for pickup on Saturday. I received a call at 2:53 pm that the store was closing at 4 pm and they didn't want me to miss picking up my cake. I told her I was eating and that it would be right at 4 when I got there. She got in front of me on the way out the door to hold it open so she could lock it. I understand being ready to get out the door and the weather has been crap, but she was getting to close 3 hours early so if she had to hang out 1 or 2 minutes after closing it wasn't going to kill her. The cake is moist and fluffy (not like the dry crumbly bundt cakes that used to come to my mind). A dozen bundtinis is around $16 (they're slightly smaller than a cupcake), while the bundtlets are around $4 (small cake that serves 2).
