I have a strange fear of lawyers. They remind me of court cases, hearings and fights between siblings who are after their inheritance. And there is something about them that screams, "I know the law! This is serious business, kid." Yet when you're desperate and need legal documents notarized, you find yourself going to a lawyer.
I knocked on the gate (the business is in a house) and an old man opened it for me. Oh, he's the lawyer. Before he asked to see the papers that I brought for him to review and sign, he offered me coffee and juice and some cookies. I guess he did that to put me at ease. He got himself some coffee then said, "What's the problem?"
He was just supposed to sign the papers, but he also gave me free legal advice. The next time I went back with more papers to sign, he remembered my first visit and asked if all was well.
Forgot to add, each visit took me less than twenty-five minutes. That includes the snack, him signing the documents and the good advice he gives. read more
